I was recently in the market for these. I checked out the SENA 20S EVO and 30k as well. I chose the Scala Rider PackTalk Duo kit for 2 reasons: 1. Waterproof - There are a lot of complaints online about SENA units dying in the rain. No thanks. 2. Best sound quality with included speakers - Sure I can upgrade the speaker at extra cost but why bother. These sound pretty good.
I am very happy with the PackTalk. I use it daily for playing music while commuting. Always connects with my phone. Always connects the intercom when my wife is using hers. Still learning all the functions since they seem to have changed the buttons in the last update. Oh and I have rode through two big thunderstorm with it. It is verified waterproof for me. I would recommend it to anyone looking at these at this level of features.
Jeff Codling I'm new to all this but my question is will the PackTalk communicate with the Sena products as well or does everyone have to have the same brand device?
You can hook up to any BT coms unit so you can still talk to friends with Senna etc. Packtalk is complicated to use with other makes but REALLY simple to pair Packtalk to Packtalk.
Same. I see one or two bikes out per hour of riding I’d say. It’s a loner hobby for me. And most are Harley bros that are too cool for a hyper naked rider. Haha. Ah those macho nerds make me laugh.
I dunno, I've been quite happy with my $36 BT-S2. It connects to the others and you can intercom between 3 riders. I've only had it for 4 months, but it's been rock solid so far.
Listened and read almost all the comments. Think I watched all the videos on youtube. Bought the 30k from Sena. Should arrive this weekend. Friend and I went in on the 2pak so saved $$. Will do an honest and unbiased unbox, install, and testing of the unit. If its good we'll keep it and if it sucks we'll return it and get our $$ back.
If you bring in your own financing and want to compare alternate financing deals the dealership finds, make sure you notice the added hidden fee called "dealer finance fee." This might be anywhere from $200 to $2000 or more. Its normally listed out along side the sales price, taxes, licensing, stocking, "financing fee" etc.... if you end up using the financing you brought with you, make sure the financing fee is deleted. If you decide to use alternate financing discovered by the dealer, run the numbers and the final price after all loan payments are made. Does the finance fee eat up any savings you might see with a lower interest rate? Maybe you own free financing with the higher interest rate is a better or equal deal. If the deals are equal, ask the dealer to sweeten his offer with a couple of free services or accessories.
All the speakers kinda suck, I own Sena 20s and Cardo. I put UClear HD speakers in all my helmets. It has to have a speaker input though, the Sena 10C won’t work.
I find the same model has wildly different performance in the different helmets. Had Sena 10U in my Shoei Neotec (loud) and Klim Krios (barely audible), and a similar Sena SRL in my Neotec 2 (moderate). I like Sena hardware but their support is beyond useless so I've never gotten an answer as to why there is so much variation.
My wife and I are using 10S's and used SMH10's before that. The 10S sounds better and has better range, but was quirky when we first got them. Always dropping connections with my wife and trouble pairing with the Zumo. Working much better now. Musta done a firmware upgrade. I generally use Etymotic in ear speakers since my bike is very noisy at speed. The helmet speakers are OK, but I have to turn up the sound to injurious levels to hear at speed.
Beginner rider here and have a few questions: 1. I assume your companion can listen to the same music from your mobile phone on all 4 headsets introduced. If so, do they need the same headset device? Do you need to switch between modes to communicate on intercom? Will they also hear the navigation from Google maps or incoming phone calls? 2. Is there a headset where you just add an additional earphone/speaker for the pillion helmet so we can listen to same music and communicate with each other without switching modes?
