Well shit, I’m going to be a driver this season. Any advice for a newbie? I consider myself a good/safe driver with experience on mountain roads/off roading.
Trees and widow makers can humble any Wildland FF real quick but yet it seems to be an every year thing we loose someone to.
Widowmakers are one of the biggest threats I've faced. And rattlers of course. We encountered four this last season.

Random falling trees and Widowmakers were always my biggest concern because the exposure duration exceeds the other risk Ronni lists.

How about the Higgins ridge rescue in 61?
That was the most incredible heroic rescue I’ve ever heard of.

The 30 mile run one was in 1988 not in 2001
I Was on standby for the 30 mile fire and it really hit home.
Are snake bites a real problem?
From time to time they happen but with medical care the way it is these days it’s not that big of an issue.
