    One correction: it was Dick Swettenham, not Glyn Johns, who designed the Helios console. The console that Swettenham designed for Olympic Studios, before starting Helios, was the first transistor-based desk.

    Looks nice, but I'm hooked on the Amek 9099 - such a gem.

    The UAD Helios was my favorite unison plugin for plugging a guitar straight in for that ratty direct to console fuzz thing. Need to give this a try and see how it sounds with the RME's hi-z input.

    I love all of the Lindell plugins. I regularly use the 50 series (API) and 80 series (Neve). This one I don't use as much but it's easy to dial in the sounds and it's a solid channel strip. I also have Lindell's 6X-500 Preamp and you can get some nice saturation.

    I feel the lindell audio plugins are all really freaking good. Just tried there mu emulaton and it was super smooth. The 69 is so good for vintage drums.

      The Lindell SBC (the Lindell emulation of the app 2500) is my go to. I even have the official plugin from uad and I still grab the Lindell one over it

    Didn’t you know guys were Britney Spears fans 😅. Kidding. That’s where I learned the word ‘prerogative’ by the way. Pretty sure so did Bobby Brown, who had a vocabulary of 12 before he learned of it, and promptly made this song. It’s always a little weird for me, someone who grew up with software, to mix with these YUGE console plugins. But, if they gave us the individual components, it would be so much more useful; you don’t really need everything for every channel. Shame no one has thought of giving us the modules separately. 🎉 Fantastic work.

      Sometimes they do... both Waves and UAD sell separate individual components of this Helios channel strip.

    Did the Helios 760 come in the type 69 desk or was that a compressor Helios made later and Lindell/PA just add it in so the strip had a comp?
    I would be shocked if this wasn’t the case because I thought these pre 70s desks rarely ever came with in channel compression

    • @StudioLife101
      @StudioLife101  19 днів тому

      They weren't on channels...
      You'd often get a bank of 4 760 comps in the desk which you could route signals to.👍

    Have this one, and picked up the Kiive Quick strip for drums on your recommendation, but have been using the Lindell API strip on drums usually. What would influence your decision to choose one over the other on drums in different contexts -- I know, the one that sounds best, but what would you be particularly listening for?
    Binge watching your content and have been well informed and entertained -- you've saved me some money, but made me spend some too -- but perhaps more wisely! Cheers!

      @@markdineen3430 Glad you're enjoying the channel. 👍 It's different flavours really...I know SSL will get the the fastest and tightest result...API will have more warmth and work on more live sounding drums really well. Neve will really work when the recordings are very close already...wide Q settings and subtle saturation really add to the sound when it doesn't need much sculpting....you learn what works as you do more and more. 👍

      @@StudioLife101 The producer I worked with most often would bring in racked API strips for drums and Neve for my bass when tracking into, most usually, an SSL or a Soundcraft, so I just always associated API with drums. True, lots of different sounds all sound good!

    • @StudioLife101
      @StudioLife101  19 днів тому +1

      @@markdineen3430 Back in the analogue only days, I'd prefer to track on API or Neve and mix on SSL. Warm on the way in...precise in the mix...but usually those choices were made by default...bands/artists like certain studios and you use whatever is there. We're spoilt now with mixing rooms of our own for the most part.👍

      @@StudioLife101 Indeed, in the old days we'd have to get up half an hour before we went to bed to go record in a cardboard box in the middle of the road, and the engineer would beat us with broken bottles to get us to play in tune, and we were happy to do it! -- kids these days don't know how lucky they've got it! 😋

    How about some woke song quotes? 😁
    "I'm not a woman, I'm not a man, I'm something you'll never understand"
    Hint : it wasn't written in a little red corvette in 1999 and it wasn't a sign of the times.. 😁
