its the market circumstances that have changed drasticaly compared to 50 plus years ago. its much easier and accepted to survive without a man in todays world for a woman. if we put 50 men and 25 women on an island far away without anything, "chad" (if good looking is all he got) will not be the most succesful man anymore on that small dating market on that island! woman still will "settle" for the best option they can get, but the best option will not only be represented by having good looks alone, it will heavily include smartness, strength, workethics and provider-ability. back then it basicly was almost impossible to be a "succesful" single mother, thats why woman had to chose more wisely by factoring in all the other values a man has too, she couldnt take the playboy far above her smv and get left alone pregnant in a world without welfare and goverment support structures and where being a single mother was heavily stigmatised by society and by their own family (because they will have to deal with that burden and to come up for the stupiddating decsions their daughter made, but they reley themselfs on the wise decsions of their daugther having a working familystructuce when they get old and need financial support or care from her. and also almost no other man would ever take a woman that already got children from another man in those times) but today she can! in first world countries financialwise its even benefictial (indirectly incentevised) to be a single mom. (at least in my country a household that consits a mother (not working!) with one child will have higher "income" per person compared to an traditional household with a father (working fulltime minimum wage) a mother (working a minijob) and a child.) woman in the west dont have to settle, as they can have it all! baby by chad and money by working or just by govt support structures, they dont need a man in their life if they dont want.
