- Chainsaw
With a career spanning more than 10 years, Chainsaw was one rough and tough animal -- only successfully ridden by nine cowboys.
The Brahman bull won Australia's Bull of the Year a world record eight times from 1987 to 1994 and became a legend in rodeo and bull riding circuits around Australia.
Chainsaw was not a large bull, however his power, speed and bucking style was difficult to track and predict.
Cowboys tried to study his style without much success. He was a thinking bull that changed his style and direction -- whatever it took to throw the rider to the ground.
He was especially notorious for a sideways jump with all four feet out to one side and turning back to the right -- all at the same time. The manoeuvre was almost impossible for left handed cowboys and made it difficult to anticipate his next move.
With each successful buck, Chainsaw would take a swipe at the failed cowboy and charge to the middle of the pit before doing a victory lap in front of the excited crowd.
His popularity with crowds and competitors was reflected with a minute of silence after his death at the Port Macquarie Bull Riding competition.
Chainsaw goes down as one of the greats in the rodeo world.
With a string of outstanding bulls to his credit, the name Hempenstall is quickly associated with legendary Brahman 'Chainsaw'. Universally regarded as the greatest Rodeo Bull of all time, Chainsaw was a direct product of the Hempenstall Brothers, George and Richard.
At the age of just 17, the passionate cowboy purchased arguably the most valuable asset of his Rodeo career. Chainsaw roamed around the Hempenstall's property for four years, developing into the most successful and loved bull in Australian Rodeo history.
With a career spanning over 10 years, Chainsaw would become 'Australia's Bull of the Year' on a world record eight occasions, from 1987 through to 1994. The 800kg Brahman had just nine qualified rides throughout his illustrious career.
Currently the Hempenstall brothers contract bulls for the Professional Bull Riders Association (PBR), while distributing portable rodeo arena's throughout the world. The PBR Association is an American organisation with franchises in Australia, Brazil, Mexico and Canada. The Hempenstall brothers provided bulls for the PBR World Cup, held on the Gold Coast earlier this year.
Although the bull riding industry is a part time occupation, George is adamant that the rodeo industry remains his passion. "I don't know what I'd do without my bulls."
There is a general consensus among many that bull-riding is cruel, a feeling that the livestock carrier finds hard to fathom. "When you get on their backs they come to life," George said. "They know what their job is. If they don't want to buck, they won't. For example, we used to have a bull named Desperado, if we didn't load him on the truck for the rodeo night, he'd follow us to the edge of the property and bellow."
I just love the way Chainsaw does a "round of honour" each time he throws a rider.
I love chainsaw... the true legend of australian rodeo
I find myself watching again
It’s so moving RIP CHAINSAW
Best footage of Chainsaw- legend of the ring
I still remember riding him he was so good
My cousin said this bull loved the crowd more than the men who tried to ride him.
He was one of those bulls who knew how to act for the crowd . He would give the riders enough without hurting them. He had the talent to keep most riders from getting time.
He always did a victory lap😊

The song "Chainsaw" in the video was performed by Reg Poole, but it was written by Tom McIvor, a mate of Reg and a talented Rodeo Rider, Singer and Songwriter.

My great pop sold him to the owners of him facts
Do you know if a family called the Corbetts ever owned him?
It was just a bull, a steer, for Christ's sake. It was just a poor dumb critter, and there is no getting away from that. But, on the other hand, he did have a sense of his human-imposed task, he did have an idea that humans appreciated his routines, and he had since developed a commitment to losing the riders, and parading afterwards for the applause, and he did enjoy it. There is no doubt whatsoever about that. That is not just whimsical thought. He had no intention of taking out a clown or a rider or anyone else in the course of it, at least as an immediate priority.
H.
Why did they always hit him in the balls with a cattle prod too get him too buck right before they open the gate
Hit him in the balls? Sure if his balls are on his back. Prods are no longer used in rodeo .
A guy zapped Chainsaw with an electric prod just as Chainsaw was leaving the chute, that's not only animal cruelty that's cheating, of course the bull will be rank if it's been electrocuted.
I know the man who owned chainsaw
George Hempenstall from Yass in NSW
Pretty good bull but I've seen better. Plus I notice they are shocking him everytime he leaves the gate
Hey Australia stop trying to be country western
Fuck off dickhead
You realise Australia is one of the most western cultures on the planet, right?
@Mr. Derp thank you!
You must be American. There's a world beyond your borders and we all survive beautifully without you. Just so you know, your laws and customs don't apply here.
Spoken like a true yank. Now run along, your supersized maccas meal is ready 🤡
