I have tried many of those items and they do not work but the sonic spikes make noise, so when you walk out they have a hard time hearing you walk and may still continue to burrow. The most productive is I usually press down the tunnels, wet them with a garden hose and press them down harder while wet. That will compress the tunnel, so when they move again, you can see the activity very easy with the soil breaking at the top. I pick a day and go out every half to an hour, when I see activity, I stop and look for signs of movement. If I see some, I will dig down quickly and toss the dirt aside looking for them. If they are patient and I don't see any movement for awhile in the fresh tunnel, I will place the garden hose into the tunnel and when they start to drown, they will come up. That's when I grab them. I literally have killed 5 moles in my yard over the past 11 days. There is one who is very patient and is driving me nuts currently but he will make a mistake soon.

@@Sctn187 Update: Five days ago after being out of town for a week, came back, found another burrow. I got him on Sunday. The very next morning found another burrow and got him Monday late afternoon.
I am actually up to a total of 12 for the season. It's almost become an obsession but my yard is actually filling back in where they have spent years plowing up. Saw another burrow this morning on the edge of my property. Will be keeping an eye on that one for sure. Don't want him getting into the network of existing tunnels under my yard.

Joseph how do you know which is the correct path to capture them since I have sporadic and about 12 holes? What times do you go out to catch these moles? Thanks Yasmin

@@yasmins.6068 My success this year has been time consuming. I have gone out at times and due to the length of the tunnels I can't tell where it might be. I'll wait, quietly watching and in fact will have a lawn chair nearby where I can sit. I don't want to be walking around as they seem very sensitive to footsteps.
If I see no activity for about 20 minutes, I will take a hose, fill the tunnel up with water and crush it down smooth. I will also spray on top to make the soil smooth making it easier to see movement. Since it was recent activity, (Less than 4 hours) I will continue to quietly walk out every 30 to 40 minutes and see if it has moved. I have actually had one sit quietly in the collapsed and muddy tunnel for almost three hours before it began to move again.
I have a flat blade shovel and will plunge it down at where the mole started and begin filling the tunnel with water. I also spray the surface because it will try and push it's nose near the surface to breathe without coming out and this will prevent it from getting air. As I continue to soak the tunnel I also flatten the soil and eventually you should see movement as it tries to get to a dry area and retunnel. At that point I just grab and toss it quickly, dispatching it with a couple of shovel hits.
This is not always successful as either I was late and the mole moved on or was able to find air somewhere but I will press the mud back down and continue to check throughout the day.
Also if you have plant in the path of a tunnel, it will often use the roots as a shelter. I have actually killed three of them by soaking the plant roots from different points, completely removing any air trapped by the root. They literally crawl up through the plants (liriope and Indian Hawthorn in my case) where I was able to quickly dispatch them.
Sorry the reply is long but if you need more info just let me know.
Note: It had been several weeks since I had seen any tunnels but last Monday evening I saw another and acted quickly, getting and dispatching it in under an hour.
      Good luck.

Digging them up is the only thing that works for me sometimes aided with a hosepipe. have caught about 20 over the last 2 and a half years.

Been killing moles for 40 years, and the scissor traps are by far the best traps. To sucessfully get rid of these things you must act immediately after seeing the initial run. If you do this you will almost always have the mole within 12 hours. If not caught within 24 hours it probably is not an active run and you need to move the trap. Once moles are established and breeding they are very difficult to get rid of. The traps I like best are the Easy mole traps sold by Tractor Supply.

These little demons have been destroying my yard for years. I planted flower bulbs for the first time ever this year. They are supposed to come up in the spring, but these moles have already made their way through my flower garden. Will the flowers still grow?? How do I stop them?

I have both the scissor trap and the spike one and I have caught three with the scissors and zero with the spike. The spike is not recommended

For the first time in 33 Summers here at my place, I've got a mole/vole issue!
      Wow, so destructive they're!
I've been following the runs & using a long double-spiked rod, hoping I'll get this critter.
Also, been using a flat hoe to collapse the tunnels and try to get these critters myself. I did flood the tunnels with water the first day I noticed this new issue, which actually seemed to work for a few days.
But they/he/she/it is back and really damaging my yard plus I'm sure, eating my Tulip bulbs!
So I will try the Casor oil thing and smoke bombs this weekend.
Will try to report back. (The 3rd thing I may try if they're not too expensive is the scissors spike/trap.)

I once went to a funeral, and they asked me to say a few words. I got up, cleared my throat, and said, "Tony was a stand-up guy... except when he was a mole. Turns out, snitches don’t get stitches- they get swimming lessons in concrete boots. Rest easy, Tony…"

Bought a vole trap and found I had moles. Got the cute thing by the foot and and to put him out 😔
Why couldn't he just go to the middle of the yard and not near my retaining wall 😭

The sonic spikes are useless. The chems to spray on the lawn to make the food taste bad are useless. I'm gonna have to go with the poison and/or the trap.
