    Just found this channel and I’m hooked. If you doing some courses I’m definitely in. I like the way you describe the sounds you hear and how they relate to the mix. Brilliant. Would love a Thornhill track remake.

    What I usually try to imitate the most about NIN is the sound of the drums. On this album it sounds very industrial, dirty and wild.
    It takes a lot of work applying effects and mixing. Reznor is a perfectionist.

    I honestly expected nothing less after seeing videos from you like recreating Blackhole by Architects. It's incredible how you're able to effortlessly find these massive mixes, and even if they aren't 100% accurate due to certain sounds that are hard to make out by ear, they still sound huge. This is no exception. Richii, as a self-taught producer myself, your channel has helped a lot with things like EQ, working with drums etc. To be fair, I'm still struggling when it comes to stuff like this, because a lot of inconsistencies end up becoming a big issue when I'm mixing my own stuff.
    I also want to point something out that you (probably) involuntarily did, in the System of A Down video, and this is something I learnt from checking out a video from Joey Sturgis Tones. When you brought in the EQ for the guitars to give them more high end bite and gave them a high shelf boost, that would've most likely been where the drum transients were, so the guitars won't easily be masked by the drums. But regardless, your stuff on this channel is just absolute class.

      Thank you!
      Just many years of trying to figure out why my music didn't sound as good as my fav bands. Pretty much self taught, but I used to watch a lot of YT content on music production etc.. For years my music didn't sound great even though I was working on it constantly. Over time I just started reaching a point where I guess I'd picked up enough tricks that I started feeling more confident with what I could create!

      @@RichiiWainwright That's so awesome and I'm grateful for this channel and that you are sharing all of this. It sounds pretty much like what I've been doing for the past 6 years or so. Although I have improved a ton I still wonder what I'm doing wrong or differently than you. I have been at it literally every single day, 8 or more hours a day for all that time and I'm at a fraction of your level. I realize the learning curve is different for everyone and I'm not so much trying to compare myself to you. But, you are at the level where I want to be and I'm just wondering what it will take for me to get there.

    • @RichiiWainwright
      @RichiiWainwright  5 днів тому

      @@michaelj.anderson1116 Well, for a start I'd say the fact you're admitting you're not where you want to be is great. I'm never where I want to be, never satisfied, always doubting myself, and I think you have to be wired that way to be a great producer.
      It does take a lot of time and a lot of experience, so you probably just need to keep going. But I guess one thing that could help is figuring out if what you're doing in those 8+ hours a day is challenging you enough. As soon as I get comfortable with any style, I move on and explore something I have no understanding of. I think that's a pretty rare thing and can set you apart as a producer if you never let yourself settle into a comfort zone. So maybe you're already doing that, or maybe not, but hopefully it helps in some way!

    Hahaha, music doesn't "want" to be in 4's. Modern listeners expect 4 because it is used so much (not a bad thing - the whole DJ industry would be F'ed without it), but there were times when all time signatures were used. When composers know the language of music, they can push the boundaries. Classical music is full of this, and a lot of modern heavy metal.

    • @RichiiWainwright
      @RichiiWainwright  5 днів тому

      I agree with everything you're saying except the first part. I never said there weren't plenty of genres using odd time signatures. But whatever, I'm not interested in arguing. Maybe someday I'll make a video about this
