That's my 2nd favorite song by Randy Meisner. No. 1 is Take It To the Limit Live at the Capital Centre 1977. He would get extremely long standing ovations every time he sang it.
At 56, I’ve owned this song on 8 track, cassette, vinyl album, CD, DVD (The History of the Eagles), and I tunes. Now, I’m going to “Try to Love Again” irl.
Randy Meisner is singing lead on this one and it is soooo good. The Eagles are a great band and Randy made it special with his beautiful voice. I really loved the band when it was the original 4. Founding members Glenn Frey (guitars, vocals), Don Henley (drums, vocals), Bernie Leadon (guitars, vocals), and Randy Meisner (bass guitar, vocals). Randy was a sweetheart.
The Eagles are a potent drug my friend, as you're discovering! There are so many that you have yet to experience, "Desperado" will make you cry, "Take it to the Limit" will make you ache, and "Wasted Time" will make you think. I'll enjoy watching your reaction to all of them eventually!! You're the BEST!!!!!
Randy Meisner's voice was truly special. It truly was the Eagle's crown. Gorgeous. The lyrics poetic and the music is lush, feelings being brought forth so vulnerable. Incredible.
Every song on the Hotel California are Top Notch Songs. This is the only LP that I never skipped over a song that did not touch my heart and soul. Greatest Record ever made.
Their original bassist and founding member Randy Meisner is singing this one. He has a beautiful high tenor. Your cheating yourself if you don't listen to him sing Take It To The Limit.
The whole album is aces. This album is one of the best selling albums of all time. I'm still wearing this album out decades later. Wasted Time and Last Resort (Henley) and Pretty Maids All In A Row (Walsh) are excellent deep cuts here. Victim Of Love is song that got airplay and it depicts the 70s club scene perfectly.
Nice catch to notice the bass line! Randy (RIP) was a popular session bassist for many well-known musicians. When he auditioned for Poco, he beat both Greg Allman (Allman Brothers) and Timothy B Schmit for the part. He was known for playing the bass notes just right, to punctuate the drama/vibes in the songs,
Randy Meisner, the bassist, is sing lead on this one. All of the band members join in for the harmonies, and they can all sing lead. One of my favorites of theirs is I Wish You Peace off the One of these Nights album. Very poetic.
OMG Syed! Thank you so much for playing this one! It reminded me how long it's been since I've listened to this album. This is my absolute favorite track! I don't listen to music like I used to, since I am going deaf. :(
It's funny, the Bass Player had the highest pitched voice in the band. This is Randy Meisner (Bass) on vocals, you should check out "Take it to the Limit" which is probably their biggest hit that Meisner was lead vocalist on.
Thank you (!) I'm so glad the host corrected himself about the overdubs later, Randy will always be my favorite and nobody BUT Randy could harmonize in that register
I just checked the Ratings and it’s confirmed for now the Eagles Greatest hits 197i-1975 is 38 million plus. ,Michael Jackson “thriller is 2 nd place and Hotel California is 3 rd place selling album of all time i tip my Hat to the Eaglles so mant time they are really incredible.
Good choice of a song to review. Try and Love Again isn't one of their hits or better known songs, but it is one of my personal favorites. Such a beautiful melody, bringing out the best in the Eagles sound.
Its more than two people harmonizing. Its also Glenn Frye , Don Henley , and Joe Walsh with Randy Meisner. Later because Randy Meisner didnt like being in front on stage , Glenn Fryefired him and hired Timothy B. Schmidt. Timothy and Randy both came from the group Poco. All the Eagles members were fantastic singers AND songwriters. Is it no wonder they were also big with solo hits of their own?
This song of Randy’s should have been a standard on their concert list. Always loved it. Here’s three other hardly recognised gems of Randy’s “Hearts On Fire” plus two others with Poco, “Rough Edges” and “Nothing to Hide”
Syed, I think you've got the feel of the desert on a warm night, nothing but the headlights of your car ahead and billions of stars above and this album playing to speed you on your way across the hundreds of miles to the next town. Yes, a little something to smoke helps the trip. Hope that someday you visit the southwest to take that drive; but, stay away from the freeways. Beautiful reaction.
Listen to: Try And Love Again from the Hotel California album. Randy's voice is mes morizing and it's a beautiful song. It says Randy wrote it. Randy Meisner was the best of them all.
BOOM.. "lyrics you can fill with your own experiences." The key to great writing, and the strongest argument against music videos IMO - your own imagery helps you to bond with a song. Another great Syed analysis.
one of my favorite songs from this album. i always thought this would have been the closing track on a good 'b' 70s movies: a pair of young guys roll into a corrupt small town and clean it up with some help from the locals: the authorities arrive, clean up the mess, and arrest the bad guys; the guys get into their car with a couple fine local young ladies theyve fallen in love with; they drive off into the sunset, fade to black, and this song starts to play as the credits roll...
I’m a huge Eagles fan and I had totally freaking forgot about this song on that album but I will be down loading that song it is such a beautiful song I love the musicianship of this song these guys are such great musicians I have seen them twice and they never disappoint.
Thanks for the Eagles reactions! You should think about going back a little earlier into their catalogue and listen to “Desperado.” Great writing and a great performance by Don Henley.
one of my mothers favorite Eagles songs.. gone 6 yrs next sunday 2/12. I was raised loosely and under a cloud of smoke, but had the best music from many genres in my ears all the time... and I heard a metric shit-ton of eagles
This is my first visit to your channel and you may be my favorite. And dude... I'm old so I've watched a lot of UA-cam and been to probably between 3 and 5 hundred concerts... The 80s were kind of a blur . Don Henley is my favorite lyricist Periodt. You will get to an eagles song eventually that you can't tell there are two people singing but you will think it's one of two people and can't decide which. I also watched your Pink Floyd video and I swear ... May I never remember another lyric in my life if I'm wrong.... The Song Venom by skz(stray kids) ... Combines great flows,... And the most insane beats I have ever heard. Very unconventional use of sounds...I've called them the pink Floyd of rap since I first heard them. They also have switch ups like Rush. A pink Floyd and rush rap song lol I'm not asking for a reaction video ... Go.. listen now! Lol. Thank me later
Syed's channel is the best thing going on right now. Wide range of music and always insightful interpretation of the lyrics & musical arrangements. I'm really digging the Eagles series because, well...they're the Eagles. Randy Meisner wrote some awesome songs for the group and love how his higher register added so much to the harmonies. Timothy B. Schmit was a good replacement, but I always missed Randy after he left the group. Anxious to see Syed get around to 'Victim of Love' 'Life in the Fast Lane' and 'Desperado', to name a few. Also, the Dylan exploration is outstanding, it's like meeting an old friend I knew well and learning about him all over again. Best reaction? The comparison of Led Zeppelin and Tool version of 'No Quarter'. Nice to see another fan of the channel.
@@ziggymarlowe5654 I agree completely. Lol... I agree emphatically with the vast majority of your comments. You have superb taste in music. I saw Timothy B Schmidt live in a small theater back in 2008 ish He told great stories and had nothing but good things to say about Randy. They were both members of the band Poco as well. He sounded just as good as ever.
@@jennieohk6792 I thought I was the only person who remembers Poco! Lol, 'Magnolia' is my favorite, but 'Crazy Eyes' is a near second. Schmit was always gracious about Meisner, so much respect for that for him as a human being. Nice to have someone to chat with who shares similar taste in music.
Randy is singing his own 2 part harmony...he's the only member of the band that could sing that high. They other guys are there on the 4 part harmonies. Randy was a rare Lyric Tenor. The one thing you missed about the Eagles was they rehearsed so much because they required of themselves that the live performance sounded exactly like the studio recording. They were famous for this detail.
They have a less popular songs but are extremely well done. Those shoes is a fun song just popped to mind. The 1977 Eagle concert posted on You tube is my favorite live recording (I was just 15 years old back then) My favorite because of the special touches that made it special.. even more than the hell freezes over but saw then in 1995 in person---the no. 1 concert I ever seen.
There isn't a bad Randy Meisner Eagles song, 1972-1977. Everyone knows Take it to The Limit. Most people will never hear the others, but do yourself a favor and listen to Take the Devil, Midnight Flyer, Certain Kind of Fool, Is it True?, etc.
Have you reacted to 'Seven Bridges Road'? They all sing, and the harmony is unreal! Also, The Eagles were a band before they were 'The Eagles'. They were the backup band for Linda Ronstadt in the 70s.
I'm a huge Eagles fan, so there are a number of fantastic songs that others might consider deep cuts. One of my favorite deep cuts is "Good Day In Hell". I'm a sucker for clever lyrics...
So glad you hit this one, a hidden gem..on this album, Randy Miesner the bassist takes vocals..he also did Take it to the limit! 👍😁
Along with The Last Resort, 2 of my favorites
Could not agree more. An absolute gem of a tune. And the chorus is awesome.
@@ChuckHackney atta boy Chuck. Just restored my faith in good music.✌️..lol.
💯
One of my absolute fave Eagles tunes, their harmonies are on full display here, especially at the ending. Otherwordly.
There is nothing that isn't perfect about this song. "I can't tell you why" is also very beautiful.
Vibes? Word.
That's my 2nd favorite song by Randy Meisner. No. 1 is Take It To the Limit Live at the Capital Centre 1977. He would get extremely long standing ovations every time he sang it.

