As you are in a cool wind with your 'thin' Floridian blood, might I as a Canadian make a few suggestions. LAYERS. Everyone has heard of this way of dressing, starting with a base layer if you can of thinsulate long underwear, long sleeves, long legs, cotton, wool might be too scratchy for your skin under the top layers. Then a sweat suit with a pull over hoody to prevent the wind from getting under, not a zippered one, which would allow wind to blow straight through to your chest. If you can get another woollen sweater suit to put over top of the other it would be an extra layer to keep in the mini-greenhouse heat that your body creates by itself under these layers. Top it off with your foul weather jackets, works almost like a tarp over a tent while camping, keeps out moisture and the super strong wind gusts. Keep your head covered with a tight fitting cap and your feet need to be kept warm, so heavier footwear. If your feet are warm then your core doesn't need to work as hard. Starting to sweat? Remove one of the lower layers only, and see if you cool in 15-30 minutes.
great looking jackets worn by a great looking couple......can't wait for some new videos of you both snorkeling and diving in 80 degree water......safe and happy sailing ⚓🏖🏝😎
The Solomons are a nice area to sail. As a Canadian, I used to have a tuque like that one that I wore in Winter, skiing or playing with the snow, not on a sailboat in the fall... Cheers, Richard
Wonderful seeing your video of Mill Creek at Solomons Island. If you had come up the creek another quarter mile we would have seen you anchored. The cold north winds of the Chesapeake can be brutal. We have had some challenging times out there around the NAS Patuxent River Targets.
I live just off the Ches. Bay about 12 miles north of Solomons Island and have sailed the area for years. The Bay can go from a totally flat and still pond to a very scary monster with every condition in between. Solomons area is a very relaxing peaceful and picturesque place especially first thing in the morning.
If your anchor is covered in mud, leave it a few feet in the water as you sail on until its washed clean. Just don't forget about bringing it all the way up later. Banging against the hull near bow will let you know.
That looks like so much fun! My second time out learning was in wind like that. Thankfully, my teacher was a man who grew up sailing on Lake Erie. Amazing man who wouldn't let me handle the main much😂 I wonder why😉
When sailing wing on wing with a poll and a preventer, It takes time to change sheets setup if you need to give way. That's why, when WoW, you should take the main to the left and the head to the right, the opposite to what is seen in the movie. With main on the left you don't need to give way.
From northern Canada. Beau complaining about being cold, and here I am scraping antifouling at -20 C because it is finally warm enough to do boatwork. No sympathy my friends. (Although the touque made me feel a little fuzzier inside.) I can hardly wait to be as soft about weather but as hardened as you guys are at sailing!
The SB in the Ches I had my ass handed to me around windmill point. We only draw 3.8ft but spent soo much time in 4-5ft @30k. Look us up the next time you are around the Cape Fear.
@@BeauAndBrandy it’s the problem of either recutting or replacing my series of headsails. So expensive. I am however going to reach out to Seldén to get the ball-bearing track system to replace the Teflon noggles that are a pain in the arse.
Youre actually the only channel i know who does not use a rolling furling jib. Also, i really like you guys, go get that warm weather, don't stop sailing untill you see palmtree''s ;-)
Beau and Brandi sailing! I wore the t-shirt you gave me for my Ireland trip!’ Back now and enjoying your blog- love the Heidi braids Brandi- so cute! Looks like you guys are freezing- do touch miss the Caribbean now?! Hahaha 😂 hugs 🥰 your friend, Mike
@BeauAndBrandy I still enjoy your videos and adventures. A lot of channels start strong, and just fade. But the dedication you guys have for it is truly inspiring. Keep up the great work!
Hi my sweeties. Just watched your video while waiting for my flight back to FL.. Brandy you sounded like you had a cold or we’re getting one… do if you have raw honey on board take tablespoon full twice a day and hot tea… Honey’s a natural antibiotic… I feel your pain with the cold flying from Chicago back to Ft Lauderdale… can’t wait for the heat again… Love yous !!! -elsa
I would like to know if there is a better way to get south rather than the chesapeake bay or channel route. I am no sailor so im not sure if its a channel or bay, sorry for the ignorance.
Do they make a system that is mechanical for changing sails like on separate lines to the bow like 1 button per sail so theres no need to go to the bow in bad weather ?
Pretty precarious at times out there switching sails with hardly any thing to stand on. Hey whats the top speed you can safely go before is not goo for the boat? Sean
You are sailing with the main sheeted in too much for a dead run. Actually you are sailing with it over sheeted for a beam reach. You are leaving a lot of speed untapped plus making the boat much more difficult to steer. When goosewinged aim for tight leaches by using the vang/ preventer and pole downhaul & sheet.
I just have to say, I think you guy's have become quite soft. Up here in Canada the fun just gets started at 50 knots of wind. However you did learn how to keep your head warm, good job. 👍🇨🇦 Lol.
Imagine ... A Sailing channel that actually sails. And a good one at that!! ... Stay Safe & Fair Winds!! ☘
Now that is a sailing video 👍 Thanks! Florida is waiting, come on home.