To answer your first question, _some_ communicators offer music sharing, but even with this feature, music can only be shared from a rider to a passenger. Additionally, you cannot connect more than one communicator to a single phone (unless the phone has BT5.0 dual audio; see below). The rider's phone transmits audio to the rider's communicator, and then with audio sharing enabled, the rider's communicator retransmits the audio to the passenger communicator. Audio includes any audio streamed from the phone, e.g. music and Google maps navigation. Incoming phone calls operate on a different protocol, and phone call sharing is a separate feature for communicators (many allow it). Audio sharing does not work from rider to rider, as the distance is too far for the feature. Furthermore, the intercom feature interrupts the audio sharing feature, so music sharing will stop and be paused when an intercom conversation is initiated. To answer your second question, the answer is, unfortunately, no...UNLESS you have a newer phone with Bluetooth 5.0's dual audio feature as well as communicators with audio multitasking. With BT 5.0, you could pair two communicators to a single phone and skip the communicators' audio sharing. If those communicators have audio multitasking functionality, the communicators can stream music while simultaneously in an intercom conversation. Right now, the Samsung S8, Note 8, and S9 models offer dual audio. And for audio multitasking (aka parallel audio), look at the Cardo PackTalk, Cardo Freecom 4, Sena 30K, and Sena 20S EVO. Hope this helps clear up any confusion! -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/cardo-packtalk-bold-headset-duo-pack-2018 *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/cardo-freecom-4-plus-headset-duo-pack *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/sena-30k-bluetooth-headset-dual-pack *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/sena-20s-evo-bluetooth-headset-dual-pack
liked the helmet, the low to no profile of the controls makes it the best, hopefully someone will come up with a low profile "sticker" kind of controls in the future.
I have a sena cavalry half helmet and am very happy with its quality so will likely get a sena full face here shortly. Its clear and loud. I just wish sena offered a helmet with modular flip up.
Can you get a Bluetooth system that is not the same brand as your friend you ride with that / I guess the question is does it have to be the same brand to make them Connect?
Almost every BT unit out there from the major manufacturers has what is referred to as "Universal Pairing" or "Universal Intercom" modes which allow the unit to connect with a unit from another brand. This is usually only a single-conversation connection on very basic BT connections, but it is possible. If you are looking to really get the most of each units features and capabilities, you would want to stick with the same brand as your riding buddies. If you have any other questions or concerns, feel free to get in touch with our Gear Geeks as they ride with BT units everyday. Enjoy! - Pat
He mentioned being able to share music with another rider in the beginning but didn’t say which helmet can do it. I suppose I can just google it but I was looking forward to getting that info here.
All of the communicators featured can do so. The specific Bluetooth-integrated helmet featured is the Sena Momentum series. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/bluetooth-motorcycle-helmets
That was a lot of data to take in. So if its just me and my passenger which one is best? I am guessing they all do the basic stuff; rider/passenger coms, phone calls, GPS, music....
For just you and a passenger, I would go with the Freecom 2 Duo Pack. They're the least expensive option that still has Parallel Audio Streaming, meaning you can continue listening to music while holding an intercom conversation. With other communicators at this price point, your music is paused when holding an intercom conversation. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/cardo-freecom-2-headset-duo-pack
I'm still convinced that a normal walkie-talkie is the best solution, I ride all the time with different people and never manage to pair different type of BT headset, we always give up after 10 minutes of attempts. I've ordered the new Xiaomi S1 walkie-talkie that has BT integrated (for 40$ XD ) and I'm planning to pair it with a Cardo freecom 1, let's see if I can get a 3 miles range com with (virtually) infinite number of riders for less than 160$ ;)
Well maybe for the type of bike your using and your helmet type...but for sports bikes and really all motorcycles...its good to have both hands on the handle bars in case something happens...that way you can ride and turn or do whatever you want instead of trying to hold a walkie talkie with one hand i'm assuming...plus the bluetooth is open communication like a natural conversation...dont need to hit buttons to talk...but I guess whatever works best for you is all that matters...
@@minusx31 XD I would never hold a walkie-talkie in my hand while driving ahah, there are a lot of solutions out there, like wired or BT PTT buttons to attach to the handlebar. All depends from the requirements, a constantly open comm channel between 6-7 bikers would make you mad in 20 minutes.

