For crazy Marillion fans, seeing this sort of video is pure joy, mainly because it is something new to absorb from your favorite band. Thank you for the time spent in digging this up out of your archives and spending the time doing the editing and the intro. I spend a considerable amount of my own diminished store of energy trying to introduce Marillion to the myriad of people who despite being lovers of music have never heard of them. There is so much our digital world has to offer these days. Too much, in fact, to the point where to find the very best, people need to be guided to it. These sort of stripped down, acoustic performances are good examples of how a decent song doesn't really need all of the extras that come with a full-fledged staging of the band, with lights, video backdrops, keyboards, and drums, but I sometimes wonder (there is another video on YT of the guys doing an impromptu performance while awaiting their flight at an airport) whether, for any newbie who might stumble upon this video while surfing the net, if they do not really show the band in the best light. It is like seeing a truly beautiful woman without make-up, bleary eyed with her hair askew, stumbling in her sweatpants and T-shirt to Starbucks for the morning's first cup of coffee. Newbies, if this intrigued you, at least a little bit, hunt for some of the full live performances of the entire band.

      So much to unpack here!
When we made his films, Steve Hogarth talked about the difference between his naked shows and full band - he described the full band (as he often does) as being like launching the space shuttle. When you strip them down to this kind of simplicity all you have left is the songs, and the songs stand on their own feet. Not the same as a full band version, sure, but still songs with heart and soul. Sometimes with more soul when stripped of all that muscle and horsepower.
All of the stuff I am sharing and going to share is out there on the DVD's we made, and more recently at least some of it is on the band's new video streaming platform (I think). My purpose for sharing it here is more personal, pride in what we did and deep and abiding affection for the music and the moments. I figure maybe a few people who have liked what i am doing with this channel will also like what i like. Not many, but the same can be said about many of the songs i have shared - including deeply personal shares about my brother's band and about bands and music that I love and wish got more attention.
That being said, I don't see my role here as being messianic in any way. If i did i would be a pitiful failure.
Recently I had a slagging match with an objectionable Nightwish fan (one of a surprisingly few instances) because he disagreed with a version of the NW song i chose to feature and seemed to think my role and obligation was to try and 'sell NW' and act as some kind of marketing for their music. I made it clear to him that I don't feel that is my role here at all. At best I hope to share a connective moment with like minded people, at very best i hope to ad some small value.
But I am not in the business of performative reaction, or pandering or even deliberate promotion. I will NOT look at a band or song i do not like or connect with, so there will be no negative here - I probably would not even do a song i don't like by a band i love - unless there was a clear take out. I'm really here to simply try and put some interesting, informative and hopefully entertaining ideas into the world.
All of which is to say, I don't expect any video i post to SELL a band to anyone - even though I am thrilled when i manage to do that. With these things, mostly, I'm simply trying to let people share a small unique thing, a delicate thing that gave and still gives me joy! I guess, if it gives anyone else joy they might look deeper, and if it does not they probaly would not find joy in a psce shuttle version any more than in a string and twine version!
      :)
Thanks again for watching and your passion.
I promise, i do actually have some Space shuttle things in the bank - two of which are among my most favorite things.
Memory of Water and king filmed in multiple venues in 1999, very, very cool things... I'll get to them soon.
      :)

Indeed, so far upwards of 12 people have watched each of them! :) :) :)
On a deep niche, not for everyone channel, this is me being super deep niche, stubbornly so.
      BUT
If you love it and a few more people do, that's all good with me.
More is coming, I think I'll do the big videos next, two quite fun big cuts of shows we filmed across multiple venues - some of my favourite work from this period...
      Glad you like it
Hope to have more for you soon
      until then, obve

@@dodgycamreacts-lyricsinabo5170 I know you said 'not for everyone channel' but at least you will know that who ever DOES watch your channel and your videos, that they are sincere lovers of what you publish and upload for us all here and genuine... I am the same as you as in the sence where if my video or even channel as a whole has made just one person happy , smile, relate or sing along to, then I am happy. I am personally very pleased I came across your channel a few months ago. I have a kind of favourate five channels that I always go back to , keep eyes out for notifications or make sure I only watch their contect when I am done with my day and able to watch it in peace because I enjoy listening/watching and yours is one of them , have a brilliant night, looking forward to any new videos when you have the time of course, Sonique x

@@RetroReminiscing If I could posts GIF here I would post the swoon GIF.
That's very kind of you to say.
And yes, I would far ratrher make a real connection with a few people that a fake one with many.
that being said, maybe I'm also just a stubborn old donkey
And, it MIGHT be fun to have one video really pop, so that people could then watch the rest and HATE them - like if I maybe did one 'performative home-alone video, made it as sticky and as on point as possible, then they see the rest and go, wait, what?!
      evil plan emerging!
Thank you again, and I do hope you keep enjoying.
I'll post up some more 'presents' next week i think, but I also just did another Nightwish that you might like and at least 12 of the Nightbase will hate! Job done!
      :)

You have a love affair with this band. And it’s strange because before I met you I had never heard of them. I’ve clearly missed out on a lot.

And yet your buddy Riley... Obviously he is the discerning one! :)
And yes, the love affair was long and deep and hard (!!!)
      And still continues...
      Move me they move me!
      Thanks for watching, brother
