Couple things 1. you don't need to leave a string on to test. You can tap the pickup screws/ lugs with a screw driver and it'll sound through an amp with a thud if it is working. 2. You have to have F spaced in the bridge position on Ibanez, but you can do either in the neck. F spaced lines up slightly better but both work. 3. Good on you for taking the dive and trying to learn how to DIY it. It's easy to mess up but almost everything you could mess up is fixable.
I am interested in the Dimarzio Titan or Illuminator pickups for my RGA42fm Gray. I had the Alpha and Omega pickups in my Misha Jackson previously, but was not happy with those.
How about the bridge on that thing? Can you put a better bridge on it? I don't like the bridge for some reason. Needs a cooler looking bridge like a Hipshot bridge.
Yeah standard hardtail bridge. You can get a hipshot version of the bridge. But if you want hat classic looking hipshot you will need to drill some new holes probably
Hey man! I have the same guitar and I had been contemplating on changing pickups for a couple of months, especially since I keep it in C standard. Your video made me consider the Titans, but I've found a set of SD Black Winter for a very good price and got those. I use the Neural DSP Plini plugin and the new pickups have made a massive difference. Still considering the Titans for my next build. Cheers!
Titans kinda blow... there's alot better pickups. Unless you exclusively play periphery.. i had em in 1 and took it out as they dont sound full, very thin and nasaly..
I have an old RG470 and want to change the picks with the Titans. I do have a center single coil pick up so I was wondering what would go good with the Titans?
I'm not sure man... I mean Dimarzio make heaps of sick single coils... Watch some demo's and reviews... And also go look at some wiring diagrams as well for that set up. All on the Dimarzio site 👍
Not sure. Comes down to preference.... You can really hear in the clean tone how they shine! I love them... My favourite sounding guitar... Great all round pickups
stock pickups are great! I have RGRT421 and I also have/had many Prestige RGs with different Dimarzzio's and SDuncans, and those stock pickups are no worse than those... they are more old school, like 80s, and they're not as hot as SD Nazgul, but I fell in love with them, and I will not change them at all! ps sound is way more shaped by an amp, and pickup is just icing on the cake, so it's better to have great amp, than to switch pickups expecting miracles.
You can get push/pull pot knobs... That will change the output of your pickup and give it a thinner single coil sound. It's explained in the video. But yeah do some research. A good way to make your guitar more versatile!
After about 2 years do you still like the pickups, or would you choose something else? Also at 12:30 it sounds a bit twangy if I'm putting it correctly. Is it because of your picking style or is it always like this at this particular position? Sorry for asking so much, I'm looking to upgrade the pickups too.
I had the titan.. and took it out... i felt ur face when you first hit it like the volume isnt all the way up.. its not that full sounding. It has like a great tone but it isnt full its thin
With the spacing of the pick ups, are they both f spaced? Like if I got two new pickups am I looking for both to be f spaced or is that just the bridge pickup? I have the same guitar, and thinking about some new pickups
You need F spaced for both positions on this guitar coz of the 43mm nut width. That's how ibanez japan do it in their signature and prestige models. It's even stated on the dimarzio FAQ.
Did you have issues with the pickup height itself? I have the locking trem version of this guitar and the Seymour Duncan pickup I tried to put in the bridge position was too tall and didn't allow for any height adjustment. Was that the reason for you using the stock foam and springs or did the Dimarzio pickups have shorter base/leg height?
@@desolatecold1019 There’s a few bands that tune like that, apparently BADGBE is a popular black metal tuning & I love doing it on my acoustic, which is the same tuning system but no lowered a whole step, & Periphery uses AGCFAD on The Bad Thing, Zyglorox, & some other songs
Hey man, respect from Pakistan! Thanks for the video, I'm planning to upgrade my RGA42FM as well next week. But plan on adding EMG 81/85 active pickups in it. Do you think that's possible with the battery compartment? Second question, how's the tuning stability on your model? I have to tune it again after every 2 songs when playing live. Any suggestions to fix that?
Hey sorry for the late reply. Hope you sorted out the tuning issue. And yeah EMG's are so easy to install with their DIY plug system. Done a couple of my guitars and loved it. Yeah Not sure about space for the battery? You might need to cut a new cavity for that? How did you go? And my guitar stays in tune pretty well?
Yeeah you can just check they have a standard space pickup for the neck and f space for the bridge. But check their specs...every company is different. You will have to consider room for the batteries also if it's an active set.
Ahh legend! Hope you're enjoying it. For the record I have more expensive guitars that could be considered 'better' but I always find myself playing this one. Love it's light weight and the titan pickups!
Yeah man do it! Great light guitar and the playability for the price is great...Make sure you play it with the stock pickups then with the Titan pickups so you can really here the difference! Will blow you away. Hope the video helped!
Stavage So I ended up putting white fender style knobs and a white switch tip. Then added Gotoh locking tuners with white pearloid buttons to it....and it looks awesome ! After changing the strings it came with to what I usually use,Ernie Ball hybrid 9’s the stock pickups sound pretty good !
What a nice video about DiMarzio Pickup Install and Comparison in which the install part was skipped.

Regarding #2, if its a 7 string Ibanez, you don't need F spaced.
I'm so glad that freddie mercury is alive and playing guitar...
Ayyoooo haha!

@@Stavage_Productions great minds think alike ay
Were the neck pickups F spaced? Or was it just the bridge that needed to be F spaced.
Nice Periphery riffs!

Why i think the titans are more muffled than oem?

It had great pickups before... this changed it slightly on more clarity. 10% more improvement in sound on speakers.

Just the bridge 👍

This is Drop C and Periphery tuning AGCFAD
That is bizarre. Never heard od that tuning style. 5 standard D tunings and q drop A

AFTER: spot on focus
