    1959: a jazzy time for autos! It is a cool era for me for the fun of driving a small car fast, and the car looking good all the time.

    I hadn’t thought of all the different things about a car made for racing as opposed to one for every day driving. This episode was quite the education in that regard.

    As a car crazy young boy in the late 60’s and early 70’s., I was so excited when a member of my family’s church would drive a red Zagato double bubble to church on Sunday morning. The car would also see track time at the nearby Bridgehampton Race Circuit. It was a great time and place to be a car crazy kid.

      Absolutely! Unfortunately, being younger, I missed most of the era that the cars in the collection date from. I do tend to prefer the cars of the 50's through the 70's, as they came from an era of innovation, and diversity where most more modern cars just feel the same. I do have another significantly rarer race car in the collection that raced to podium wins at Watkins Glen and Bridgehampton in 1953-1954. Its definitely a cool car, but pretty obscure from a small British Manufacturer. It would make a very cool episode but probably in a couple of seasons when the channel is more established.

    A friend of mine used to have a Fiat 850 coupe. He drove it with over ear headphones to be able to listen to the music. I don´t know how safe it was. :-)

    God I love the design of these cars ❤. I think the rear as well as the double bubble roof really sets it off perfectly imo. I would think racing these amongst more powerful/less nimble cars would have been akin to racing an original Mini which meant loads of fun 😊

      It’s so distinctive and would be a ton of fun on a track day.

    • @ahaugland1
      @ahaugland1 3 місяці тому

      It would be a lot of fun to drive at speed on a track, but without a Mini or other small displacement car to race against, the only thing I'd be able to do is race against my own lap times, which isn't as much fun. I have thought it would be fun to take it to a local autocross, however, which could be a blast, especially if I can keep the momentum up! Unfortunately, locally no one is racing anything with truly small displacement in vintage, so there really isn't a good group to run with.

      There are 21 Fiats, 10 Abarths, and 8 Zagato bodied cars in the collection and they don't all intersect, so there's definitely more to see at some point in the future if those are your primary interests, but there's a lot of other very cool cars as well! We're trying to mix up the range of cars in the collection rather than focusing on anything specific so it may be a while before we get around to another but I definitely want to do episodes on more of them. The hard part will be deciding which ones to do first!

      There are 14 Alfas in the collection, two of which are Zagato bodies, so there should be lots of good content in that direction as well, not counting several other Italian cars!

    OMG, no rollbar padding?!? Someone's going to crack their skull during a whiplash moment.

    • @ahaugland1
      @ahaugland1 3 місяці тому

      To be honest with where the rollbar is it would take one heck of a whiplash for me to hit it with my head, especially with a street driven car. If I had it on the track, however, I would certainly add padding to it, but at least locally, for the vintage racing I do with the various organizations that run them, I'd have to rebuild it into a full cage as well, add a fuel cell, fire suppression, etc., so I'm reluctant to do so.

    I loved your episodes right from the beginning. But I have to say, you just keep getting better and better! Your personality, presentation and production make this one of my favorite car shows. As I've mentioned before, I know what goes into making a show like this and it's so fun to watch. I've always liked little sports cars and the "double bubble" has always been a favorite. Yours is beautiful with that Aston paint color and the racing history is the cherry on top. I am a little scared of the front radiator so low to the ground. Driving a car like this, or a Lotus 7 like I drive, you really have to change your mindset of straddling some object in the road. I forgot one day and tried going over an unexpected something the size of a brick; very loud bang! Fortunately I got only a dent in my oil pan instead of a hole. Lesson learned! Thank you for another great episode and highlighting a car many people aren't familiar with.

    • @Everyday2Exotic
      @Everyday2Exotic  3 місяці тому +2

      Oh, lucky it was just a dent! The radiator definitely sits very low, but it makes sense on a racetrack. Just not great for everyday driving!

    • @ahaugland1
      @ahaugland1 3 місяці тому +1

      I'm glad you've been enjoying it and comments like this make it all worthwhile! The radiator location is definitely a reason for concern and the radiator on our double bubble has seen better days, though it currently still holds pressure. There are reproduction radiators available, though expensive. We also do have a Lotus Seven Series 2 in the collection and are hoping to film it some time soon, though we have some somewhat elaborate plans for that episode which will take a it of time to put together!

      @@ahaugland1 Wow. Look forward to seeing that one. I've had 3 Lotus Sevens and one Caterham. My current car is a Series 2 with some Series 3 upgrades. I've owned it three times!😀

    • @Everyday2Exotic

      With 200 cars, it might take a while!

    • @ahaugland1
      @ahaugland1 3 місяці тому +1

      There are currently exactly 200 cars in the collection. This is the 12th episode, so that leaves 188 cars to go. At the current rate, it will take 564 more weeks to get through them all, so the answer is theoretically late April 2035? Assuming that we don't add any more cars between now and then, that is. That said, the collection is split between six different buildings, and some cars are either in active restoration or awaiting restoration. The vast majority, however, are running, driving cars,. As a result, it would be tricky to do a full walkthrough of the collection. We've been working on trying to get the website (www.hauglandcollection.com) moving forward again, as the intent of it is to be a virtual tour of the collection, but due to a number of issues, including moving the turntable to the new studio, and sorting out a redesign of the site overall, we haven't updated it for several months. there are several cars up but there's a lot that are still missing.
