@@kindallnight1615 Genocide comes from Greek and it means "total annihilation of a nation". It's not a new concept at all. You can find the practice even in the Bible e.g. in the Book of Esther where the stake was the extermination of all the Jews in the Persian Empire. Historically, Qianlong knew very well what he was doing when he killed off entire nations (e.g. the Dzungars). His 2nd wife, Empress Nara (aka Ruyi) was a devout Buddhist who eventually even wanted to become a nun and who was respected by the ministers even in death. It's very likely that due to her character and religious beliefs, she didnt approve of his killings or promiscuous ways. Hence why she chose to relinquish her Empress title by cutting her hair.

Yup. So ultimately, she did succeed in her goal in increasing her family's standing. But if I'm remembering correctly, the empress Dowager even makes commentary later on but it's a shame that it is Yan Wan's son that becomes Emperor and not Hailan's son/Ruyi's foster son. Simply because he had been raised so well and having these two women occupy the two seats that Ruyi's aunt and the Empress Dowager were originally supposed to share at the beginning of the show would have been amazing because of the quality of both women. It's even more ironic because the emperor made sure to punish Jia and make sure that none of her sons could become emperor after he uncovered that she was scheming with his death in mind. For some unknown reason, unless yan Wan's son was the only one left alive, the emperor did not do the same for her
Finally! Some good subtitles that makes sense. No mentioning forehead as mother lol this is perhaps one of the most satisfying moments in the series. Seeing ALL Wei Yanwan's crimes exposed. It's been a long time, too many lives lost and blood spilled but so satisfying to see justice served. This is one of the few moments in time where watching someone writhing to death is so good. I always felt a bit bad for Ling before she went FUBAR and started genociding every kid in the palace. She was a pretty maid that suffered many abuses and shitty treatments. She learned her cunning and cruelty from the Emperor, Empress Dowager, Jia, and Jin Zhong. It’s actually no surprise TO ME that she became who she did. I’m not excusing her actions, but she didn’t need to turn out this way.
True, but she’s also always been this way, just not to this extent. She’s been manipulative ever since the beginning, like when she dropped Ling Yunche because he was the lowest rank of palace guards, then immediately wanted him back as soon as he was promoted and she saw she could use him.

And to be fair, they are right. Even Ruyi admits it. Because of how serious the competition is in the Harem and how quickly the women each find out that lives are constantly at stake, including their own, it makes you do things that you would not normally consider. Ruyi had to learn to act the way that she did and she admits it to the emperor, that it is not the case that she would never scheme, it is the case that she would not scheme against anyone who did not cause her harm. It was why the empress Dowager was impressed that she chose to willingly poison herself and her maid with arsenic for the sake of getting out of the cold palace. It is not necessarily the case that the women deliberately Force each other to act this way, it is the fact that not being willing to go to extreme lengths to protect yourself and sometimes to further your own goals will result in you having a very painful life

Yei wen was spitting facts tho. He did raise her and turn blind eyes when he knew what was going on in his harem. All the loses if Royal children he had a invisible hand in each one.

😡 Ruyi tried numerous times to tell him what this evil vicious, and deadly woman did... but as usual he did not believe her and looked down upon her as malicious.
When you go back and watch the episodes, you see so many times she could have been stopped.
He didn't want to stop her, he was constantly using her to antagonize and act petty towards Ruyi. He said so himself on the boat when him and Ruyi were arguing on the boat that he rewards her(Consort Ling)because she allows him to be free (do stupid stuff ) and she encourages it which means she pandas to his Ego.
Hailan is a badass queen. She’s more ruthless than Ruyi (Ruyi can be too softhearted at times) and she’s much more intelligent and politically savvy than the other consorts/concubines, including Wei Yanwan.
It's more than that than 15 like some of them she really did damage they all did damage to the people that they killed but the ones that did die before this and they on the way they pay the price for what they did no comma goes Unturned people need to know this when you do wrong you pay a price for it just like anything on this Earth there's a price to pay for everything when you do evil

