The all-new G80’s ability to maximize passenger comfort and design flexibility while balancing performance and safety capability all stems from its platform design.
The G80’s rear-drive unibody structure has 6% greater tensile strength than that of the previous G80, thanks in part to increased use of high-strength steel and hot stamped parts ( 42% more hot stamped parts than previous.) They make up the A- and B-pillars, floor crossmembers as well as rocker panels and provide the highest possible strength through hot forming and quenching processes.
The roof crossmembers, transmission tunnel, front chassis extensions and parts of the rear structure are made of advanced high-strength steel, while the cowl, floor panels and rear parcel shelf are comprised of high-strength steel. As a result of this material placement and optimization strategy, the G80’s M3 platform is 6% lighter than that of the previous G80 (55 lbs less).
A newly added horizontal strut brace, die-cast aluminum front and rear shock towers, and a rear subframe benefiting from rear stays and increased bushing size, further enhance rigidity and improve NVH characteristics. Organic geometry was used during the design iteration process to leverage the efficiencies of nature and obtain the lightest and strongest possible structure.
As a result of the careful design and material choices, torsional rigidity of the new model surpasses the outgoing car by 3%. These and myriad other advancements imbue the 2021 G80 with the highest level of dynamic driving performance while maintaining the comfort, stability and safety expected of a Genesis.
    2.5L 16 Valve DOHC Turbo (2,497 cc)
Inline 4 Cylinder GDI + MPI
    Horsepower (Automatic Transmission)
    300 @ 5,800 rpm (Premium Fuel)
    Torque (lb. ft.)
    311 @ 1,650 - 4,000 rpm (Premium Fuel)
    Rear Wheel Drive
    Transmission 8 speed Automatic
The story of the G80 begins with the brand’s emblem which inspires the crest grille and Quad Lamps, the distinctive face of every Genesis.
“The All-new G80 is the centerpiece of our lineup perfectly weighing athletic and elegant characteristics. This represents the clearest interpretation yet of the Genesis brand identity,” said Sang Yup Lee, Senior Vice President, Head of Global Genesis Design. “Our goal is to offer unique, design-inspired experiences for our customers.”
On the side, the Parabolic Line, which begins at the front Quad Lamp and gradually runs lower to the rear through the top of the door, is inspired by the elegant look of several venerable classic cars. This elegant line is counter-balanced by athletic “power lines” emphasizing the strength of fender volume and the upfitted 20-inch wheels. In addition, the chrome trim beginning from behind the front wheels stretches out along at the bottom of the door, crosses the side sills and swells upwards to the rear, strengthening forward visual motion.
The rear view features a dramatic, tapered look - highlighted by a sloping decklid and rear Quad Lamps which visually link to those in front. Chrome decor at the top of the trunk stretches the full-width repeating the theme of the Genesis emblem, while the dual exhaust finishers reference the Crest Grill design.
The steering wheel and sleek, thin air vents run across the passenger compartment splitting it into the panoramic area above and the control area below. The number of hard buttons and switches was intentionally kept to a minimum, both for aesthetic purposes and ease of use.
In the panoramic area, a heads-up display, a 12.3-inch cluster and a 14.5-inch infotainment system display necessary information while driving.
The control area is equipped with an intuitive suite of interfaces: a Genesis integrated controller for HVAC controls, a rotary-operated electronic shift dial and touch-and-write infotainment system.
G80’s leading interior space has been further developed. Both headroom and legroom were increased by lowering the seating height of the second row, allowing for both more interior room and a more dramatic roofline. Completing the space, the G80 features leather seating, steering wheel surfaces, soft-touch fabrics and coatings as well as open pore wood trim finishes.

I cannot believe more people have not watched and liked this video. What a complete rundown of this car! In the real world I doubt Genesis reliability will be significantly below that of Toyota/Lexus, if indeed Genesis is below that level at all.

YES BUT CAN THEY BE RELIABLE LIKE A LEXUS? LEXUS IS STILL THE BRAND TO BEAT FOR COMFORT AND RELIABILITY NO DOUBT.

The day Hyundai Group beat Toyota's reliability, it will conquer the market.

Great, detailed review! Thank you! I'm looking at a 2021 (on line) that claims to have black leather. The pictures look more like gray. It looks like what I'm seeing in this car.
Is the leather in this car supposed to be black? Because it looks way lighter than the black I'm seeing in other Genesis G80's. Will you please clarify this? Are there 2 different types of black interiors?
    Thanks so much!

Great video and beautiful car. All those features demonstrates all the things that could be in a Lexus... they really are very conservative.

    Hi there,
Can you play a UA-cam video through your iPhone to project through to the rear screens in the G80?

    Excellent overlook of this vehicle.
I have heard that the Genesis warranty is NOT transferable upon resale to another party if still under warranty. I wonder if this is true? It's such a beautiful car & I wanted a G90 so bad, but ALL Genesis Service Department reviews on all of Yelp is nothing but complaints & horrible reviews regarding wait times, cars sitting waiting for parts & repairs, the lack of care, no call backs to customers, no loaners EVER available (like their warranty contract states) & so many other complaints in at ALL Genesis Dealership Service Departments across the USA, the list goes on & on. Genesis Dealership's Service Departments sound totally worthless & this makes the warranty basically VOID & worthless to me & makes me totally reluctant on purchasing one.
How is any warranty worth anything if they lie on the warranty contract in regards to their service and don't care about their customer base in Service Departments EVERYWHERE across the USA?
If I was to buy I'd have to take it to ANY other mechanic than a Genesis dealership service department that is worthless. It makes no sense in buying a new car. Genesis is RUINING their dealerships & making BORKEN PROMISES to customers it sounds like to me on their warranties on their vehicles because their Dealership Service Department sound totally worthless.
I'm second guessing buying a G90 for these main reasons.

I’ll still choose Toyota/Lexus, Honda over Hyundai/Genesis. Their reliability is unparalleled, and this is from a guy who has a Sonota.
One point of concern for me, not specifically to this vehicle but all vehicles with sunroofs and panoramic sunroofs. In a serious accident they shatter and a roll over accident will probably involve crushing injuries to occupants.

Nope not really, they test for those. My sister’s car had one and she rolled twice when a police officer hit her going 60 mph, luckily they got out with some bruises and scratches.
