This was as fascinating as I expected. It was a great compliment to Dr Mike Isratel's video about Bryan's protocol. The marvelous thing is I seem to have a "Mediterranean lifestyle" as you, Dr Chris, outlined at the end. The only thing I did struggle with slightly is when you were discussing how societal interaction, family/friends etc, also suppliers. Unfortunately I don't have that. I am a loner and don't have a social circle of any kind. So that was slightly depressing lol but balanced out with my diet and daily moving that is a positive. Very interesting video and gave me a lot of food for thought
My grandfather, a forensic pathologist and county coroner, spent 50 years dealing with death. He never exercised except to walk around the house, hospital and autopsy rooms. He never took a supplement in his life. But he had many friends and relatives, and was the most cheerful person I ever knew. He never smoked or drank in his life. He didn't pay much attention to his diet, often ate at hospital cafeterias. He was never overweight. He died at 104 years old, never developed dementia or other serious diseases. Let's see if Johnson can beat that. I think the current emphasis on pills and gadgets is misplaced. Johnson say food and supplements are "dirty". What a strange, paranoid idea. If you shop right and/or garden your food supply will be "cleaner" than ever in history.
Sounds like a combination of a man with good genes and also a man who lived with a purpose - (I assume) he had a good job, a family and was likely happy and relaxed enough to enjoy life. Psychological wellbeing is really important.
He's cut his body fat ,which is admirable ,but he looks his age . You cannot stop yourself from dying ,it can't happen. It's a normal , natural process . Once that circadian rhythm stops that's it . When it will happen nobody knows.
Right! I'm all about health, but damn... This man going to live, how much longer? If it's only three more years, was it worth it? I can see if he adding like 30+ yrs to his lifespan.
what is "life" to one, might not appeal to the other... achieving better health and inner peace by giving up harmful little pleasures might be a good deal ...
I'm nowhere near the lifestyle of this guy but as I'm very very pale skin, umbrella is a game changer...when you have to get in and out of work in the middle of the day it's not healthy at all being in 9-10 uv index with no protection...it's not weird, it's life saving😅
excellent as always. topic and involved persons are cringe-prone, but you once again succeed in keeping the cynicism out and just looking at the facts. thank you very much for that! science ftw
For me it’s about the quality of life and the time I spent with my loved ones, not the quantity. I agree with many things he states. Sleep is extremely important, as well as exercising daily. However, 90%+ people couldn’t do this even if they wanted too. It would be way to limiting for people
I aapiceiste the work Bryan is doing on himself. But, the outcome of his experiment will ultimately result on the very thing he trying to avoid, death. I agree with the notion of taking care of your body inside out. I try to do that every day, with sleep, exercise, eating as healthy as posible. I don't smoke and my drinking is about half of a cup a week. But I also understand that all it takes is for some one else to look at there phone for 2 seconds while driving, to ruing my day while on my weekend bike ride. So I don't go overboard with the healthy stuff. Life is too short and it's just one. So I try to do the things I enjoy doing, and hope for the best outcome evry day.
I am proud to say that I've never had to change my mind about BJ like the major of people in the various comment sections claim they have. I actually liked the guy from day 1 and the more I follow his work the more I realise he's a genius, a visionary, a modern day philosopher, and a ridiculously likeable guy on top of that. Love the man!
31:45 I may be an outlier, but I have chronic insomnia my whole life and only typically get 4-6 hours of sleep, but when it comes to will power there is no one I have met that comes close to me. I have on several occasions noticed I had exceeded a weight limit threshold I had set, and immediutely started a week of weening my caloric intake to a diet and maintained that diet perfectly. I go to the gym, only delaying when I go if not recovered.
Yes perhaps Brian's personal drive to do this might be narcissistic in nature but he's combined it with scientific contributions and studies most which could not be done due to time/money. One day this might lead to the betterment of society.
"From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of steel. I aspired to the purity of the blessed Machine. For the Machine is Immortal."

