- Join me in my Let's Play & Beginner Guide series with Humankind, a turn-based 4X strategy game heavily inspired by the Civilization series. It's developed by Amplitude Studios, the creators of Endless Legend and the Endless Space games. This series will be a bit of a beginner guide or walkthrough tutorial for those brand new to the game, as I'll explain how mechanics work and my reasoning for each decision as I play.

"A Tribe's Legacy" triggers only if you reach 10 science in the Neolithic era (it's a permanent bonus to your people).
You have to get the star for science to get it, on slower speeds it requires more science to get that star.

Cool continent shape, relatively empty space so there's room for expansion, cool resources and awesome climate (since I'm from continental and I hate winters - I love tropical/savanna in games). Also you didn't pick Zhou like all streamers I've seen so far. Looking forward to next episode!
I think everyone picks Zhou because they're a science country :D

The placement of outposts and cities is what really gives me fits. I have opened up the map a good bit yet still cant pick where I want to settle. Afraid I will just screw it all up
Well keep in mind that the starting food and production is just what your city will get initially, eventually it can grow to get all of the resources of the entire territory, at which point your city location won't be that important. Though do consider the defensiveness of the location, as that can be helpful when attacked. Honestly, district placement is probably more important than city placement in order to maximize yields and adjacency bonuses.

Coming back to this 3000 time it is way better.
They certainly made some improvements over the years, but not as many as I expected.

I'm not sure how far we'll go yet, depends on the views as usual. It would be great to finish the campaign though, as I love this game :)
You should try Anno games if you like this style of games. It’s like Civ and Humankind but with really good graphics and each game covers one point in history and the future.
I've been wanting to try one of them, have never played any of the Anno games yet

Thanks for posting the video. Also, thanks for explaining sanctuary; I've been playing the game for a little while, but I didn't understand what sanctuary was.
Also, I would have thought players would try to build an outpost in multiple territories during the Neolithic era. It's not clear to me why you waited so long to build your first outpost.

@@PraetorianHiJynx To be fair, I did attempt a play through in which I would build outposts in more territories. I found that it doesn't take that much influence to build your first outpost, but it takes a whole lot more to build your second, like around 60.
I'm at turn 12, and still just one outpost (which has become a city). I'll have enough influence to build a new outpost in about two or three turns.
Well keep in mind that this was just my second or third campaign, I now typically build an outpost a bit sooner, though I do still prefer finding an optimum location before doing so.
kinda wish you had placed the pyramid district one more to the left for the aesthetic/look of it, can you imagine looking up a cliff face to see a pyramid with a shining gold top at the peak, or looking down on the world from the artificial mountain your people created.
Yeah I suppose it would have looked better there, but it was better to place it where we did for the extra production ;)
You could name it Cairo for now, and everytime you go into a new age name a city after that culture/countries capitol
Edit: im aware that cultures dont have a capitol but you could name it after the biggest countries capitol out of that culture

Nice play,just to remind you we can freeze the screen to read if we wish so no need to read out every popup.
Yes of course, I don't read it as an insult to anyone's intelligence lol, but just because when I don't I get a lot of comments from people who prefer that I did. It is also nice to get context when selecting which option I'll go with :)
@@PraetorianHiJynx I tend to watch youtubes like yours to see the gameplay mostly,when whole paragraphs start to be read out it can be more time consuming for myself,yes i do skip out of them but in turn can miss other narrative or points,just brought it up so like you say you can get a perspective of your audience who do and dont like being read too.

Well it is certainly a better game, and it has gotten the Together We Rule expansion recently (which I haven't bought yet). However, development has been a bit slower than I would have liked to see.

Im wondering, aren't there disadvantages to waiting so long to create your first outpost? Seems like it would put you fairly far behind
What would the disadvantages be? Keep in mind that you can't turn the outpost into a city until you leave the Neolithic age, and an outpost does nothing on its own. It needs to be a city before you start producing influence and science in it, and also can't construct buildings in an outpost.
@@PraetorianHiJynx the downside is that land isn't yours my guy.
@@BrightWendigo Not all land is equal, and since each territory increases the influence cost for new outposts, just grabbing territory for the sake of having new lands is not the best option in the early game.

Is this similar to age of empires 2 and 3?
No, it's not much like the Age of Empire games, which are more of an RTS strategy game, this is a lot like the Civilization series.

I see that you have to mouse over every tile in order to understand it's value to you; is this because you are new to the game, or is it because the game is poorly designed?
Well I was somewhat new to the game, considering I had only played one and a half campaigns before this series, so that's certainly a factory, but I also try to hover over everything when discussing it (and I do a lot of that as I try to optimize decisions lol) so that viewers can see the tooltips :)

Why does no one forge an alliance or any kind of trade with me. They always attack you. Even worse on lower states. Either im the King of humanity and everyone wants to be my friend: to be that i must kill all my enemys.... or im the friendly guy wich is to uninportant to be a viable option for an aliance. either way its always killing instead of diplomacy
please help (imo: worst freature of the game)
I haven't had any issues getting alliances with other countries, however they either have to be a friendlier leader (leader traits can be very important) or they can't see you as weak. Best way to start up a friendly relationship is signing a trading agreement and a non-aggression pact, but the AI won't care about that if they see you as an easy target ;)

When I saw Civ VI graphics and saw those... animations (absolutely cartoonish workers) I almost puked. Humankind is my salvation after years of Civ IV and V.
I wasn't a big fan of Civ VI's graphics and map, but I still prefer the game to Civ V.
