  • This video demonstrates and explains how an electron diffraction tube works for A Level Physics.
Your school may have one of these - this can be used to see the diffraction of electrons. Just don't drop it - they're really fragile and expensive!
    Thanks for watching,
    Lewis

Perfect timing! Literally did this for my independent study today.

Tech A.M I just taught this to my Year 12s, so I thought I may as well film the equipment set up.

Thanks for the video. Can you please provide a link to the Diffraction Tube and High Voltage Power Supply?

Thanks this is a massive help, so can the graphite be replaced by a metal foil?

What would happen to the diameter of the diffraction pattern if the screen was moved further away from the source?

To reach such a conclusion one has to show how a photon diffraction works in the first place.

Hi, was wondering if you'd knew if we needed to know the things in the spec that are under "AT i", or "opportunities for development of skills". For example, it says "Demonstration of the range of alpha particles using a cloud chamber, spark counter or Geiger counter". Does this mean we need to know it for our exam?

Is that also called a cathode ray tube?

It was called that way when there was no electron concept. Some still call it to this day.

Why does the diameter of the rings decrease as the accelerating p.d. is increased?

This was a ppq ryt. So basically increasing it will cause velocity to increase. Use de broglie wave length. Momentum decreases. So wavelength increases
Diameter of rings are representing wave lengths
