- The King and Queen met with veterans at a ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the World War II "D-Day" landings in Normandy.

Lovely to see King Charles and Queen Camilla give the veterans their due.

The king is remarkable in his own right as was his mother before him , he is not well but on this special occasion there he is , charming and smiling and his beautiful wife how gorgeous does she look , for all those who have ever doubted them a couple , and as a King and Queen , these few years have proved every one wrong . Her late majesty would be so proud of them both , serving just as she had done , God Save our King .

The King and Queen seemed to really enjoy their time with the veterans. So generous of them to give them so much time and give them centre stage. Lovely too to see the respect the young servicemen and women have for the veterans.

@@user-kq9vv5tj1uNot 'harder and better' but alongside. They are ALL remembered but this was at the British Normandy Memorial (which was the LAST to be erected in recent years). America has it's own memorial cemetary, and so does Canada. The D-Day invasion started from England and included soldiers, sailors and airmen - plus female nurses - from the UK, the USA, Canada and Poland. I would call it 'a great remembering of the sacrifice for the freedom of the future that we all enjoy today'. It must never be thought of as 'the past' and just assigned to the history books. The youngest male to land on the Normandy Beaches that fateful day in 1944 was a 14 year old who had stolen his older brother's Birth Certificate so he could enlist - he survived the carnage but is no longer alive today.

I am a War Baby born a few days after D-Day and I am well aware of all the sacrifices these brave men made so that we could all have our FREEDOM. The greatest generation of all. I would say: we dont appreciate how grueling it is to attend these events. dont know how they do it.
Especially for a 75 year old who's battling Cancer says everything about the King.
My Great Uncle was a paratrooper in the U.S. Army.

Heartwarming remembrance. Although our grandfathers fought on the opposite side (Kingdom of Hungary), salute to the British heroes of the war! (There is a huge anglophile community in Hungary, since the 1800s - our countries is closer than one may think.).And, long live the King!

I can't help but think of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip and how important these commemoration ceremonies would have meant to them. King Charles and Prince William made them, the UK and the Commonwealth proud.
King Charles and queen Camilla did as well as the late queen and Philip ..in fact in some ways better as they would not have been so welcoming to talk ,chatter hold their hands ..

I meant that the late Queen and Prince had lived the war experience and that from George to Elizabeth and now Charles, the generational thread of stability that the RF stands for is evident and how proud they would be.
