Kylie IS joy. Everyone who listens to Kylie can’t help but smile. The story goes that the producers in England forgot she was flying over from Oz to record her first song. She was on a massive hit tv show called Neighbours, and kids in Britain would bunk off school at lunch to go and watch Neighbours, so much so that they had to repeat the show at half five in the afternoon to stop the truancy. So the producers left Kylie in the waiting room and hurriedly wrote the song, got her into the studio, she sang it once and nailed it and went back to Oz. The show Neighbours was very wholesome, and although Kylie was a mechanic and a bit of a tomboy, it was still a different time of what dating was and the innocence of it all back then was high.
For perspective Kylie was already a huge household name in the UK and I presume in her native Australia by the time this song was released due to her character Charlene in the soap opera Neighbours. Neighbours was shown in the UK twice a day Monday to Friday and her characters onscreen wedding was watched by 20 million people in the UK.

This was her first single in the UK, written by stock, aikmen and waterman, the masterminds behind many 80s hits, her first actual single was Locomotion (which I'm sure you'll come across at some point) Locomotion was later released in the UK as the loco-motion. But interesting fact for you, as Mike said, kylie has been in the industry for 37 years, still releasing hits, and is the first female artist to have number one albums in 5 consecutive decades in the UK, but in relation to iI should be so lucky, stock aikmen and waterman forgot she was meeting them, and wrote the song in 30 minutes before she flew home to Australia that night
I bought this record in a record store in communist East Berlin/Germany for 10 East Mark ( a fortune back then in the Socialist republic of Germany) when we visited one afternoon with our schoolclass from West Germany- It was May 1989 and in October the wall came down..I think Kylie was 19 here, she already was a child TV actor in Australia. Successful Uk producer team Stock Aitken Waterman wrote thins song for her and this was her first record..(They were the masterminds behind Rick Astley, too)..
Do you still have it? I bought it on tape in Poland back then, but unfortunately I got rid of all my cassettes when I got enamoured with MP3s in 2000s.
It's interesting you mention Rick Astley at the end - because both his and Kylie's first singles (including I Should Be So Lucky) were Stock, Aitken, Waterman productions. "SAW" had an incredible run of hit UK singles from the mid 80's to early 90's. Good spot.

She was really big in Europe and Australia, had a string of number 1 singles (even had numbers 1 in Japan) in the late 80s. She had a "sweet girl next door" image until she decided to go for a more adult and sexy image in the 90s. Curious that you mention Ricky Astley. The producers PWL were the same for Kylie Minogue, Ricky Astley, Bananarama, Jason Donovan, Sonia and more.
Although not as popular, she has a sister Dannii Minogue who also had a long music career from the 80s until now. This song was part of the same guys that produced Rick Astley and a couple of Donna Summer songs in the late 80s also known as SAW (Stock Aitken Waterman). They also did You Spin Me Round and their sound dominated the club scene through the early 90s.
By the time that first chorus finished you were both ear to ear smiles. Pure pop-poppopity-pop perfection! You've been seduced - Kylie's first hit song. Let us know, after the reaction vid, how long did you have this song stuck in your head?!

All the Lovers (10's)
Padam Padam (20's) although her new single is kinda epic
She was really big in Europe and Australia, had a string of number 1 singles (even had numbers 1 in Japan) in the late 80s.
She had a "sweet girl next door" image until she decided to go for a more adult and sexy image in the 90s.
Curious that you mention Ricky Astley. The producers PWL were the same for Kylie Minogue, Ricky Astley, Bananarama, Jason Donovan, Sonia and more.
I love Kylie, but this video is so embarrassing, when I watch it I BLUSH like I'm involved in the making of it. 😂
Dannii's career has not been going as long considering she has had extended periods (in some cases DECADES) of inactivity.
By the time that first chorus finished you were both ear to ear smiles. Pure pop-poppopity-pop perfection! You've been seduced - Kylie's first hit song. Let us know, after the reaction vid, how long did you have this song stuck in your head?!
The producers forgot they had a meeting with Kylie! So they wrote this song in 10 minutes while she was waiting….!
Yes, one correction - this is from 1987, not 1988.
Hope you guys listen to some later hits! She gets better!!
i know your only new to kylie but take it from a super fan for 37 years since she started she had lows in her career and back in the 90's she had alot of critism from [people who were saying she is trying to be the next Madonna and her voice and Madonna's a very distinctly different madonna is lower ran g and kylie is higher boith same height and that is her natural sounding voice her inspiration as a younger teenager was more Janet Jackson and prince who wrote a song with kylie before he died so you guys have sooooooo much to learn and appreciate before assumptions are made..,madonna fan here as well but ash9ould also CHECK out the duo kylie and Madonna who recently sang together
She already did the going to school dating then marrying the boy next door on neighbours.which we got in the uk in 85.
She went out irl with jason Donovan who played the boy next door.then she went out with Michael hutchance lead singer of inxs.
You joke about rick Astley bit they were signed to the same record label as was jason Donovan.pwl, stock atkin and Waterman.known as the hit factory.
During the 80's they could have a few jits in the charts at the same time tgat they had a hand in making.
When Kylie and Jason's characters scott and charlene got married it was one of the most watched events of the 80's with at least 20million watching.
They even wrote a special song and asked a particular guy to sing it that they put over the scene.suddenly- angry Anderson.
Can't wait to see what was picked for the pther 4 as she has like 37yrs 16 albums and her 4 collabs this year so far to pick from.
👑Kylie!
Check out Northern Kings cover of Kylie song "I Should Be So Lucky". Absolutely brilliant! ❤
If you can find it you should watch the video of a young Kylie singing before a room full of ultra conservative Spaniards. The camera keeps cutting to the audience and all you see is faces showing boredom and disdain. But the trooper that she is she just goes on smiling and singing 😊
Love you guys 11:20
she wasn’t trying to sound like Madonna, it’s just her voice. she’s a very tiny lady saw her voice always has been high-pitched.
We need a Kylie Minogue, week 2:

Oh, this is gonna be good. How can you do just five Kylie songs? How do you pick only five??
Look, I absolutely LOVE Kylie - one of my favourite pop performers... but I loathe this song. I know it is one of her early classics but I seriously hate it and she has had so many classic, better songs in her many decades of hits since.
Same, to me it is very repetitive and drags on for too long
Please react more of kylie songs. ❤❤❤
Well FINALY! you should react to the X Tour 2008.
You MUST react to “Confide in Me” and “Slow”.
Be interesting to see what the top 5 are!
✨👍
