What is a "ceramic pencil"? Does anyone know if it's called something different in USA? Arigato

A ceramic pencil is a type of fabric marker for drawing patterns and stitch lengths onto fabric. It's called a ceramic pencil in the USA. I recommend either bohin or sewline brands, you'll find them here: indigoniche.com/product-category/sashiko/sashiko-accessories/

Hi Manti, the white colour on the fabric is created by the transfer paper. You can find it at any craft store. The brand is Chaco Paper.

Will this work on a chambray shirt? Its a light blue denim shirt. I have been trying to trace with multiple different colors of I'm guessing the waxy kind of tracing paper and it is not working well enough to see the designs. Not even good enough to write over the tracing lines with a fabric pen.

It’s hard to trace designs onto some fabrics - however you can do it from the reverse side of the fabric- but you also then have to do the stitching from the reverse side as well. :)
