Sitting in my chevy express right now as mine just broke. Thank you for this because I didn't know how in the world I could fix it myself, but you've shown me that it's fairly easy.
Had to do this YEARS ago on my 2004 Express van. After watching your video I remembered it wasn’t necessary to remove the doghouse. Welp, I off to replace the module on my 2017 van. Thanks for the post. 🍻🖖
I have been having this same problem for over a year. I could hit the dash and it would start working but eventually it wouldn't. Could not find how to remove the dash until your video and wanted to thank you for your video and good explanation.
I've had two of these van and those damn things always break both of the ones I have owned a 2012 it broke the 2019 that only has 50,000 miles and I'm driving right now it just broke hence why I'm watching this video... thank you sir for posting
Thank you so much I am getting ready to tackle this myself & your video very helpful. I've been driving around the country for a month waiting for part to come in. It wasn't bad while moving but any time I had to sit long was horrible. I haul freight. Again thank you. I did watch another which the guy demonstrated but not as detailed, he did recommend putting vehicle in neutral so handle was out of the way, make sure park brake is on.
I got a Chevy Express. I'm going to have to do mine. Thank you very much. I was a great video. I'll be watching this one again. I'll be doing it shortly. Thank you very much. 👍👍🙂🇨🇦
Want to thank you Brother! Wasn't scared of this job. By my situation is mid work week with temps in upper 20s and lower 30s. So I need to fix it fast! By knowing what tools I need and what to expect is a huge advantage! Fan switch is what causing MY trouble and likely on the rig in the video as well. 1st I kept the fan running with a matchbook to shim the switch. then the knob broke off after a few weeks and shorted again. I was able to shove a small screw driver in switch and buy a couple more days. Now NO HEAT! But I have the part now. Should be able to slam it in with what I learned from this video... Thx Man!
2012 GMC Savana 2500 Cargo Van - Same Problem : blower won't come on until I knock hard on the HVAC dash control knobs. Even after I replaced the AC/Heater fan blower resister located in the engine compartments R side fire wall. The problem is the HVAC in dash Control unit like you said. Maby they are lemons ro the wire corrosion you scraped off. I wish I knew befor I change it. Thanks for teaching us the class Sir.
Good job, looks like you did it one-handed. I was going to take my truck to the dealer because I have an extended warranty, but with a $200.00 deductable I will get the control and do it myself. I can do it faster than driving to the dealer and back.
I did it in about 45 minutes, counting hunting for the right side bolt under the steering wheel, which was not there, likely due to the alarm system guys losing it, fortunately I had one in my shop. Only exception is My 2020 does not have a bolt on the right side holding the control in, it hooks on the right side and there is a bolt on the left side. Hardest part of the job is unhooking all of the wiring plugs without breaking something.
I have to change mine also..!! Had to wait a bit because I have the heated mirrors so there’s an extra button on the assembly ..!!! Gm makes good money with their planned obsolescence ..!!! They could fix the issue they know what fails but why do that ..!!!!!
One word of advice if doing this and reading the comments. DO NOT ATTEMPT IF EXTREMELY COLD. Even hit it with a heat gun if possible. I tried to remove it frozen and wound up with several pieces 😅😂of
So on mine (2020) the mode selector (far right) does not have any positive stops. Been like this since new. It will also give your hand a workout. Are we all experiencing the same issue? Can’t believe it’s still a vacuum operated control 🙄
@@diyjon9346 I replaced the control unit a few months ago. The replacement part wasn’t much better. Definitely needs an easy touch. My latest problem is the aux port on the radio. I guess the soldering was substandard, so the left channel is intermittent. 🤦♂️
Where did you get the part? I have replaced this in our van last year and it's going out again Ours does not click through turning the knobs like yours.
Very clear to me. My blower speed controll doesnt work on 2017 chevy cargo 3500. Looks like it is identical to yours. What is part number/link to place to buy it?
Yup my 2016 chevrolet express 3500 Duramax diesel just did the same thing ..!!! The fan control stopped working ..!!!! I jerry rigged it to work until the new part was in.!!!! My part wasn’t the normal one cause I have an extra button for the heated mirrors ..!!
@@mallorymcguire833 it’s not the knob ..!!! It’s the core behind it that always let’s go on these. Gm knows about this flaw but they make too much money with the replacement parts ..!!

Thanks for sharing. There were only a couple of videos I could find, but yours actually worked. About 50 mins start to finish for me.

Mine's a 2018, also broke, first the knob broke, replaced the knob, the new replacement knob doesn't fit the post, so broke the post.
2018 90k, 3rd knob on the right has been messing with me… now this morning it wouldn’t go to defrost….. thanks for showing how easy this should be!

Some places in video, you are very hard to understand and lighting is bad. Otherwise, thanks for doing the video, at least you made one.

Crazy how they haven't upgraded the system! We have the issues in all our vans