If you're referring to connecting across brands, then yes, Sena offers universal intercom pairing. However, those universal pairing connections have a shortened intercom range. -DrewZilla
i have sena 30k, lots of problems communicating with a group of other riders, note we all have sena 30k. Speakers sounds like a tin can. We all just recently upgraded to Cardo Bold, jbl speakers sound very good, have not group tested yet
I can't say enough bad about Sena. I got a 10R about this time last year. The instructions for installation, both in the box and on the Sena website were inadequate, to put it mildly. Their website, their software and their firmware upgrades have been a nightmare to deal with. The speakers did not put out enough volume to be heard even at moderate speeds in my full-face, Shoei "low noise" helmet, so I had to get the optional earbud adaptor and find earbuds that would work well in the helmet. Then after about 6 months, one side of the 10R quit working. It took me six months and dozens of emails to get them to honor the warranty and send me a new unit. Their customer service people were polite, but not set up to do more than very, very poor customer response. Buyer beware!
That is about the opposite of my experince with my 10R. Had a part DOA and had a new one in 2 weeks. Customer service was great. Once I got the speakers positioned over my ear canals, I can hear fine up to highway speeds in a very loud modular helmet with vents open and visor cracked open (first detent). In winter with vents closed, interstate speeds are fine as well. Ive had mine for over a year now, still working fine.
I on the other hand can not say enough good about Sena. I have a set of first generation SMH10s that I bought in 2010. I have used them in several helmets over the last 9 years (Shoei RJ, Shoei 1200, Bell Star, Fuller Modular, etc.). The system was great, always connected to other Sena units. I have had up to 4 other units in my group. Sound was very high quality and loud enough to clearly enjoy music or the discussion even while using the open face RJ. The boom microphone can get a bit sketchy at current highway speeds(70 mph+) with that helmet ( no problems with any of the full faced or modular helmets. I have now switched to the Sena 30k to increase the number of members in our riding group who can join in.
I like Sena in general and have used them the past decade or so until recently picking up a Duo set of Cardo SmartPack Slim (6.7.19). Overall the Sena units are good, but not only are they not waterproof, but they are also barely even water resistant. That dating back to the SMH-10 and continuing on through the 20s, 20s Evo and 30K. Even mild rain will more often than not cause a unit to break up and turn itself off. It (usually) works again after it dries out, but the wet does take its toll. One unit never did turn back on after the second or third such self turn off. On the SMH-10's, I have taken them apart to replace the batteries and the corrosion from previous bouts of being wet are evident. If you do ride in the rain, especially for long days touring, Sena units are a poor choice.
Can different manufacturers pair with each others devices? E.g. with the pack talk will that pair with sena and still not let the sena's get dropped while one rider splits off, or does everyone have to have the same com device?
If the group is mostly Sena, there can be two non-Sena units in the group. If the group is mostly the PackTalk, each individual PackTalk unit can be connected to a Sena to bring it into the PackTalk group. However, each Sena has to maintain a very close distance to the PackTalk it is paired to. -DrewZilla
A Sena helmet...yeah right. I'll suffer through with my Shoei GT Air and $90 Sena 3S. Works just fine on my naked bike, even on the freeway at sub-sonic speeds. I don't have any need to talk to other riders unless it is some kid on a crotch rocket approaching my six at 110 mph. My local moto accessory shop even seemlessly installed the 3S in my helmet in about 10 minutes. I also buy from Revzilla too when I can. Nice video.
Any of the Cardos with the JBL speakers is best for music. I've listed them below. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/cardo-packtalk-bold-jbl-headset *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/cardo-packtalk-slim-jbl-headset *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/cardo-freecom-4-plus-headset

