The HTX-10 uses a different CPU chip to the 257/485 radios and can not be opened up for 11mtrs. Radio shack had the radios made this way so as to stop people using them on 26-28Mhz as it broke FCC rules, the older radio like the HTX-10 can be made to work on 11mtrs and this got Radio shack into trouble with the FCC so they made sure it could not be done with the HTX-10.

Nice radio the AE485! You'll have to give mine a tune up one of these days.