All the haters in the comments. The dude is a multimillionaire and super fit. Let him do his thing. It's a noble goal and it certainly doesn't hurt anyone. If anything it is helping others. I wish him well and it makes me want to start lifting and going on a health kick again. I'm not in bad shape, but it's never good enough. What I find odd, amusing, and concerning are all the people who seem to be offended by this man's lifestyle. How dare someone try to better themselves! 😅
Is the cost even worth the benefit? I personally care more about quality of life than quantity of life to the extent where they don't overlap at least.
So I was not specifically Mormon growing up, but I did grow up in an evangelical Christian cult. And I can see how much of that experience when not deconstructed and healed from can show up in similar ways to how the man being discussed in the video has said he is using “science”. For many Christians in these kinds of groups the material the life itself is worthless compared to the sacred. These groups tend to focus on the emphasis of living forever in the after life or the eternity. So much of Christian faith is deeply rooted in a fear of dying. So to me it makes sense that after he leaves one of these groups, that the way he was trying to ignore death through religion no longer being there for him affected him so he found a new way to ignore death by being in denial about it entirely. It’s kinda sad honestly. He could be doing so much better if he had gone to a therapist.
All I want to say is that man look sicker and sicker the more he goes on with the "anti aging" program. Look at a photo of him from when he started, and one now. He looks like has a terminal illness, yet he's somehow healthier now than before?
He comes across as an obsessive madman to me. He would have to be so risk averse to avoid an accidental death and waste all his longevity work. It's not really a state of balance - even though he's always on about balance. I wouldn't want to prolong that state of being. You've got to let go of thinking you can control everything in order to live freely.
The kind of bank balance he has guarantees he can just focus on this stuff all the time and keep fit. I'm lucky to have enough for some cheap meals which, while they are not healthy, at least means I get to eat that day... He won't live forever, no one will, and we will all wind up being food for the plants, and the plants then feed the animals, and the CIRCLEEEEEEEEEE OF LIFEEEEEEEEEEEE!🎶
Bryan Johnson made it clear in the Dr. Mike interview that this is all stemming from his fear of death and his resources to make his attempt. Rather than throwing millions or billions at stopping his biological clock, a good therapist could talk him through his fear.
No you're completely incorrect about how you transcribe that to yourself. I don't know if you noticed a tattoo on his arm but that tattoo is significant because it tells you about what he knows. It's the people who haven't seen the other side who can make this judgment. The goal is to see if something works to live forever because in 30 years hypothetically there could be some advances in CRISPR that allow us to get there. Why not have a healthy brain so on that day potentially comes You can upload or have the best brain for longer. Why would you want to let it go? Really there's nothing wrong with the other side it's just that we were sent here and this is part of the experience.
@@tophatv2902 But what's the point if you don't actually enjoy your health? He could live to 200 and it would be the same. I'm not being negative, the guy is in for a rude awakening and I honestly kinda feel bad for him
@@FlashBang33 The interviews I've seen only talks about trying to extend life and optimizing health. It's kind of what we should all be doing except he has a superhuman focus on it. I feel like the hate he gets is due to being misunderstood.
I see potential mental health issues. Bryan Johnson is setting himself up for failure. Live healthy, but enjoy yourself. Don't worry about death. It will catch up to you indifferent what you do. Just live healthy, so you don't spend the last 30 years of your life dying. But the balance is not to obsess about it.
If people from the future were to reach back and talk to us, they wouldn't be complaining that we didn't create an immortality algorithm fast enough. That much, I guarantee.
i mean technically everything he does is literally posted online and not secretive at all. so anyone can see his research and continue it which is a lot more than many millionaires or even billionaires would do in this day and age.
Okay, regardless of the science behind what he's doing, I kind of love the fact that one of the products he sells is an extra virgin olive oil branded as Snake Oil. Cheeky bastard
Bryan johnson reminds me of Ras Al Ghul in Batman Beyond and Bruce Waynes clap back -> you haven't conquered death, you cower in fear of it. Do I want a healthy life, a healthier life - yes. Do I need to live forever? No. Forever is a long time and I don't need my descendants to be in competition for resources with their ancestor [me]. Death makes life sustainable in the long run.
How about getting a group of people of different ages and health status and getting them on this 'protocol' for a year. Then we will see if there is anything to this 'protocol'. A sample size of one is inconclusive.
"Aging slower than a ten year old" Well, like, of course? A ten year old hasn't even hit puberty yet. Of course they're aging faster than you they got a lot of growing to do still.
Having experienced the supernatural so that I am confident that God exists and therefore the afterlife exists I don't fear death. Obviously I haven't confirmed this by dying so as to be certain but I guess I am as certain as almost anyone can be. God hasn't entirely deprived me of the gift of having faith so don't think I can prove His existence to anyone but I can testify that I have witnessed what science tells us is supposed to be impossible. Of course that's just my testimony and like with anything you have not witnessed firsthand, like history for example, it will still require faith and a decision to trust and believe that I'm telling the truth or that I'm not crazy. Truth is everyone believes more things to be true than what they actually know for certain is true. But where would we be if we only ever believe what we have confirmed for ourselves? As Jesus said "blessed are those who believe without having seen".
Fan here. Death via senescence is like a never-ending trainwreck, and literally everyone has a ticket to ride. I personally think that he, and frankly everyone in this space, are grossly underestimating the complexity of the body. There are thousands of details of the body that we've overlooked, and thousands more that we don't even have the tools yet to be able to see. With so many unknowns, it's foolish to think we have a shot at escaping aging ourselves. But we have to start somewhere and work with what we have. I personally think we should be pouring our efforts into improving our capabilities to make observations before anything else, because nothing sets us back more than bad data. Still, his experiments are compelling.
That's for research. Trial and error costs a lot of time, knowledge, and manpower. All of that is money. Once you figure it out and condense everything into a pill, it's not going to be $2000000. Everyone knows diet and exercise is required for optimal health. If there's a pill that allows you to have all the benefits of a healthy diet and exercise, people will pay for it. His goal is something like that. Even if he doesn't reach it in his lifetime his research is meant to get there. Someone else would take over his work when he is gone.
That's not what he says at all. He says he is applying all these different techniques to see what works and what can be applied and accessible for the average person. Most of the things he does are very cheap to apply and can be replicated by anyone. If he showed some efficacy for a supplement leading to greater health and longevity that was affordable how can you be against that?
BMI is a good indicator of health for general population, while waist (2 inches above your belly button) to height ratio is a great indicator of health for individuals.
Listening to alot of these tech entrepreneurs talk often feels like listening to someone who's never read a philosophy book in their lives slowly discover the idea of existentialism. Like he's asking questions humanity has debated for centuries as if he doesn't know there's already hundreds of conversations answering them already. It's...strange, like he's clearly very smart but simultaneously has no idea what he's talking about.
Good info, except for diet. Hong Kong has among the longest lived people, and they eat the most fatty red meat, per capita. Red meat has everything we need for optimal health because it's the food humans evolved on. Saturated fat and cholesterol from animal products are not bad for our arteries, but are vital for healthy cell walls, hormore production, and longevity. The Blue Zone narrative is flawed in several ways.

