I know a UC LA communications major who got a job at a major credit card company right after graduation. After a couple of years on the job she did a MBA at UC Berkeley and started her own company and has been extremely successful.
@@Belenshares as much as the degree helps, what you do with your time in college is just as important. Anyone can get a degree, but not everyone can be successful with it
As a CS college student, getting a CS degree is definitely not necessary. But I’m an international student in the US and coming through college was my only way to get work authorization to actually get a job in the US, so I’d say the degree is worth it in my case hahaha
I regret having gone to college for a parks and rec degree because it led me to jobs in the parks (even though it was linear) I was looked down on a lot by management and patrons. So my suggestion is DO NOT major in that (some parks that you could apply to may not require a degree). At least my student loan debt is all paid off, thanks mostly to my grandparents and a couple of grants that helped me thru. And now I work a job where I'm a lot more valued and respected, albeit you don't really need a college degree for it. But, TBF when I was interviewed for this job, the hiring manager said he was impressed by my rich education and work experience and told me I was "good to go." Furthermore, when I got one of my first jobs after college, my grandfather foretold me that there will be many twists and turns and that many opportunities will arise in the future. He was certainly a very wise man. I just tend to feel that I could've almost easily went straight to join the workforce after HS and/or gone to trade school and it would've saved me time and years of my life.
I think there are more tactful ways of approaching the woke culture argument, but Im unsure as to how making jokes at the expense of those with developmental disabilities fits into any discussion.
I was thinking about getting an MS in Computer Science and Information Systems, simply for being able to pivot. Im working on my BS in Computer Science currently. However, I want that wider selection, with the uncertainity of automation displacement. If software jobs ever went out the door in 30 years, I will just switch roles.
Hey, I don't think you've ever covered any Aviation related degrees. It would be awesome if you made a video about degrees related directly to aviation; getting your piloting licenses. (specifically professional flight).
My nephew get into Biology and his goals are genetic engineering field. I'm trying to dissuade him of this path, because to work with g. engineering is necessary a doctorate degree. If he tried at least another field with more opportunities like bioengineering or chemical engineering may was less traumatic if he couldn't be admitted in a doctorate, for example.
He's just going to learn his own way. No one likes being told what they are doing is wrong. And if he finds out you were right, then he may resent you because he'll take it as you rubbing it in his face. That's why it's so complicated to talk and avoid conflict. But that's why you prepare yourself to accept the consequences whether you want to or not. Intentions always have to be for the best.
The simple thing I tell most of the kids I hear with such specific goals is to look at companies in those fields job boards and look at entry jobs to get in and the overall goal they are trying to attain. It’s a lot more of who u know and not what you know on the internal side of things within a company
I actually don't go with the 'education is a low paying job' idea. Schools in my area (middle of Indiana) start at between $48k and $57k a year to start, and you get paid summers off, winter break off, week-long vacations in fall and spring, etc. Is the pay the same as an advance IT degree? No, but then how much time a year are you going to get off with that job, and how many 12 hour days are you going to pull?
Basically anything with 'studies' in it, medicine if you're purely in it for the money, a lot of the STEM degrees if you're not great to excellent at maths & customisable degrees lol
That would depend on what kind of Engineering degree you're talking about. While CS is undeniably more high paying, some engineering degrees such as Civil provides more job security especially if you get a PE.
They're both good. It just depends on what you'd rather do. That being said, it's possible to get into an IT job without a computer science degree, whereas it's not possible to get an engineering job without a degree.
So for #8 you are saying your #1 favorite degree of all time computer science is actually a big mistake. I completely agree since getting a CS job is about passing the interview which only requires specific info taught in one class from that degree which is better learned online.
Learning online only limits you to the skills available online. It’s the people who has MBAs and PH.Ds and degrees who create the things that make learning stuff online available.
Now he said IT is not worth it a while back he made a video saying computer science is worth it. This guy opinion is always changing can’t stick to one.
3:01 dude the way your talking The hormones are the spot that controls the most Many animals emenh physical parts will change at the interdiction of a different hormone And humans do grow breast if given esteragan Testrorne will enhance an adams apple, make facial hair grow The hormones are what control most of the difference between male and females your also forgetting about intersex Also the main reason they’re split up is because of a false belief that men have all the advantage over women when men have a slight general advantage over women. Just wondering do you think only men were hunters because why in a time when food and time were so important would they assign based on gender.
They do that with the assumption that you’ll go on to get a master’s degree and PhD, but they neglect to tell you a bachelor’s degree in biology likely won’t get you a job in the thing you’re interested in. If you can get into biotech, though, I’d say that’s the way to go, but yeah, university advisors do a disservice to students with the way they try and steer them into certain career paths without giving them the whole story.
While sciences are the weakest STEM category, a science degree, any science, can put you in a variety of careers. I have an environmental science degree and my internship was with health inspectors (30 hrs of science college credits as a pre req outside of all the training and testing). My first job was a consultant in the oil and gas field (coworkers ranged from geologists to biologists to animal science majors). My current job is groundwater monitoring (again, wide range of science backgrounds). Pay scale for me in these positions is 40k then 60k and now 70k, projected to be $100k in 5 years. The biggest issue I find with finding high paying jobs is being able and WILLING to move to the job. Being picky doesn't pay and that's where I've seen the most struggle.
Do you still feel it’s possible to pay off pharmacy school loans quickly if you did undergrad pre-reqs at a community college and attend an in-state pharmacy school? I want to pursue industry pharmacy but am afraid of the saturation due to lots of people leaving retail pharmacy jobs
You can definitely plan it out and pay off the loans quickly for sure. And without getting too deep in the details, I recommend going into other parts of pharmacy besides retail. Check out "The Happy Pharm D" for more information on what pharmacy careers to go into based on your specific situation.
@@ShaneHummus I’ve heard of them and it seems that a lot of the more desirable industry or hospital positions are very saturated and hard to get. Hesitant to spend money on a PharmD degree if I won’t be able to get an industry pharmacy job and get stuck hating my life in retail & paying off loans
Thank you for this video! Is a Bachelor in Biomedical Science (not a Bachelor in biological and biomedical science degree) the same as Biology in your opinion (when talking about the issues you addressed in the video about it) such as job prospects being very low with a bachelors degree and it being oversaturated? What science degree would you recommend for a student who would like to get into the field of medical research (preferably with a bachelors if possible as starters)? Since my budget is tight I was deciding between a computer science degree to earn well at the start and then go for biomedical sciences down my career or a biomedical science degree initially (medical research is my passion, I have no desire to go to medical school but to continue with masters and PhD later down the line). Advice would be greatly appreciated!
If you’re interested in both biology and computer science, I’d look into biotechnology/biomedical engineering. There’s a lot of exciting stuff happening in the biotech industry right now!