Good stuff. Love my Sena 20s, but while the Sena Bluetooth Audio Pack works with GoPro 3 and 4, it is INCOMPATIBLE with GoPro 5 and 6 cameras. GoPros shown around 5:57 do not work with the BTAP.
These are the best for solo riders. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/cardo-freecom-1 *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/sena-3s-wb-bluetooth-headset-universal-mic
While all of these offer universal pairing, for better range, it's best to match brands. If your roommate has the Schuberth SRC system, that was made by Cardo, so you might want to get a Cardo unit. If your roommate has the Schuberth SC1 system or Sena 10U for Schuberth, then you'd probably do best by getting a Sena unit yourself. -DrewZilla
So let’s say I get the sena Bluetooth helmet, and then I get the sena 20S Bluetooth headset for my other helmet, will I be able to rider pair those devices to each other?
You cannot connect a Sena over Cardo's mesh network, but the Cardo mesh communicators like the PackTalk have a feature called Cardo Gateway. That allows a PackTalk to connect to a Sena over standard Bluetooth, and the PackTalk acts as a gateway to the rest of the mesh network. The Sena user has to remain within a closer distance to the Cardo user s/he is paired to. -DrewZilla
The Sena 30K is now using the mesh network but Scala has been using it for a few years now so they are the leaders with that. My concern about the Sena Momentum helmet is the replacement of speakers or microphones when they go faulty, are they replaceable?
No mention of the waterproof-ness? It used to be that Cardo was rated "waterproof" while sena was something like "water resistant" and they did not recommend using them in the rain.
@Drew Gray Wish I could say that. Seems every time we even get in even moderate rain, one of the 20s EVO units starts to fail and shuts off. Last weekend, about 15-20 mins of moderate rain and my wife's unit shuts down. Had to blow it out with compressed air and dry it in rice. It will work again after drying out, but it's really frustrating. Have had similar issues with older Sena's as well going back to the SMH-10's. Just picked up a Duo Pack of Cardo Packtalk Slims out of frustration with it. Going to try the other side of the fence for a bit and see how it goes.
Sena likes to announce products while still in the development phase. We're hoping it's out sometime this season, but there's no firm release date. -DrewZilla
No, many of these communicators will interfere with the path of the chin bar as it rotates. The low-profile Sena 10R would work, as it can be placed out of the path of the chin bar. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/sena-10r-low-profile-motorcycle-bluetooth-headset
Universal communicators generally fit _most_ helmets. Most helmets would accept the units' standard clamp mounts, though some helmets need to use the units' adhesive mounts. You also have to consider speaker space. If your helmet has room for speakers, you should be fine. -DrewZilla
I don't believe we have the FG-ST in the US, so I can't tell you anything with 100% certainty. However, I believe the FG-ST is based off of the FG-17, which does not have speaker pockets. It does have a flat space a speaker could fit onto, but without a recess it wouldn't be very comfortable. -Kraus-e
Ok so all i need is phone call capability and music streaming from my phone, but i want premium sound. So which unit in addition to these is the best bang for your buck? I mainly commute to work and zero group riding.
The UCLEAR AMP Go is the best option for you: great sound quality without all the extra features you don't need. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/uclear-amp-go-bluetooth-communicator-single-pack
Yes, most Cardos offer that (PackTalk, SmartPack, Freecom) as well as the Interphone Tour. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/cardo-packtalk-bold-headset *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/cardo-smartpack-headset *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/cardo-freecom-4-headset *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/interphone-tour-bluetooth-intercom