This track is timeless and Randy's voice is truly haunting. ❤️

Great song by Randy Meisner. You have to listen to “Take It to the Limit,” which he co-wrote with Frey and Henley and also sang lead on.
He was in Poco too! Came back in 89 and sang a few more!
One of my absolute favorite Eagles tunes. There is something special when they harmonize gonna try, gonna try, gonna try! ❤❤❤❤

If I’m not mistaken, Randy Meisner sang the lead AND the backing vocals. So it’s just one guy singing 3 part harmony.

Absolutely my favorite Eagles song!
They should've let Randy sing lead vocals more.
Yep! Agreed.
Absolutely
He didn’t want to. Frey wanted him to sing Take it to the Limit more often and he quit the band instead.
He quit the band because Frey bullied him. @@kevinwalker9924
Couldn't agree more, Eagles wrote incredible lyrics, lyrics that people remember for a lifetime.
"Desperado" is another Eagles song carrying such a distinct vibe that it immediately feels, tastes, and smells like 1975 again.
Randy Meisner. The hidden weapon of Eagles. They treated him terribly and kicked him out of the band. He's had a tragic story.
You are so right. If you just read the lyrics, you might do an eye roll. The delivery is everything!!
You got to do Pretty Maids All In A Row. This whole album warrants a re-listen every year. Try and Love is probably my favorite of all Eagle's songs
Awh so happy! One of my most favorite Eagles songs. Right next to I can't tell you why and after the thrill is gone.

Calling the Eagles "Americana" is valid. They sounds like America in the 70's.