Criminal justice degree is by far the best degree to get if you want to work for federal job, I know it doesn't require specific degree, but rather someone have a CRJ degree knowing what they are learning rather than someone with a liberal art degree. I have been through it.
@Gh Eck When people have to resort to the flashy “…phobic” terms then there’s no point arguing with anybody. It’s a totally fair opinion to say how the objectivity of science is under threat by politics, and by this I mean the deconstruction of what it means to be a biological female.
@@samwalsh8299 Science and politics have ALWAYS collided. It should not but it does. that doesn't mean that you have to fear people who are different than you.
@@TriangleTime Science and politics have always collided, but those who were against science were always on the wrong side of history. This isn’t a unique situation we have. I fully accept transgender people and understand some people suffer from gender dysphoria, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that it is unfair to let transgender females compete against biological females because of biological advantages transgender females have. So please don’t make this situation appear to be something it is not.
I would say it depends on your desired career path. The more important thing in either is your connections. Do you know someone who knows someone that works somewhere important?

I’m thinking about going into marketing but I honestly only like the writing advertising research side and not the analysis side so that would mean I really just like advertising. My school has a journalism degree with an advertising emphasis and I like the classes but I’m worried a journalism degree won’t be as valuable. Should I just grit my teeth and do marketing or take a risk on journalism/advertising?
Hello Shane! Would you talk a little bit about gaming degrees? There is a lot of 4 years gaming design/production/programming that seems interesting! Thanks!
I'm thinking of doing digital marketing and analytics (try to get the money) first, then when I'm financially secure enough i want to try and change my field and take an online course for something more artsy (ui/ux maybe)
Hey, I’m a few classes away from an associates in computer information systems. My school stopped the classes and the ones I need I would have to wait for a year to start taking. I'd love if you make video "majors that make most billionaires per graduate" meaning MBA has 10% of billionaires with 50k graduates, but economics has 7% of billionaires with 20k graduates so it's going to be higher on the list (it was just an example)
In Australia, sociologists work in our environmental consultancies so there is demand for them. Our environmental impact assessments require analysis of social impacts and demographics. So it all depends where youre located and the demands of the country your in. Best for people to research skill shortages etc. Also creative writing degrees, people end up working in communication or marketing roles. For example our government employees thousands of communication specialists across the country to craft customer responses, media statements and speeches. That is fine if you just want a job but if your after the creative bit, that's where is gets harder to find a job. Regarding our medical degrees, our universities require ungraduate degrees within the health or science field. However it is easier to get into university in Australia in comparison to USA where the population is very large and then of course a lot competition exists. So its all a bit of a mish mash and hard to generalise these types of things.
Honestly this is one of my harder issues with Shane. I try to take note of his advice but things are so much more different in other countries that even the general trends like computer science good and biology bad can be unclear at times.
Hey Shane I’m trying to be an instructional designer. However the job qualification keep asking for communications degree. Should I go for the degree or keep on building my portfolio?
I used to really like your videos, a lot. Now I Love them. You're becoming an even better UA-camr and you helped me settle on MIS, so I really appreciate the common sense guidance that I didn't get from my teachers and seemingly "educated" people.

