    Super helpful.
I have an Ampeg 50 watt combo reissue. Not seeing Ampeg-specific videos, so I’m learning what I can.
    Thank you for sharing!

I was under the impression that we should not be touching the tubes with our bear hand, the oils could cause issues on the glass.

I heard that too. What you don’t see is me washing my hands. Wearing latex to replace them sucks when they are warm. You also can’t really feel the tubes with gloves on.

New sub...great stuff! I just got a hot rod deluxe...one tube is red plating and smells like it's cooking lol....sounds distorted at low volume. If I replace the tubes do I need to bias? Change caps?

Will the power transformer be able to handle KT66 tubes?

Pretty sure those tubes are rated for 30 watt … so it would be about 43 mA per tube for 70%.
    30/488 * 0.7 * 1000 = 43 mA

How do you check it if it is self bias

Excellent demonstration, but drop the background music as it is very distracting... cheers.

I bought a brand new Deville in 96. From day one that amp was worthless. First, every time I switched channels, either via foot pedal or by hand, there was a loud, and I mean LOUD pop, regardless of the volume level. I knew zero about amps or electronics at the time and it was supposedly under 'warranty.' Nobody could, or would fix it. Then the jacks both failed/got crackly and cut out at the same time, again, no fix. finally the tubes went out and I decided it wasn't worth even buying new ones. I bought a Blackstar and have never been happier. So disgusted with Fender through the five years they gave me the run around and finally told me tough, your warranty is up! I got a lemon and they did everything they could to avoid making it right. Never again will I purchase anything with that name on it.

Oh man. Sorry to hear that. I had the same problem. Which is why I got into fixing amps. I always had to fix my fender amp. Eventually I started to love them because they are easy to fix compared to anything new. I love Blackstars. I worked on a few of those too. Usually it was because the owners never replaced tubes and then it blew out something when the tubes shorted.

noob question here Robert, do i have to re-balance the bias if i detach the tubes from the amp for shipping purposes or say for a long haul? cheers

As long as you put them back in the same slot you took them out of, you are ok. Technically, you can mis match, but I feel the tone changes a bit because since they are used they slowly become off balance if that makes sense.
