I’ve been waffling on these nibs forever. I’ve seen others really struggle to get them to write. But I may give it a go yet. I watched your video the other day about waterproof inks. Kakimori makes at least 2 lines of pigments inks that are waterproof. Yoseka carries one of them and sells the samples. You might like the lichen and sand castle colors. I’ve been enjoying them very much. Thank you for sharing your videos, it’s always a pleasure to watch them.
Wow, the inks sound great. And no struggle at all for me. I absolutely love it!
I’ve been wondering about these nibs and I’m impressed with the line variation. Thanks for such a comprehensive review and taking the time out to do it.💕💫✨
I am so impressed by it. Especially for masking fluid! Love you, Sara 💙
Your handwriting is beautiful. Thank you for the review. I cant wait to get mine.
Thank you!!! And I hope you love it :)
Wow! This nib looks amazing! I wonder what the difference is between the brass vs the stainless steel? Anyway, this looks like it would work quite well for me. Funny, I bought the Lamy pen with the left handed nib - I'm a lefty and a righty 🙂 I cannot hold that pen correctly in my left hand to save me. But it writes beautifully with my right hand. This nib looks like it wouldn't be too fussed if I held it in my weird left handed way. Thanks for the comprehensive review!
The brass is a bit more expressive and the stainless a bit more refined and finer line. I love them both! And how funny about the LH Lamy! I do not see a huge difference, but it's a really enjoyable pen!
I’m loving your adventures in ink and pens, thank you. I know very little, but thanks to you I’m starting to feel slightly more intelligent. Also, I’m sorry you’re stressed… Life can be incredibly hard work at times. I hope it gets less bitey for you soon.
It sure can, and still I am the luckiest person. But boy we have had a run. ❤️
I saw this in a bullet journal group and am very tempted. I have a wonderful THICK paper journal and a bunch of dip nibs (because fountain pens intimidate me and I adore Shimmer in), but I am frustrated how often I have to dip. I'd love to see how easily this changes ink - particularly blue to red and dark to light. Does it give some kind of ombre effect? How can you tell its starting to run out without it scratching? Great review!
I have not really tried that, but it would be fairly simple to dip one colour , blot, then dip the very tip in another. All nibs will create an ombre effect if you do that :) And the writing gets a bit thinner so I turn the nib and it's good for another line or two :)
Hey Kateri,
i read that brass and alkaline products dont go well together and I would assume the masking fluid falls in that category. So I am wondering how the nib is holding up in case you have continuously used the masking fluid with it. Has it affected the nib so far? Thank you for sharing your thought and I love the sketches you did in the video!
Best, Lena
Has not affected it all! I clean it right away, too.
@@kateriewing thank you for the answer. and so quick too!!
I just bought the nib and did not buy the holder because I had a box of about a dozen holders. NONE of then fit. I even went to HL and tried a speedball holder. The brass nib fell right out of the speedball holder...it was way too big. When I called St Louis, they said that the brass nibs are a bit smaller and don't fit standard holders. They have cheaper holders that do fit with the brass nib....I think they are about 9.50. I can't wait to try it.
That's crazy! It fits all three of my other holders. It does not fit my antique holder though. I can't wait for you to try it!
@@kateriewing My old holders were nearly all American Pencil Co holders....and they are old.
@@kateriewing I just got my holder yesterday....I LOVE THAT NIB. I was with a painting group when it came in the mail. So I had an audience while I played. It was so much fun.
@@dianesaulnier9772 I think you might have a new best friend in a tool :) That is how I feel!
@@kateriewing I think so, too. Have you used the stainless steel one yet? How is it different from the brass?
I want to buy this...
Hello. This is great information. I am a watercolorist and would like to include text on some of my watercolors. Could you recommend an ink that would work? I am thinking of Frida Kahlo’s painting when she included an area of informative text on her paintings. I just do not want the ink to mix with the watercolors. Any help appreciated. I am living in Mexico at this time.
I would use anything pigment based and water resistant, no dyes. Just make sure it’s a pigment based ink :)
You can also brush your watercolor across the nib to fill it for text writing with your choice of watercolor.
Ou l achetez l encre est elle speciale
I bought it from Yoseka Stationary. It is pigmented instead of dye based.
