I think the thing that killed this movie was the fact that it came out during the same year as a bunch of high ticket titles. It came out the same year as Harry Potter, Thor, Fast Five, Captain America, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and Xmen First class and a few others.

i saw this movie in the theatres, everyone was cheering in the fights, it was like watching a real boxing match live, amazing energy in the theater.

The Atom/Zeus fight mirrors the first fight between Apollo Creed and Rocky Balboa pretty perfectly, right down to the decision...always thought that was a nice touch.
Even the knockdown at the last round, up to the way Zeus fell. Also Zeus' name is a reference to Apollo, both are named after Greek gods.

This is one of those movies you watch on a whim at home and then kick yourself for not going and seeing it in a theater with an audience
This movie is so underrated. I think it was an awesome movie.
The director Shawn Levy did an amazing job giving this movie so much heart and you don't even expect it. Some of his other movies The Adam Project and Free Guy (both starring Ryan Reynolds) are other good movies he's done that don't have any business having as much heart as they do.
One of my top 2 movies behind Pacific Rim. I remember my dad tearing up in the theater over the father/son bonding moments, he couldn’t handle it. Films with robots really allow for the most robust experiences.
I really enjoy this movie. Beyond the robot boxer angle, the basic estranged father/son story isn't anything new, but it is done very well. A suggestion for another enjoyable film set around the boxing ring that I'd suggest is 1992's Diggstown, starring Lou Gosset Jr. and James Woods.
Diggstown is one of the most underrated movies of all time...🔥🔥🔥
The father son gimmick reminds of the 80s Stallone flick Over The Top except arm wrestling instead of robots
I just realized that the guy controlling the robot (fighting Noisy Boy) is Garret Warren. Garrett was the stunt coordinator on the Battle Angel set. Someone on set asked if he lost his eye doing stunts and he said no, it was a failed assassination attempt. I looked it up and found out it was true! I think it was Joe Pesci that hired the assassin or one of their wives. I think he was also the bar tender in Battle Angel, I forget. I was not on set that day :p
A bit of background on Warren's character here. He plays Artemis Becker, a guy who first started out in a small machine shop and despises the WRB due to it's corruption behind the scenes. In his view, the fairest fight is one that's unbound by rules, where grit will put you in your place. With that philosophy, he built Midas to be tough enough to tank punishment and the hallmarks to use every move in the book, legal or otherwise, to his advantage. For that, Becker was credited for being the godfather of Underworld boxing, and Midas the undisputed champion.
Based on the short story, Steel, by Richard Matheson, which was then turned into an episode of The Twilight Zone.
Sugar Ray Leonard was the boxing trainer/co-ordinator on the film!!!
I love this movie and that more people are reacting to it. I first watched this back in 2011 shortly after it came out and it's been a favorite of mine ever since. This movie and A Knight's Tale are undoubtedly my top 2 favorite movies of all time. They're just wholesome fun.
Went to see this in theaters, the whole theater was cheering, was an amazing experience, not just a movie. An experience.
This movie is great! One you can put on anytime when you just want something entertaining to watch.

This movie is so underrated it's pretty crazy to think it came out over a decade ago but it still holds up. It is for sure a rollercoaster of emotions I never thought a robot fighting movie would have me feeling anything other than pure excitement and joy to see robots fighting but it didn't work out like that

Actually really liked this movie. Always wished there was a sequel to this film. I also liked the theme song of this film, like when Adam started to win again or when he was being trained by the dad.

It's true that despite Zues's owners are not nice people, but it does make sense why Zues won. He dominated the first 4 rounds. He knocked down Atom like 4 times. Atom only had the advantage in like the last 2 minutes of the match. If a person won 4 arm wrestling contests against someone, and then the other person almost beat them in the 5th contest, would you say that they should win the whole contest? I'm actually really happy that Atom "won" the way he did, as it's far more realistic than him actually defeating Zues in a fight. BTW love this video and I subbed. You are a great channel.

Zeus won the fight because it's pointed through all rounds, and Zeus was winning majority of the rounds, from what we saw Zeus knocked Atom downed 3 times (I think) and Zeus only 1, so Zeus wins. But Atom deserved the win, making real steel history, a junkyard bot beat a high quality million dollar robot, Atom is the people's champion!

Well.. Zeus won because boxing is scored by round and zues….was strong and won more rounds…yes if the fight went on Atom would win….but zeus scored more points over all..this is how floyd mayweather wins he outscores his oppenent every round and wins
