I started out on this cam back in 2011. It was the most affordable video DSLR. Updated to a D7000 in 2012 with money I won from a film contest (that I participated in with the D3100). I got a custom image profile for the D7000 to get raw(ish) footage. Things have come a looong way!

It's such a nice camera, all my cinematic videos has been recorded with the D3100. I always use ISO on 800, the camera catches more details and the lightening and darkness level is always balanced.
How did you convert MOV files to mp4 for editing?
@@mintyjun I don’t convert them, I use the MOV files for editing in Premiere, just render the whole done project to H.264 MP4 so I can get the best compression quality.

thanks for posting this! I found it helpful but when I tried to match your settings it doesn't allow me to and says "this option is not available with current settings" , any advice? I can't change: White Balance, ISO Sensitivity settings, AF-area mode/Live view, Metering. Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to offer.

hope you find this, but what was the setting you were shooting with on the top circle dial? did you just keep it on FUll AUTO?
I ask because when i try ti adjust the ISO manually the exposure never changes, so i cant shoot in manual mode.

With this camera there is no way to input sound internally correct? (mic input) I want to record my keyboard playing but silent in my room day or night.

I bought a fairly inexpensive mic from Amazon and it works well to improve the sound quality of this camera:)

What about the 4Gb limit capture? I heard u can max record 10 Mins because of that. Is there a way to record more than 10 mins?

Thanks for making me sure no shutter or aperture is possible to adjust on d3100, however. I am not conviced if changing ISO do something. Only adjusting compenstation takes an effect.
where is setting for video recording duration? i have change to 64gb card but still 10 minutes. any different settings?

There is no microphone input on this camera.
@@FoxTailWhipz For sure, for sure no way that you've discovered suddenly? lol. Ugh, I tried doing the audio cable with my Yeti microphone but it didn't register. While the Nikon's microphone isn't that bad, I wish external worked!
I just another camera without a mic jack and the guy plugged in a micro usb to microphone adapter. I'd suggest you get the adapter and try it out for yourself