We wear a toque in northern Michigan!!!
That was a crazy day on the water to be sure! You guys make it look easy 😉
Sporty sail for sure. Captain Brandy at the helm. Outstanding performance while trying to get warm. 👍👏
Hello, that anchor winch is working nice.
As always thank you for the hard work getting a video out for us ♥️
Nothing like surfing the high seas. Great video Beau and Brandy.

I was sailing today down past Thomas Point light house, gust of over 35 knots.

You guys are true sailors. Well done on doing the work to get the sails out.
Come back to the Patuxent River and the Bay when it warms up 😊
Love you guys. I'm ready for you to be warm! Safe travels ❤

Wow, please be safe out on the water it looks very rough . Safe travels 🙏 💕.
Welcome to early and late season sailing on the Bay😅👍⛵⛵⛵⛵😜
That was a busy time. I did not know Beau was a Canadian.
I've been following y'all from the beginning, gotta say bro, after a shaky start a couple year's ago, Brandi is new Captain 😂
If you haven’t passed Cape Fear yet, you should stop into Southport, NC. A little drinking town with a big fishing problem.
Thanks for all the effort to make such great content … much appreciated 👏!! Love you guys and can’t wait to see you back in the balmy Bahamas 🏝☀!!!
we REALLY appreciate this comment soooo much.
Brilllllliant sailing ⛵️ glad to see a preventer 😊

crazy how it can get CRAZY in there!
Ah, the joys of sailing the Chesapeake-so glad I now live aboard in Beaufort NC! lol.
Hace viento !
Great sail! My favorite condition, just having the boat flying and eating miles 👍👍👍😎
We’ve both got to install our roller furlings. The hanks are driving me craz…ier than I already am😅
hahaha.

Dang! Missed you guys. I live just across the river from Solomons Island. We keep our Pearson at the Navy Base
so close!
I'm with you guys. The further south the better.
Love the hat!
❤❤
I just had some cheddar chaffles with avacado, mushrooms and carmelized onions.
YUMMMM!!
Shaking my head...lol. From Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
🤣😂
Great touque 🇨🇦
Another successful trip. Was it too windy for a spinnaker?
yes it sure was.

welcome to Ontario Lake

soooo many items on that "we need" list.

coming from Annapolis, its pretty much the only way out.
Brrrrrrrrrr my thinned southern blood got cold just watching😂
👍
Over powered? You didn’t bury the rail! 😂.
oh we did, it just wasn't shown.
😊
Beau. Why didn’t you dive on your anchor to make sure it was set?
Haha.
Do they make a system that is mechanical for changing sails like on separate lines to the bow like 1 button per sail so theres no need to go to the bow in bad weather ?
Bbrrrrr girl!
Seriously! I’m not made for this weather!
Life would be much simpler with a furling jib and add a code zero.
furling jib coming soon (gotta get the sails created first)
I gather putting your spinnaker up would be overpowering the boat?
for sure in this wind.
When were you in Solomon's? Possibly just after the boat show?
Yes 😎
Time for some hot cocoa!
where did you guys get the under fabric for your bimini?
big duck canvas! lddy.no/1giia

hi Canadian! 😃 Nice selling
😀😀👍👍👍❤

our hull speed is 7 knots. we don't really like to push her past that (its rare anyways)