Not by itself. You would need a Sena Audio Back for GoPro. It attaches to the back of Hero3 and Hero4 cameras to provide a Bluetooth audio connection to the Momentum Helmet's communicator. Keep in mind, the Audio Back is NOT compatible with the redesigned Hero5, Hero6, and any of the Session cameras. It only works with the older Hero3 and Hero4 cameras (and their "Plus" versions e.g. Hero3+ et al). -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/sena-bluetooth-audio-back-for-gopro-with-waterproof-housing
I was going to ask the same question, thank you for responding. Is the only way to purchase products from RevZilla online? Or is there a physical location?
I've used 4 or 5 brands and i'm sena all the way, DESPITE them taking FOREVER to release the 10c Evo.... I really wish they had voice activated time though, an overlooked feature I think.
Before Bluetooth communicators existed, rider and passenger still had to communicate. It was like Morse code: My passenger (my wife) would knock my helmet once for a pee break, twice for the other kind, three times to speed up, four for slow down(she never used that one) and five for beer break. Can't knock that system!
The Uclear Amp Pro is also a good choice. It has noise reduction for its microphones, but it does not have active noise cancellation for its speakers. -DrewZilla
Yes, but current Packtalk and Smartpack owners can upgrade and get the same features(minus Natural Talk which is part of the new DSP Board in the Bold) as the new Bold versions of those units via Firmware Upgrade and new Cardo Connect App(which replaces Cardo Smartset App) which is live now on the Cardo Community - community1.cardosystems.com/signup
There will be an update called the PackTalk BOLD, which will have even better voice recognition. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/cardo-packtalk-bold-headset
i'm a little sad that Norwegian prices are so steep, the 20s evo as a doublepack costs around 750$ + shipping here =/ that's 375$ per unit , oh well, best to save money
You cannot use mesh mode with a Sena, but you can use the universal intercom pairing in Bluetooth mode to connect to a Sena. You would connect to one of the Senas in the group, and that Sena would be the link to the rest of the group for intercom communication. -DrewZilla
RevZilla does this use up my Bluetooth channel so I cannot continue to use my phone? Or can I use my phone for music etc and be connected to the Senas??
You can still use BT intercom while paired to the phone. But if you ride with others frequently, it’s time for everyone to upgrade to the Cardo DMC platform.
@@RevZilla I already have a sena 20s evo. Would I be able to connect the uclear pulse speakers to the unit? And what's the difference between the amp base, plus and pro versions?
Yes, you could use the UCLEAR Pulse Speakers (with the 3.5mm jack) with the Sena. The Base model is for rider-to-passenger only and uses Boost Plus speakers. The Plus supports 6-rider intercom and uses the Boost Plus speakers. The Pro supports 10+ riders and uses the Pulse Pro Speakers (these are the best speakers of any communicator currently but cannot be used with a Sena, since they connect via mini-usb, not a 3.5mm stereo jack). -DrewZilla
If riding in a large group, the majority of the riders need to have the same brand. In the case of the Cardo PackTalk, everyone but one needs to have a PackTalk, in order to take advantage of the mesh connection. Most communicators offer a universal pairing mode, so that you can connect a single communicator from a different brand into a group of other-brand communicators. -DrewZilla
im wanting a helmet bluetooth for me and my passenger that has the audio multitasking..audio overlay..or whatever else its called.. basically i dont want to have to press a button to switch from music to talk with my passenger..i know the sena s20 has that but its too rich for my blood.. what cheaper models have features like that..? do any of the chinese ones offer this.. ?? thanks for any help..!
Top of the line features mean top of the line price, I'm afraid. I'm not aware of any Chinese types that do it since we don't carry them, but it's possible. Otherwise only time will bring the prices down and make those features more prevalent. -Kraus-e
I got the 10S back when they started discounting them due to the 20S and 30k on the horizon. I dunno if it's just mine or just the 10S but the phone app is lousy imo, these things don't get loud enough, and i recently found that with my friend getting the 20S that it's annoying and vague to pair intercoms on these. the only tip i got really was "sometimes" it may be necessary to unpair from our phones, pair the intercoms, then rejoin....which doesn't seem to work. Is it just the old utility and not the new where i SHOULD be able to go into the intercom/pairing menu; and SEE the other headset transmitting to pair them up for intercom management? Once they're paired the sound quality is excellent but the "easy" task of connecting 2 together is accidental success at best.
Hello, I'm looking for an intercom where 4 riders can be connected at once. Not in pairs. So e.g. when I'm talking all 3 other riders can hear me at once and vise versa. Is there something like that available on the market. I'm not looking e.g. an intercom where u have to switch groups if there are more than 2 riders connected... Thank you in advance
Yes, what you're looking for is the standard for most communicators. The most affordable options for connecting a group of 4 all at once would be the Sena SMH10 as well as the Sena SMH10R. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/sena-smh-10-bluetooth-stereo-headset *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/sena-smh10r-bluetooth-headset
The 30K is having volume issues. I talked to the guys at cycle gear and they said even with the new firmware that was specificlly for that low volume, it didn't really fix it.
That's disappointing. UA-cam vids have claimed the firmware updates on the 30K make it much more user friendly than the PackTalk. Was gonna get a 30K installed at the dealer but now I'm not so sure.
I had the 30K and returned it the next day. I ended up with the 20S, but put the UClear speakers in instead of the stock Sena ones. And with the 20S being only $200 now it's really a deal that you can't pass up if you're in the market.
