I have The Carpenters album with this song on it. Until now, I believed it was the original. I was enthralled by both the lyrics and the music. I am grateful to learn about Klaatu's original. It blows the Carpenters version out of the water.

Terry Draper is still alive and kicking out albums now and then. He also talked about this song in a video somewhere. Besides, Carpenters, stepping out of their comfort zone made a fantastic cover.
