      He explains things as if they were elemental, just for the joy of it, not paying too much importance to himself. The mind of a curious child still lived inside the old man.

      Not to cast aspersions on the man at all--he's a great man, a hero of mine, and yes, certainly, is exceptionally well spoken and can present complex ideas elegantly and simply. But his posture here isn't one of humility. Rather, its the studied and deliberate manner in which elite, right, nobles (like himself) talk with the common folk like us. They are careful not to hint at the vast difference in social rank which exists between them and us, nor at how much more wealthy they are than we are, etc etc. In the case of de Broglie, he is also careful not to hint at the vast intellectual distance between him and us :-).

    • @alexisp910
      @alexisp910 3 роки тому +1

      @@randyhelzerman fully agree. I am French and can tell that from all aspect (origins, upbringing, education) he is part of the French nobility (for him both from the ancient and the new). There is not really humility in the way he expresses himself. Only a disdain for showing off which is precisely what old nobles hate from newcomers. He is fully aware of who he is that is a genius

    For non French speaking viewers : the quality of language spoken by Monsieur de Broglie is impressive. When you hear people from this generation, you have really the impression that they read a text when they speak. Ok, I 'm aware that we have here a person belonging to the intellectual and social elite of his time, but still when you compare a speech by a current polician nowadays with recodings of politicians of the 30 's or50'S, the difference is strinking... and cruel.

    • @rozanoff6175

      @drclavus. It comes from it’s old Italian origins (Piémont), where the « g » is not pronounced (ex. : Modi(g)liani, great Italian painter).

      The original name was di Broglia, n they had a fiefdom in Broglie, Normandy, which is pronounced bruglee. The French spelling is de Breuil. Also, the way the family name is pronounced is not close to the Italian.

      Basically he says that he's standing on the shoulders of giants (mainly Einstein for the photoelectric effect and special relativity). Most interesting part (9:41) when he says that he agrees with Einstein and Schrodinger on the EPR argument: quantum mechanic needs to be refunded where probabilities should not play such a central role. Odd enough he doesn't mention John Bell's theorem (1964) that eventually proved EPR wrong when Alain Aspect conducted an experiment in 1982.

      He also supported the photon as having mass, so did Planck, Einstein, and Schrodinger, which it is, n means that there is no expanding Universe (there can't be anyways), n it supports the tired light model, which is the right one. Most of physics is wrong, n many eminent and respected scientists are saying just that.

      Language learning is counter-intuitive just like physics. I once tried to teach a Frenchman to say a simple common English word. After many many tries there was no success. Same for me in with some French words. If someone could work out how to "r'e-master" the hearing-vocal connection for everyone as an adult, it would be an achievement on the level of explaining consciousness once and for all.

      @@SubTroppo Well, actually, even french students can pronounce "de Broglie" wrong as the pronouciation is not at all normal for french. You would pronounce it like "brogglee" according to the french language rules. But for historical reasons this family name is pronounced in a very unexpected way from a french perspective. So it is not about the difficulty to reproduce a foreign pronounciation correctly, it is something that no one can get right until being told how it is pronounced.

    Louis de Broglie a fait une percée très significative avec son explication soutenant l'existence d’énergies électroniques quantifiées, appliquant une dualité onde-corpuscule de la matière. L'électron se déplace sous forme d'onde et ne peut exister que sous forme d'onde stationnaire à des énergies discrètes spécifiques. Une onde stationnaire est une onde qui oscille dans le temps mais dont l'amplitude maximale ne se déplace pas dans l'espace.
    L'électron ne peut absorber que la quantité exacte d'énergie qui lui permettra de passer d'une onde stationnaire à une autre.
    Dans le cas où l'électron absorbe une certaine quantité d'énergie qui n'est pas suffisante pour l'amener à une onde stationnaire plus élevée, l'électron n'atteindra pas d'exister en phase car il y aura une interférence.
    Il se débarrasse de l'excès d'énergie et revient à une onde stationnaire avec un nombre d'onde discret inférieur.
    L'électron ne peut exister qu'à des énergies qui lui permettent d'exister en tant qu'onde stationnaire. Les énergies des électrons sont quantifiées pour satisfaire les données spectrales :
    λₑ = h/p

      Vraiment ? J'ai du mal à imaginer des personnes s'exprimant aussi bien de nos jours. Le vocabulaire que l'on utilise de nos jours est beaucoup moins riche et on parle de manière plus concise et moins soutenue. En 13 minutes de vidéo ils ont dû écorcher un seul mot à eux 2. De nos jours on en écorche 1 sur 5. (pour ce qui est d'une discussion ou d'une interview)

      @ Bien sûr, je ne parle pas de la diction, mais du vocabulaire, après effectivement ça a plus de 60 ans, donc on ne parle plus exactement pareil. Il faut bien se rappeler qu'il était compte, je pense que même aujourd'hui, un compte aura un vocabulaire au moins un peu plus soutenu que les autres.

    Unless you were already speaking French...yes, we finally know how to pronounce “de Broglie”. Lol I was in middle school when I learned about him, not knowing how to pronounce his last name until my freshman year of High School, where I took French 1 and did a report on De Broglie in that class. Glad I had this video to use for my presentation, if I hadn’t, I’d probably have to write a lot more about his work than would have been needed or chose another French Scientist, Paul Langevin preferably. Thank God! Lmao

      You know he is from an Italian noble family that arrived in France in the 17th century.
      The pronoun citation of his name is based on Italian not French ...

    • @Lechatbleu-dd1wp
      @Lechatbleu-dd1wp 4 роки тому

      Yup...it’s just the way that people in Paris would pronounce his name. Thank you though 😊

      Milo Ortega what I actually meant (not sure how clear I was) is a Parisian like me would pronounce it bro-g-Li with a clear “o” and a “gu” sound like in “golf”.
      Actually most French speakers not knowing science or the guy in particular would mispronounced it as well.
      The most natural way to spell the sound of his name in French would actually be “de Breuil” like the endings of words like écureuil for example.
      That is still to this day the spelling that appears in my mind when I hear his name.
      Broglie is an Italian spelling while the “correct” way to pronounce his name with a “eu” sound instead of a “o” and a silent “g” is clearly inherited from it’s Italian pronunciation.
      But I realize it s a quite long comment and you well might have understood it the first time around ...

    • @NomenNominandum
      @NomenNominandum  2 роки тому +1

      I can only speculate how he meant that: If you describe the electron non-relativistically (by means of Schrödinger's wave equation) you miss out its spin. You therefore need a relativistic wave equation, which is the Dirac equation.

    L’un des plus grands physiciens du 20 ieme siècle . La notion d’onde « pilote « qui accompagne toute particule est une notion fondamentale ( aussi fondamentale que la vitesse de la lumière est une constante ). Elle permet de comprendre des phénomènes étranges comme les interférences faites avec des électrons ( l’électron passe par 1 seul trou , mais son onde passe par 2 trous ….) , et aussi la mise au point d’instruments très importants comme le microscope électronique .
    *** puis , les physiciens se sont lancés dans de pures théories mathématiques , qui marchent ! , mais avec 1 sens physique flou , qui disparaît derrière des avalanches de calculs obscurs …..
    *** De Broglie a critiqué cette façon de voir , il voulait reconstruire la mécanique quantique . Il est mort il y a 30 ans .
    J’ai lu que ses théories , écrites vers la fin de sa vie , n’ont toujours pas été déchiffrées - ou comprises ….??
    Un grand génie , de toute façon .

God no doubts has inspired him although you may smile at me but God is the greatest scientific of all times and he will always and eternally will stay the only one "the greatest for ever .!!!