I have the 30K there is no problems with this unit maybe the first few weeks but not any more, it’s the best out of all of what this video show you, there’s About 5 guys that have the 30K and every one is very happy and it is user friendly
David Adiv I agree, the best sound quality both talking and listening. Just moved from Pack Talk with the upgraded speakers and love the 30K. The music and intercom sound excellent and everyone I talk to on the phone thinks I’m in my living room.
Hi RevZilla! I have a trouble and hope you might help me (or anyone please 🙏🏻) So I just bought a BMW System 7 Carbon Helmet and I am looking for a Communication System, since in my country the BMW Communication System is not available for at least 6 months I want to buy another one but I do not know which ones are compatible with the Helmet. Please somebody help me!!!
Due to the shell shape and sun visor mechanism, I can only recommend the Sena 10R, Cardo Freecom 4, and Cardo PackTalk Bold with their adhesive mount options. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/sena-10r-low-profile-motorcycle-bluetooth-headset *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/cardo-freecom-4-headset *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/cardo-packtalk-bold-headset
"What's new about the Evo, its more water resistant." You'd think that would've been standard on every helmet bluetooth. I mean I'd be pissed as fuck if I dropped $200+ on a bluetooth only for it to crap out in a light drizzle.
Hi Anthony!, Thanks for the informational piece to you and the investigative team. I have some questions before purchasing a unit: 1-what would work best for modular helmets for basically two riders (myself + my rear-seater passenger)? 2-I did a quick search for "Sena modular helmets" and didn't come back with anything. Do they do a modular helmet version?, cause the Sena Momentum helmet isn't one. What did come up was a "Bilt Techno 2.0 Sena Bluetooth Modular Helmet" (MSRP at $220 on Amazon); while the Sena Momentum on Amazon is advertise for $399. 3-I did a search on your website for "modular helmets" (searched the HJC IS-Max 2 Dova Helmet and the Scorpion EXO-GT920) and none had the bilt-in/fully integrated or hardware-ready comm features. Any suggestions for ready-to-use comms modular helmets? In the end, I am looking for a comm (possibly purchasing a modular helmet w/ comms already in it or having the hardware-ready for) that would let me communicate w/ my rear passenger, cell phone usage, and that's about it - I don't need all the bells and whistles. Before forking out $379 for the Sena 20S Dual pack ($379 on Amazon), I would appreciate your feedback. Thanks! p.s.: any suggestion for video recording device for a modal helmet as well. The Sony I purchased didn't stay too long attached sideways. :-/ The Sena Prism Tube camera (MSRP for $119 on your website) states "...mounts all types of motorcycle helmets"
Sena does not make their own modular helmet, but that Bilt modular helmet does have a very basic Sena communicator built-in. If you're on a strict budget, that helmet might be ok for you. However, you cannot take the communicator with you if you get a new helmet. Instead, you might want to get two of the Sena 3S-WB communicators and install them in any modular helmets you want. As for a camera, the Prism Tube would be a nice compact option for you. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/sena-3s-wb-bluetooth-headset-universal-mic *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/sena-prism-tube-camera
These all have boom microphones that attach to the side of the helmet, so they can be used with 3/4 open face helmets. It's harder to use these with half helmets though. -DrewZilla
Virtually all Bluetooth headsets will do that, only some of the cheaper solo units do not. I prefer Sena myself, and the 10R specifically because of its small footprint. -Kraus-e www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/sena-10r-low-profile-motorcycle-bluetooth-headset
I've had Sena products for years and bought the 30k... I absolutely CAN NOT recommend it at this point. Mesh is only 'functional' in that you can get connected... audio quality is so poor that mesh is completely unusable (laggy, choppy, undecipherable even when you're standing right next to each other). Without mesh the 30k is a less functional but more expensive 20k. We've backed off to using bluetooth until Sena gets the firmware sorted.
I see no mention of UClear - My friends and I have been using them for years. I just upgraded to the Amp Pro last year from HBC 200's and they are even better. They have had all the functions these units have just come out with for years. And there is no boom mic's to deal with. Water/Dust Proof too. Our group rides have over 30 people and we can stretch out to 5 to 6 miles and we are all still connected with the piggy back function that built in. But hey that just my opinion and observation from using there stuff.
hi the guy at cycle gear is suggesting the uclear to me. I need 4or more intercom/Bluetooth cold tolerant for snowmobiling and long range for sledding in the woods. he demo'd it on the counter and it didn't seem that loud but I guess listening to it on a counter isn't a good test. what is this piggybacking? and can you give me any other tips or suggestions? do you still think the uclear is the way to go? I'm thinking of doing up to 5 helmets 3 snowmobiling 2 motorcycle
Most of the recommended communicators have 3.5mm audio jacks, so I'd recommend using molded in-ear headphones instead of the stock communicator speakers and hearing aids. That way you can boost the volume while reducing outside wind noise. -DrewZilla
I was recently in the market for these. I checked out the SENA 20S EVO and 30k as well. I chose the Scala Rider PackTalk Duo kit for 2 reasons:
1. Waterproof - There are a lot of complaints online about SENA units dying in the rain. No thanks.
2. Best sound quality with included speakers - Sure I can upgrade the speaker at extra cost but why bother. These sound pretty good.
Hi Jeff.... Are you happy with the purchase? Or regret not getting the Sena? Thanks
Interesting. In my opinion the Cardo speakers are way worse than Sena's. Lower sound volume and quite a lot of distortion.
All the tech, nobody to ride with