He got played and lost the love of his life.
Mey is right, though. The most loyal person was the most punished. Sad. But great acting, the actors made us feel the pain of their character's.
@@filipaneto6876 But that is how he always was. The more you loved him, the less he trusted you. The first Empress loved him, and was jealous of Ruyi because the Emperor loved her. He didn't love the first Empress, yet rug-swept all her evil deeds, although he knew what she had done. The Han princess hated him; he doted on her. Ruyi loved him sincerely, he put her through Hell and back. Yet, when she cut her hair, he had respect for her. Then he was the one who loved and she was indifferent.
I think of all the c drama villain gets karma moments I've watched so far.. this still just might be my all time favorite. I mean Ling is someone taking a consistent L for about 30 minutes, that banner scene alone was just everything to me. Ruyi you did THAT sis. Justice finally was served!
Wallace Huo’s acting here is impeccable! Alongside with Chun Li and Janine Chang!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Whether or not Ruyi loved the emperor truly, the fact she tried her best to rule the court while her husband was a prick shows that, at least in this story's case, she was trying her best to be fair and just for those that need healing and those that needed to be punished. This was her last act as 'Empress'. To punish the woman that wrong her and to punish the emperor that nearly used and almost emotionally abused her.
the actress did a great job since everyone hate her character, kudos 👏
We also gotta give props to the script writers, they're the ones who also planned the lines
@@raindropstarrock41 agree. it was a great drama
Like I said on my comment, she surpassed Cersei and Jeoffrey of The Game of Thrones as the most hated character. :D

@@margaritanoir to be fair genocide was a new concept in the world so his views were way different than yours or mine.
The most dangerous human being is one who believes her lies.
The emperor.. he still name her son emperor and her empress post- humously. Like what the -k??!??? Just wrong.. like giving her everything she wanted. Success. I don’t get that. This bastard.

Best punishement ever and she deserved everything. F... bitch, she was so ruthless and awful.
I couldn't agree more
It was not enough; she deserve so much pain, so much suffering and torture for every single life she took...... well, am not satisfied really. The only thing that satisfies me is her words to the damn emperor about Ruyi
All because of the emperor he did some of them killings too she didn't do a lot of it by herself Queen Mother some of the other women they all had a hand and all of this she just ended up getting the Buddy and of everything
Ruyi, Hailan and Rongpei are my favorite characters in this series. They are such beautiful and intelligent women. Don’t mess with Hailan!!!
I am really interested in the woman who is the emperor's chief investigator, carrying out torture and administering punishment. It seems a very responsible and important position and it is interesting that a woman holds it.
@Vico SDL No, she meant that elderly woman Yuhu who used to investigate crimes: she sorted out circumstancee of the death of the 1st Impress, she reported Cold Palace news to the Imperor (where Ruyi was imprisoned), and now she accompanied Consort Ling. Interesting position for the woman🤔- could it be real in life then?
I suggest a series a lot more interesting , "Crime In The Forbidden City" or something, with this woman as the lead.
@@dirgniflesuoh7950 Is your idea based on a book, and is it written in English so I could read it?

@@dirgniflesuoh7950 I completely agree with you! I would definitely read and or watch such a story. Good idea! I think the elements that draw me to this drama are the subtleties and nuances ---- things unsaid, as well as things that are said. It shows a culture I am not familiar with and that intrigues me. It also doesn't hurt that the production is so good. The set design, costumes, makeup and hair (I would really like to see the process of doing those elaborate hair styles), the medicine, and of course the good acting.
He was one of the reasons why the finances for the next Emperor was in bad shape. Officials were stealing money and he did not pay attention. When Yongyuan was able to charge the official and make him commit suicide.
This part was so sad. Poor Ruyi. The emperor should have known how much she loved him and her true character. He should have done better by her.
The irony is it was her son who became the next emperor. He placed the 15th prince name inside the box.
For some unknown reason, unless yan Wan's son was the only one left alive, the emperor did not do the same for her
That kick sound effect was the most satisfying music I've ever heard lol
Her character was really well written and the actress who played here is superb.
PS. What's with the clan name Wei? In most chinese novels I read and series I watch, most villains/antagonists are named under the family Wei. lol
Probably because there was a historical villian that really had the "Wei" surname 😂 just a guess haha
Yeah what was with that forehead thing?
In Qing Dynasty, royals usually call their mother as "額娘", where the word "額"means "forehead". I think it's mistake in translation😂

The Dowager Empress's clapbacks to Yanwan are epic. I'm so glad to hear they were translated well.
In one she was right: as an Emperor he lacked sincerity in his relationship with harem even with Ruyi he claimed he loved so much. He got no heart and no sincerity towards anyone.

Til the end, she still blamed everyone else except herself... lol
