- Today I bring you the complete story behind Raphtalia's tragic past. Elements of it were shown in episode 15, but here it is as told through the side story called "The Flag On The Kids Meal".

This was my favorite Shield Hero video to make yet. I put a lot of effort into making this into a visually engaging story rather than what I usually do by just stating skipped details.

if only they took the anime a little slower and didn't cut out these important pieces that add so much more to the world than simply 'continuing the story'

@@luckystar3641 it could have been worse, but it's pretty obvious that the producers were more focused on moving the story forward, than adding to the intrigue of the world (though they did a pretty good job at both)
when the anime gets a second season, im hoping they slow the pace down just 20 percent
This channel added more to her back story and made her a more interesting character
This channel's great content from the source is the contrast of how bad they portray the anime.
If they do go for a second season they'll really need to slow down the pace considering what happens to wake up next.

he saw her looking at the other kid with his meal and ordered that for her then he ordered the cheapest meal for "himself"
later when she grows up(or few ep later) she also deamnds the same meal as him and no more kids meal afterwards
Naofumi always ordered the cheapest food because after his betrayal by Mynes hand he couldn't taste anything anymore anyway. He did buy her the kids meal which in theory could be cheaper but in the anime, the quality looks a little better and the portion size doesn't seem to be smaller like one would expect.
This actually brought me to tears.

Raph REALLY needs some more scenes like her fight with the racist knight and her getting drunk. Some really badass scenes . Feel like filo is getting too much spotlight
Agreed. And Naofumi needs a male partymember. No hate, eveyone in his party are awesome, but he does need one. Doesn't have to ba a permanent member, he could just hang around for a couple episodes.

Raphtalia is honestly one of the best and most enjoyable written characters I've seen in a long time. From where she starts, to where she ends (for all you novel readers).
Raphtalia is “Best girl”. The Rising of the Shield Hero is an awesome anime. Other than that, cool:).

Not gonna lie, The episode with her back story was the only other time I cried. The first one being episode four where she pretty much saves Naofumi from going insane with hatred.

Sonething feels off here... o.O Oh btw, isn't Raphtalia a Tanuki? It's a little bit different than a raccoon and the hair/fur colors, tails and ears would be more fitting to a tanuki and I thought they "translated" her (in german as well btw.) to raccoon because it would be more relatable to western audience. But I instantly saw a damn cute, and later after she's grown a beautiful young Tanuki-Girl in her. I guess it's a matter of taste but she's far, far away from being ugly. In my opinion, her design is quite beautiful and well done overall.

The first time I watched it I cried, the second time too.
It's the small clips on youtube and videos like this that surprise me when I still cry.
When I first watched this anime I couldn't believe how all the episode made me feel such strong emotions such as hate and grief.
Truly one of my favourite animes ever!

I would honestly like a Rising of The Shield Hero: Raphtalia's Tale OVA. I think it would be a nice kick in the gut and a great way to bridge the gap to a second season (hopefully we get one).

Shield hero season 2 might happen the maker of the anime said if the series is still supported like it is now that he would do season 2
I know the manga and light novel spin off isn't over, but I already want another manga that covers the next generation with Naofumi's friends from that world being all grown up and with Melty as a young woman who rules as the new queen. I really just want a new generation where all four heroes are likable except the one.
That was cool. Raphtalia definitely is more than just a harem cliche' that people associate her as. Awesome work on the presentation you did her to fill in what we didn't know, she definitely has grown and is a great character overall. Now with the series finished. I appreciated the way it ended, hopefully we'll be treated to a video of yours that tells us how that changed with your view of how Raphtalia tells Naofumi of her fear for when he leaves and the play out of that.
I thought of another character that has a similar story to Raphtalia's listening to this. Yona from Yona of The Dawn. They both loved and lost their parents, they both wherr cased away from home, they both had someone to keep them sage, and they both become strong women with the help of friends.

I finished all the current eps of shield hero yesterday.And my favorite part was when Naofumi finally took in Rapthalia.It felt so touching seeing Naofumi taking care of Rapthalia and watching how a mentally unstable young girl become happy brings a joy in my heart.But when the part Naofumi "lost" to the spear hero I was so enraged and i felt my emotions bursting inside of me.But when Rapthalia came to say the words "I am your sword and I will follow you through flame and brimstone (sorry for mistakes but this is what I remember in the subs)".This seriously made me cry and it truly touched my heart.And im just so happy that Rapthalia was able to be blessed after through all that shit she went through and seeing that fat guy get crushed by that dragon has made me so satisfied.This is why Rapthalia will always be one of my favorite characters in fiction.
Anime adaptation is fairly faithful, about 85% so far. The LN definitely is the way to go for the full story.
I've only recently found your channel and have caught up on the shield hero content finally and I love the quality of your videos. This being my last and favorite video because like you said, the visuals went well with the story being told. You also have a knack for story telling because you don't just state A then B then C but rather the characters feelings which I am sure are paraphrased from the source material. You speak simply, clearly and at a nice pace. There are other channels with anime content where I find myself slowing down the playback speed to 95% or even 90% because they would speak too fast throughout the video. AWESOME WORK!

Raphtalia’s tragic past brings tears to my eyes, even when I was reading the manga, watching the Anime episode, and now watching this video. It's not just the rise of the Shield hero this show is about, its also her rise too. I'm about to read the first volume of the Light Novel, I dread it when I reach the volume that includes this side story, its gonna make me tear up again, I know it. (Tear up, not cry. I don't cry easily, this is me trying to preserve what little pride I have left lol.)