I'm in that boat. However everyone & their brother seems to call me when I'm riding.
Same. I see one or two bikes out per hour of riding I’d say. It’s a loner hobby for me. And most are Harley bros that are too cool for a hyper naked rider. Haha. Ah those macho nerds make me laugh.
There is no good reason why you have to ride alone. Get on an online riding forum for the area in which you live and you will meet lots of riders!

Will any of these units play Kenny Loggins' 'Danger Zone' on continuous loop ...? That's all I needed to know; thanks ...
I believe they will
( not confirmed )

No one ever talks about the loudness of each one in a meaningful way. Or compares the units on loudness.
Michael Anderson uclear amp pro or just the pulse pro speakers are the loudest best sounding speakers you can put in a helmet in my opinion.
Michael Anderson jhy
All the speakers kinda suck, I own Sena 20s and Cardo. I put UClear HD speakers in all my helmets. It has to have a speaker input though, the Sena 10C won’t work.
I find the same model has wildly different performance in the different helmets. Had Sena 10U in my Shoei Neotec (loud) and Klim Krios (barely audible), and a similar Sena SRL in my Neotec 2 (moderate). I like Sena hardware but their support is beyond useless so I've never gotten an answer as to why there is so much variation.
Jolly Green Biker so you use a sena w the other speakers? Where do I find the speakers? I'm thinking of the 20s but heard the sound is shitty.
Anthony you are a natural in front of the camera. Great job!
All my boys have cardo duo talk and says is the best out there now.. Plus I already ordered mine
Beginner rider here and have a few questions:
-DrewZilla

And the review of the UClear AMP Pro?? Best sound quality of any unit. Completely waterproof. And no need for a boom mic.
Anthony - Just came back from Drexel with my stepson. Very inspiring speech!!
liked the helmet, the low to no profile of the controls makes it the best, hopefully someone will come up with a low profile "sticker" kind of controls in the future.
Umm i just read all the comments... i have no idea now. Anthony you did a great job, keep up the good work, i'll figure it out
I have a sena cavalry half helmet and am very happy with its quality so will likely get a sena full face here shortly.
Enjoy! - Pat
Really helpful I thank you much and I hope your and your family is safe in these hard times. Thanks again
He mentioned being able to share music with another rider in the beginning but didn’t say which helmet can do it. I suppose I can just google it but I was looking forward to getting that info here.
All of the communicators featured can do so. The specific Bluetooth-integrated helmet featured is the Sena Momentum series. -DrewZilla

-DrewZilla

I like the SENA for the voice activation and range. Can you talk on other companies equipment?

If you're referring to connecting across brands, then yes, Sena offers universal intercom pairing. However, those universal pairing connections have a shortened intercom range. -DrewZilla
@@RevZilla thank you for the answer. I'm going to order a new SENA set up.
@@RevZilla thank you.
I swear you keep saying communists...
Hey, I guess communists could use comm. units too haha! -DrewZilla
i have sena 30k, lots of problems communicating with a group of other riders, note we all have sena 30k.
Nice video.
Glad to hear you're keeping it under 761mph buddy. Ride safe.

how's the connectivity to another unit on these? ie my roommate just got a schubert com unit would any of these allow pairing between the two?
While all of these offer universal pairing, for better range, it's best to match brands. If your roommate has the Schuberth SRC system, that was made by Cardo, so you might want to get a Cardo unit. If your roommate has the Schuberth SC1 system or Sena 10U for Schuberth, then you'd probably do best by getting a Sena unit yourself. -DrewZilla
So let’s say I get the sena Bluetooth helmet, and then I get the sena 20S Bluetooth headset for my other helmet, will I be able to rider pair those devices to each other?
Yes, they'll pair to each other just fine. -DrewZilla
Can you use the the cardo mesh network to connect to a buddies Sena device
Gonna have to send the whole helmet in.....yikes.
No mention of the waterproof-ness? It used to be that Cardo was rated "waterproof" while sena was something like "water resistant" and they did not recommend using them in the rain.
mart242 That’s still the case...
SENA has a strong marketing machine in this case... there's no way I'd buy an intercom that's just "water resistant" for use on a bike!
Going to try the other side of the fence for a bit and see how it goes.
great work guys and gals ! just one thing, the new studio gets a lot of sound eco, need to fill it up or pad it down :-)

I have a Shark Evoline Pro Carbon. Will all these comm systems work well with my helmet's modular design?
No, many of these communicators will interfere with the path of the chin bar as it rotates. The low-profile Sena 10R would work, as it can be placed out of the path of the chin bar. -DrewZilla
*www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/sena-10r-low-profile-motorcycle-bluetooth-headset
Does this work for any helment or does it have too be a specific helment?
Universal communicators generally fit _most_ helmets. Most helmets would accept the units' standard clamp mounts, though some helmets need to use the units' adhesive mounts. You also have to consider speaker space. If your helmet has room for speakers, you should be fine. -DrewZilla

