  • Martin and Peter went to northern Norway last summer aiming for a Finnmark grand slam, i.e. to catch grayling, arctic char, brown trout and salmon. They didn't catch the biggest fish you've ever seen but they certainly had a good time. And they also caught two other species. Maybe you can identify them :-)

    This video is a work of art to be seen just before going to bed. Absolutely most beautiful. The landscape, the rivers, the fish...the music. A Nirvana really, capable of curing tired nerves...

    I saw a sea trout and a pike in the footage so I guess it's grand slam plus 2. Well done! A very excellent video by the way.

    Great video! Some nice fishing indeed. The seatrout in the end is the same species as the brown trout. It just decided to take on an anadromous lifestyle by going to the sea.

      We usually go there the first weeks of July, before the water level sinks too much after the snow melt. At that time the waters are practically unfished for the season and you rarelly see any other fishermen (or people at all for that matter). For the big hatches of mayflies you should probably wait a week or two more but then the water level might be too low and there are for sure hell of a lot more mosquitos :-) Good luck with your planning. Cheers /Krister

      Tack ska du ha Martin. Inte så svårt å göra bra video med så snygga fiskare :-) Då hoppas vi på lite "big mamas" på torsdag. Det blir troligen dock inget flygfoto denna gång pga avsaknad gimbal. Vi får eventuellt komplettera med det senare. Peter kör säkert några extra rundor för den sakens skull :-) Vi ses och hörs /Krister

      Thanks Benjamin. That's a good idea. I'll think about it. We only do fly fishing so we need to find some good flies for perch. We are going to fish and film for pike later this week. Let's see how that goes first :-) Cheers /Krister

    My hat is off to you fellows. And how nice to see you enjoying your char sashimi and pan seared salmon. My only question is how do you deal with those mosquitos? Is there some kind of secret Swedish repellant you use? Cheers!

    • @CarpeDiemFlyfishing
      @CarpeDiemFlyfishing  10 років тому +1

      Thanks David. Glad you like our adventure :-) I'll have to say both the char and the salmon tasted delicious. Big difference from what you get in the city. About the mosquitos, no secret weapon I'm afraid. We use rather strong repellent that we buy from Australia because it's not allowed to sell it in Sweden (too strong stuff). Though the mosquitos are annoying from time to time it's really not that bad. And I guess it's healthy with a blood change now and then :-) Cheers /Krister, Martin & Peter

    And also as you was fishing for grayling. Which rods you used

    • @CarpeDiemFlyfishing
      @CarpeDiemFlyfishing  8 років тому

      +Jaron Markstahler Hi Jaron. When we fish for grayling we normally use a weight 4 rod. For trout, especially when using dry flies, we are going for the same rod. Sometimes we put a streamer on and then we use a weight 5 or 6 rod. Cheers /Krister

      +Fede Zapata Hi Fede. Glad you like the video. We eat the char "sashimi" style. Slices of raw fish, wasabi, soya and pickled ginger. Very nice :) To be really sure to avoid any nasty parasites it's recommended to freeze the fish before eating but that's kind of hard out in the wild. And the fish tastes a lot better. Cheers from Sweden /Krister, Martin & Peter