I'm majoring in Bio right now since my school doesn't have PT as a major itself. I am going on to my senior year. I plan on going to PT school after i graduate but after watching this i feel like it wasn't the best decision. What should I do now ?
If i do MIS (major) in bachelor and sales/marketing (minor) , What can i or what should i Study in master's?? Can i study MBA ? Or i can do any in master field, related to business degree?? Please clear me !!😢
I appreciate you Shane but I still would like to take IT college due: 1.) I need guidance 2.) It's too much for me to swallow 3.) Experience college life 4.) It's awkward to tell my family I won't take college even though I do better academically than them
I have a buddy who has a bachelors in IT. The fact he didn’t have any experience in IT nor internships made him join the military. If you’re gonna do IT, find a specialty or role you want to involve yourself in and learn using online resources. College is great for the reasons you mentioned, however do not solely rely on getting a degree in a field that has so many aspects to it.
Helping people double up for that brother. Selfless. Can I be honest I don't want to go to college right , I'm thinking of 22 chemistry and microbiology. Reason to broad to get me many opportunities maybe chemica engineering or medicine or data science or materialist scientist. Not my favorite part when everyone is preaching about tech degrees though biology may have confuse genders technology certainly teaches you being human is a sin, and eats your brain. Back to my point I wanna make money right now before college to easily pay off by debt and have it easy after college. Now to criticing, writing shouldn't be judged by normal people because they don't have the skill of analyzing excellent literature. Not everyone can judge Mona Lisa like an expert real artist would know I am pissed honestly about that real art for artist
In my case I will get an associates in liberal arts general, only because before I took different classes and I kept switching majors. But now the remaining classes I have left I’m taking are perquisites to go for cybersecurity for a BA Degree. But I’m looking for a help desk job at the same time.

I’m graduating with a Biz. Info Systems degree and have a job in IT auditing at a big consulting company paying me 95k a year. ✌️and my internship before they hired me full time paid 11k for 7 weeks in summer.
If money is your main motivation and you don’t have rich parents… you should probably listen to this video 😂
Nice!
I know a UC LA communications major who got a job at a major credit card company right after graduation. After a couple of years on the job she did a MBA at UC Berkeley and started her own company and has been extremely successful.
Cool.
@@Belenshares as much as the degree helps, what you do with your time in college is just as important. Anyone can get a degree, but not everyone can be successful with it
college doesn't have to be expensive if you stick to a local community college and transfer to a city uni or state school
Breaking Bad scared me from getting an education degree long ago👀
Time to cook m*th then
As a CS college student, getting a CS degree is definitely not necessary. But I’m an international student in the US and coming through college was my only way to get work authorization to actually get a job in the US, so I’d say the degree is worth it in my case hahaha
Getting a cs degree fore better job security?
Actually, a MASTER'S in CS is not necessary.
Thank you Shane
Im going into veterinary school, planning to go into biochemistry to stand out a bit.
Was one of your earliest subs, but saying "autistically" like it's just another adverb is wrong. You just lost yourself a sub.
Nobody cares
I think there are more tactful ways of approaching the woke culture argument, but Im unsure as to how making jokes at the expense of those with developmental disabilities fits into any discussion.
@@rylancolombi5587 You don’t but I do.
3:30 facts bro like teachers think that people really care about their beliefs
My nephew get into Biology and his goals are genetic engineering field. I'm trying to dissuade him of this path, because to work with g. engineering is necessary a doctorate degree. If he tried at least another field with more opportunities like bioengineering or chemical engineering may was less traumatic if he couldn't be admitted in a doctorate, for example.
Study a PhD in China
I appreciate you so much, tell it to us straight!
I’m a secondary education English major 📖📝
8:08 ☹ wish i had known this before starting a 4 year degree in IT. Now i am not an american so maybe this video isn't relevant for me but still..
This was a great video
Was just waiting for him to name my degree and crap all over it...and it happened. So thanks for never disappointing...
So you are saying my Lesbian Dance Theory degree is not going to aide me in getting a job with a 6 digit salary.
Basically anything with 'studies' in it, medicine if you're purely in it for the money, a lot of the STEM degrees if you're not great to excellent at maths & customisable degrees lol
Kinda sad that college doesn’t even know the difference between gender and sexuality
Is computer science degree still better than engineering degree?
That would depend on what kind of Engineering degree you're talking about.
While CS is undeniably more high paying, some engineering degrees such as Civil provides more job security especially if you get a PE.
They're both good. It just depends on what you'd rather do. That being said, it's possible to get into an IT job without a computer science degree, whereas it's not possible to get an engineering job without a degree.
So for #8 you are saying your #1 favorite degree of all time computer science is actually a big mistake. I completely agree since getting a CS job is about passing the interview which only requires specific info taught in one class from that degree which is better learned online.
It's a nuanced subject that I went over in the video "Is a computer science degree actually worth it"
Learning online only limits you to the skills available online. It’s the people who has MBAs and PH.Ds and degrees who create the things that make learning stuff online available.
Now he said IT is not worth it a while back he made a video saying computer science is worth it. This guy opinion is always changing can’t stick to one.
Thanqs Shane you saved my life
3:01 dude the way your talking
The hormones are the spot that controls the most
Many animals emenh physical parts will change at the interdiction of a different hormone
And humans do grow breast if given esteragan
Testrorne will enhance an adams apple, make facial hair grow
The hormones are what control most of the difference between male and females your also forgetting about intersex
Also the main reason they’re split up is because of a false belief that men have all the advantage over women when men have a slight general advantage over women. Just wondering do you think only men were hunters because why in a time when food and time were so important would they assign based on gender.
Wish I found your videos years ago. My advisor screwed me by telling me to change my major to biology.
There’s a lot of exciting stuff happening in the biotech industry right now!
biomedical science is ok; public health is ok too
you have a lot of leeway in clinical data analytics / clinical research

