Just browsing in a cd store many years ago. I like Rossini and his magnificent mezzo-sopranos and contraltos. He really understood the depth of their power. I saw the cd :: _Ewa Podles. Rossini Arias for Mezzo-soprano._ [ NAXOS ] I never heard of her, but it was Rossini and a mezzo-soprano ... so I took a chance & purchased it. When I got home and heard her voice, I imagined the wonderful and powerful music Handel, Vivaldi and Rossini would have composed, even greater arias. I never really appreciated this aria she sings here ... I never heard her sing it until tonight (August 12, 2024). It is painfully sad and ironic ... _Remember Me !_ I finally get the message of this heartbreaking music. (She will never be forgotten.) I discovered Ewa Podles about 12 years ago when I started music school and I remember there was a before and an after. It completely changed my perception of music. A unique voice whose intensity could bring me to tears, just with a single note. Sadness

Very fortunate to have seen her in recital and on the opera stage. Regarding the latter, I saw her sing the title role of Handel's "Giulio Cesare". She was outstanding!

I thought maybe this one was one the reasons that caused her to... be passed away. He was 17 older than her and had lived a very long life. They used to perform together since 80s... It's very hard to lose a spouse after so many years together especially when you're old... I think Ewa just couldn't live all alone so...
