    This is impressive. I study at a fine art academy and we are taught to go from big to small. This means you plot out the overall shape of the head, add in shadows then work your way down to details. Your method is excellent and seems much faster. Good job.

    You’re TALENT. I have found myself getting better but go through so many botched drawings to get to one I’m proud of. Shading scares me because I usually mess it up at that point. I just can’t seem to find a rhythm to the lines that doesn’t make it seem like a messy mash up. Drawing on white paper is also harder I find for rendering than toned paper. Keep up the great work 👏🏼

    I consider myself a good portrait artist but always struggle mapping out the face. The shading/detail not a problem, how you guys can do this freehand is unbelievable. I have to grid out the face and measure the distances of the eyes, mouth ears etc so painstakingly slow. And even then doesn't always work

    • @ArtofWeiHo
      @ArtofWeiHo  10 років тому +3

      The head is such a difficult thing to draw, and shading it is extremely difficult, at least for me. If you're doing portraits, have you consider just tracing it? I did some portraits before and I find that people don't really care how you did it. They just want to see your techniques and your expression on the drawing.

    • @oldboy562
      @oldboy562 10 років тому +2

      WeiWorks I brought some tracing paper yesterday, simply traced the outline and features then taped it to the drawing paper. Then roughly drawing the outline whilst checking every now and again to see if it lines up. Pretty affective and has saved me a couple of hrs! Once the features are complete I simply start the detail, and just use the tracing paper as a reference guide. Thanks again Wei!

    lol I am very glad with my progress. I am only 11 years old and I have almost gotten the shading down. I am still working on it and my symmetry. I am almost at the level in this example. I just wish I could afford more sophisticated drawing supplies. lol! everyone thinks I have a bright future with my drawing.

    • @ArtofWeiHo
      @ArtofWeiHo  10 років тому

      Makinzie Hilscher That's great. You can always post it on my facebook page "Art of Wei." As for supplies, it's not expensive. All you need is a 2b and a 4b, that should cost you about $2 total=). You can always just use a regular HB pencil from. It just won't be as dark. But don't let a little thing like that deter you from drawing.

    Keep it up, that's a great way of making tutorials, you take things slowly and don't speed up so that we can learn directly from what we see in real time

    It's impressive how fast you drew it.

    • @ArtofWeiHo
      @ArtofWeiHo  10 років тому

      I'm glad you still think it's fast, because I slow down a lot when I know the camera is on=). It makes me nervous and I think too much about each stroke. And trying to narrate it at the same time doesn't help either=).

      WeiWorks LOL - indeed. One word... "Malèna" Italian movie... watch... ;) Stunning. Yet sophisticated and understated. She's the next Mrs dougieladd as long as she learns how to make pies instead of pouting and looking beautiful all the time, that can get a bit boring :) :) Sorry, I think I've lost it now. :)

    Very very good job! I'm going to practice my shading now-- I always thought looking at a real life moving person was difficult but I found taking a picture and sketching was soooo much easier! If you haven't already-- would it be possible if you can do a eye tutorial?