Criminal justice degree is by far the best degree to get if you want to work for federal job, I know it doesn't require specific degree, but rather someone have a CRJ degree knowing what they are learning rather than someone with a liberal art degree. I have been through it.
Some of these teachers need to learn that reality doesn’t conform to their opinions. It tramples them.
I do agree with keeping personal politics out of education. However, why use your love for science as an excuse to demean trans folks?
This dude is throwing some serious smoke today...
And tell me how he “demeaned” transgender people? By saying that biological men and women shouldn’t compete against each other in sports?
Do you think a finance degree mixed with a coding boot camp is good? Or should I just stick to finance or computer science?
You can learn both for free online.
From this I can tell u never have looked at a banking job a degree with prestige will def be needed to land a finance job.
I would say it depends on your desired career path. The more important thing in either is your connections. Do you know someone who knows someone that works somewhere important?
Im now in a Computer Science subject and im feeling so dumb. Why do I study this shit?
Also studied that last year didn’t enjoy it bcoz i was js thrown in the deep end with games i had to make in 1st year 1 semester already💔 now im doin engineering and i do c sharp. I’m now good at coding.. what I’m js saying is pls research something you know that interesting and it must not be easy but be worth studying at the end🫡 Engineering is the best degree in my opinion
I honestly really love biology. I love science especially like the microbes and cells.
I dont like math, (hate it) or English or anything, so no engineering. Im wondering what else i could do or any specific biology topics that are more useful. I don't want to get screwed over working in McDonald's and tens of thousands in debt
This channel is golden, thank you shane
My college has a Romance language minor so I would not be surprised if gender studies doesn’t give enough jobs.
so I guess the problem is with colleges and universities. why do they provide these kinds of majors, if there is no demand in the job market? especially state universities

My school has a journalism degree with an advertising emphasis and I like the classes but I’m worried a journalism degree won’t be as valuable. Should I just grit my teeth and do marketing or take a risk on journalism/advertising?
for instance you dont need collage degree to get in IT or software

Hey, I’m a few classes away from an associates in computer information systems. My school stopped the classes and the ones I need I would have to wait for a year to start taking. I have it knowledge, been around computers forever and even built and configured my own desktop. Can you help me find a help desk it job? Just thought I’d ask.
Shane can you do a video on forensic science degrees not seen one in your videos at all!pleaseeee
I'd love if you make video "majors that make most billionaires per graduate" meaning MBA has 10% of billionaires with 50k graduates, but economics has 7% of billionaires with 20k graduates so it's going to be higher on the list (it was just an example)
How about biotechnology?
@@Origin820dont listen to him 100%. Your demand course actually depends on where do you live.

Hey, shane can you do a video on best certifications like tech ones like comptia A+ etc?
In here Sri Lanka we can get a degree without paying ❤