I don't believe we have the FG-ST in the US, so I can't tell you anything with 100% certainty. However, I believe the FG-ST is based off of the FG-17, which does not have speaker pockets. Not sure if you covered this question or not but on a sena momentum.. would we be able to connect a go-pro?
Not by itself. You would need a Sena Audio Back for GoPro. It attaches to the back of Hero3 and Hero4 cameras to provide a Bluetooth audio connection to the Momentum Helmet's communicator. Keep in mind, the Audio Back is NOT compatible with the redesigned Hero5, Hero6, and any of the Session cameras. It only works with the older Hero3 and Hero4 cameras (and their "Plus" versions e.g. Hero3+ et al). -DrewZilla

I've used 4 or 5 brands and i'm sena all the way, DESPITE them taking FOREVER to release the 10c Evo.... I really wish they had voice activated time though, an overlooked feature I think.
Before Bluetooth communicators existed, rider and passenger still had to communicate. It was like Morse code: My passenger

I'm really confused. Doesn't the Sena 30K have mesh? Is it not real mesh?
Yes, it does use a mesh connection for its intercom. -DrewZilla
So, if I buy the PackTalk can I bluetooth and talk to riders in my group that have Senas? Cause Sena is definitely what most riders are using.

I already have a sena 20s evo.
-DrewZilla
Do you need to have the same model as your buddies to talk?
If riding in a large group, the majority of the riders need to have the same brand. In the case of the Cardo PackTalk, everyone but one needs to have a PackTalk, in order to take advantage of the mesh connection. Most communicators offer a universal pairing mode, so that you can connect a single communicator from a different brand into a group of other-brand communicators. -DrewZilla

The UCLEAR Amp Pro speakers are a bit louder than others. -DrewZilla

Nice. I have a freecom 4 on my mx helmet.
So was the new 30K considered in this shootout? Interested in how the PackTalk compares to the 30K
I have the 30K there is no problems with this unit maybe the first few weeks but not any more, it’s the best out of all of what this video show you, there’s
About 5 guys that have the 30K and every one is very happy and it is user friendly
David Adiv I agree, the best sound quality both talking and listening. Just moved from Pack Talk with the upgraded speakers and love the 30K. The music and intercom sound excellent and everyone I talk to on the phone thinks I’m in my living room.
can it connect to other brands?
Yes, the featured communicators have universal intercom pairing, so that one communicator from a different brand can be connected. -DrewZilla
-DrewZilla

Hi do you have a review for half helmets
Indeed we do! -DrewZilla

"What's new about the Evo, its more water resistant." You'd think that would've been standard on every helmet bluetooth. I mean I'd be pissed as fuck if I dropped $200+ on a bluetooth only for it to crap out in a light drizzle.
Hi Anthony!,
Thanks for the informational piece to you and the investigative team. I have some questions before purchasing a unit:
1-what would work best for modular helmets for basically two riders (myself + my rear-seater passenger)?
-DrewZilla

Thanks for replying. 👍
I have sena 10r had to get a one size bigger AVG helmet reason to tight at ears
@5:26 What kind of Helmet is that?? i want one
It's a Scorpion EXO-AT950 Helmet. It can be worn with and without that peak visor. -DrewZilla

so when are you going to present the characteristics in grams, and cm? :)
Installation on an open face?
These all have boom microphones that attach to the side of the helmet, so they can be used with 3/4 open face helmets. It's harder to use these with half helmets though. -DrewZilla
I just need to know what to buy to talk to another couple riders. That's it
Virtually all Bluetooth headsets will do that, only some of the cheaper solo units do not. I prefer Sena myself, and the 10R specifically because of its small footprint. -Kraus-e

This video makes no sense cardo has been doing dmc for a while now and why is the 30k not on here?
MannyFz07 Prob because “Cardo has been doing DMC for a while now...” and Mesh is very new for Sena/30k. I tested both, 30K has a LONG way to go
I've had Sena products for years and bought the 30k...
I definitively agree to you. Maximum range using 5 devices via DMC: 400m
I'm thinking of doing up to 5 helmets 3 snowmobiling 2 motorcycle
nice tshirt, mate!
what about people with hearing aids? since a lot of time the hearing aids would give feedback to a lot of helmets!
Most of the recommended communicators have 3.5mm audio jacks, so I'd recommend using molded in-ear headphones instead of the stock communicator speakers and hearing aids. That way you can boost the volume while reducing outside wind noise. -DrewZilla
