A crossover is used to separate your low frequency from the mids and high. This is useful when you are using a subwoofer. That will take the work off your tops. Equaliser on the other hand is used for shaping the tonal frequency of the sound. It's completely different from crossover. Although in terms of working with frequency, they have similarities.