most illnesses of both body and mind we have a certain risk of developing them due to our genetics, but the main drivers on which it will depends if we get them or not are linked to our life style: pollution, diet, physical activity, mental stimuli... of course someone has lost the genetic lottery and has very little if not any chance to avoid a certain illness - but for most of us is possible. you won't live for ever but the quality of life will improve. it's not such a big mystery what you need to do: clean diet (no "not whole" foods, e.g. no junk food, no sugar), very regular physical activity, walk as much as possible, cut down on social media for your mental health, if possible live somewhere clean. Good luck.
Yeah, one thing you pointed out. Is "live somewhere safe". That is a big factor that Bryan may or may not have express in his videos. He has wealth, and good for him he worked for it. But, the averige person does not have the means to use all the tools he uses. Let alone having to avoid sun light or even something as simple as sleeping more.

Well it's surely possible to stop aging. Some species do have immortality, at least one that I know of. Not something is "impossible"

Right! I'm all about health, but damn... This man going to live, how much longer? If it's only three more years, was it worth it? I can see if he adding like 30+ yrs to his lifespan.
@CursiveDragon to me, he seems happy. He already had a "life" before but did not enjoy it.
what is "life" to one, might not appeal to the other...
achieving better health and inner peace by giving up harmful little pleasures might be a good deal ...
Death doesn't wait after people. Everyone dies regardless of their lifes quality.
Will said!
There’s a method to his madness. However, there are more questions than answers. Thanks for making me aware of this “new age” approach.

I'm nowhere near the lifestyle of this guy but as I'm very very pale skin, umbrella is a game changer...when you have to get in and out of work in the middle of the day it's not healthy at all being in 9-10 uv index with no protection...it's not weird, it's life saving😅
excellent as always. topic and involved persons are cringe-prone, but you once again succeed in keeping the cynicism out and just looking at the facts. thank you very much for that! science ftw
Much appreciated!
He ain't trynna eliminate death itself. Just death caused by old age
I am a Acupuncturist and I wonder if he gets Acupuncture. Acupuncture can be a great asset when it comes to longevity
Not sure if that is part of his regime.
day 9 of being awake, always wondered what this sleep thing is people always seem to talk about , interesting video by the way
31:45 I may be an outlier, but I have chronic insomnia my whole life and only typically get 4-6 hours of sleep, but when it comes to will power there is no one I have met that comes close to me. I have on several occasions noticed I had exceeded a weight limit threshold I had set, and immediutely started a week of weening my caloric intake to a diet and maintained that diet perfectly. I go to the gym, only delaying when I go if not recovered.
Well done again, dr Chris 👏
Avoid the sun like a vampire!
Yeah, that’s what we Asians do.
Yes perhaps Brian's personal drive to do this might be narcissistic in nature but he's combined it with scientific contributions and studies most which could not be done due to time/money. One day this might lead to the betterment of society.
Is he the inspiration for Data in star treck?
"From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of steel. I aspired to the purity of the blessed Machine. Great video from scientific side and also very entertaining
Everyone needs an expiration date.
I recently thought that this guy kinda reminds me of Michael morbius from the 90s animated Spiderman! Now, he wants to be immortal, lol
Actually he reminds me of Data from Star Trek
@Chacarruna yeah he could pass for a vampire in a movie, too.
Is the cost even worth the benefit? I personally care more about quality of life than quantity of life to the extent where they don't overlap at least.
And how does he stop his telomeres from shortening?
telemeres extansioun chemicals they actaully exist lol
Why would i want to live longer? Ill take an aneurism at 60 over a care home at 100, tyvm.
Very informative. Why do we humans so fear our own mortality? Think I’ll have a cheeseburger!
It's simple. Just don't die.
The guy isnt even 50 yet.
Everyone is different but actually everyone is not THAT MUCH different. Most of us are the same.
Hey i didn't know that Will T was on his video. Anyway., HUGE fan of both of them and you my friend! ❤️
Bryan Johnson made it clear in the Dr. Mike interview that this is all stemming from his fear of death and his resources to make his attempt. Rather than throwing millions or billions at stopping his biological clock, a good therapist could talk him through his fear.
Imagine being on your death bed knowing you wasted your whole life trying to escape that moment

I never understood these types pf people. The tragic beauty of life is that eventually it ends.

Does anyone knows if he donates/funds more wide range research? Like on other people, new medicine or tech or new data or ect? Not just on him?
i mean technically everything he does is literally posted online and not secretive at all. so anyone can see his research and continue it which is a lot more than many millionaires or even billionaires would do in this day and age.
Worth researching yes for health, does it ever work for anyone who has ever tried it in history no.
How about getting a group of people of different ages and health status and getting them on this 'protocol' for a year. Then we will see if there is anything to this 'protocol'. A sample size of one is inconclusive.
What is his current job?
I think it can influence on longevity.
He sold his company Braintree for 300 million dollars. He no longer works.
I think it might be wiser to extend the life of the Earth living longer may have to take place on something like the ISS
he doesn't want to live forever, he just wants to look younger
Sleep. It's so important. Bryan has said that the most important factor in life longevity is sleep.
Every now & them you get some one who wants to defeat death. Now no one has ever succeeded.

"Aging slower than a ten year old"
Well, like, of course?
A ten year old hasn't even hit puberty yet. Of course they're aging faster than you they got a lot of growing to do still.
"It's standard company practice to have a synthetic on board."
Still, his experiments are compelling.
his face is uncanny valley
Ah yes, anyone can do what I do says the man spending $2000 000 a year to achieve immortality.
Hip to waist ratio is much better than either of those measurements
seems like the origin story of the BORG, lol. in reality, this would be great. Lets see where this goes.
Saturated fat and cholesterol from animal products are not bad for our arteries, but are vital for healthy cell walls, hormore production, and longevity.

most illnesses of both body and mind we have a certain risk of developing them due to our genetics, but the main drivers on which it will depends if we get them or not are linked to our life style: pollution, diet, physical activity, mental stimuli... of course someone has lost the genetic lottery and has very little if not any chance to avoid a certain illness - but for most of us is possible. you won't live for ever but the quality of life will improve. it's not such a big mystery what you need to do: clean diet (no "not whole" foods, e.g. no junk food, no sugar), very regular physical activity, walk as much as possible, cut down on social media for your mental health, if possible live somewhere clean.
Since most peaple have families and bills to pay. Some may need to work two jobs, exposing themself to a slew of harmful posibilities.
