I have a passion for drawing portraits. This video really gives me some insight on how I can improve my skills on drawing hair realistically. I've been doing this stuff since I was a sophomore in high school and I'm always trying to find ways to experiment and improve every time I do a drawing. I use an ebony pencil and blending stumps to do my work - blending stumps are your BEST FRIEND when doing a drawing because the shades come out clean and you're able to include minute details in the work. I always take pride in the small details and seeing the look on the person's face when I show them the finished work. Thank you for your demonstration on this video.
Setting up lined proportions prior to starting a drawing always help with the acuracy of the image even if you still need practice with shading which comes to you the more you draw. Great tutorial.

I really just want to thank you so much for this video - I’m going into my second year of high school and taking Drawing and Painting lll. My teacher instructed me to work on my proportions and is very hard on all of us to do so and it seems I’m the only one whose proportions aren’t up to par. However after seeing the guidelines it makes total sense and I sent in a piece of work to him and he loved it! So thank you for saving me from multiple gray hairs!! ❤️🩹
Thank you Emma, I have liked and subscribed. I will be following your tutorials as I really want to get into drawing. I sketch a little but realise after watching this, that I am far too heavy handed, and haven't been starting with the lighter shades as you suggest, consequently my sketches end up looking too heavy and rather dull. I so want to be able to draw like you, so I shall be looking at your videos in more depth. Thank you so much for taking the time to do these videos, but for people like you I would have no chance of improving my skills as art classes are too expensive for me.
Very nice, awesome, realistic, like an actual person looking at me, like the drawing is actually alive with a soul. Great good for which I am extremely grateful for... I thank you very much.
Wow, the final product looks like a photograph. Super realistic and very beautiful. I guess one would need the right tools for a drawing like this, pencils, rubber so on... How long did it take you in real time from start to finish?
For those who have trouble sketching the face in the first place, try colouring the back of the printed reference picture with chalk, then put it on anther piece of paper and go over the outlines of the picture with any kind of pen. By doing so, the chalk from the backside will transfer onto the other paper and you can just sketch over the chalk lines with a pencil.
thank you so much. I'm an amateur, and I appreciate your thorough explanation. I really enjoy listening to your accent. I myself am from a country in the Pacific Islands.

Excellent, excellent excellent! Very generous of you to freely show us your techniques, I've learned a lot, thank you. I'd love to see a portrait of an older person.
I believe everyone can do it like you.
This is the perfect picture. It's been 8 months since I did it as a hobby of painting. Please come to my channel and evaluate. like & subscribe👍🏻
I've been hearing & hearing "use a grid" for decades but never tried it. This is the first time it has seemed "do-able" to me! Thank you so much for the kick-start! Your work is absolutely beautiful.
Glad it was helpful! Thank you so much ☺️
Sooo stunning!! I love this! I am also an artist but I struggle badly with drawing faces 😢 The pic sometimes comes out looking like someone else or something in a horror film! I try though!!! Thanks for the tutorial ☺️
Same here. Drawing a female face is as mysterious to me as the real female.
That’s great 😃
Wow!!! So good
Thank you so much for giving me the confidence to break the ice in drawing too many people are just too reluctant to even begin a sketch. 👏👏👏
That was just beautiful, I was amazed how good it came out.
I really appreciate how you still reply to new comments. 👍🏻
Very realistic! Thank you so much Emmy!
BRuh my drawing will be much easier now, because my auntie requested a sketch of her newborn, AND HE DOESNT HAVE HAIR YESSSS
Same lol

😂😂😂 hairs are difficult tho😭😭😭
@@RiyaSingh-hs6ll das why iss easy
Hahahaha
I cant even draw a straight line
Lulu Bobier why am I rofl
Thats why the ruler was invented
@@lolliepop5734 ruler was never meant to draw straight lines, it was made for measuring something
Jake Staines *Both* can be used for that purpose.
That is your mistake, you don't have to draw a staight line, you have to sketch it all along with tiny straight lines
This looks so real. I want to draw a portrait of my love just like this ❤
You are amazing! I used to do this back in school.. I m gonna try this again since i am at home due to Covid... I hope i still have it.
Wonderful teacher.Beautiful artist. Thank you!!
Man I wish I had talent and skill like this. It's so beautiful.
Thank you EMMA👏🏿👏🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿 for sharing i know i can paint and draw but watching u inspires me to know how to go about doing it
Plz give me ur whatsapp no
Wow. Stunning. Loved this and ejoyed watching this masterpiece come to life.
Very nice, awesome, realistic, like an actual person looking at me, like the drawing is actually alive with a soul. Great good for which I am extremely grateful for... I thank you very much.
This is probably the best instructional video I have ever seen. It immediately made me want to practice. Thank you Emmy. It was absolutely brilliant.

Thank you so much for your tutorial and motivation 💖 I've learned a lot~
I'd always struggles drawing the whole face.
Your work is beautiful Emma! Thank you for the great demonstrations.
'You are not a copy machine' makes me feel so much better 💗
Wow, the final product looks like a photograph. Super realistic and very beautiful. I guess one would need the right tools for a drawing like this, pencils, rubber so on... How long did it take you in real time from start to finish?
Wow! I love your art. And it is very useful for a drawing fan. Thanks for sharing it with us!
Stunning! Absolutely stunning. You have a gift and should be seriously proud of yourself. Thank you for the advice!
Thank you so much
For those who have trouble sketching the face in the first place, try colouring the back of the printed reference picture with chalk, then put it on anther piece of paper and go over the outlines of the picture with any kind of pen.
Totally inspiring Emmy!!! Your advice is top class, for a beginner like me. Love your work👍🏻
you are an amazing artist! It looks so real, as if it could jump off the page.
Thank you!
This is really helpful, I've always struggled with shading so thank you so much for this
I absolutely love her videos...soft and relaxing voice but a True Artisan !! She has tremendous power...🎨🎭
Thank you so much
It is my first time watching your vids and so far I've learned a lot. I'm looking forward for more of your tutorial vids💖
You know, for this being a beginner, its both a complicated picture as well as a great tutorial. You have to know how to draw basic shapes and a little bit of other things, but its pretty comprehensive. Thanks
Your works are amazing!✨ Its inspires me.. I was motivated to portrait drawing and I'm still learning on your video tutorials. I hope my skills will be improved soon. Thank you ♥️.
Im hats-off you beginning from plotting grid lines so straight just by freehand strokes! 👍👌🥰
Everything was going really well untill my pen touched the paper...
Same
I can totally feel you
Should have used a pencil anyway
Hahahahaha you are hilarious 😂🤣
I don't even have that many pencils, I just have a monggol 2
Edit: I'll try anyways
Woah I thought this was my comment, but it was weird because I've never seen this video before. That was weird lol

Браво!Вы одна и единственная кто непотерял геометрии лица при изображении головы данного ракурса.У вас объемоное зрение,что дано немногим и поэтому вы так хорошо чувствуюте свет и тень.Я восхищаюсь Вашим талантом.
Thank you ☺️
"For beginners" this is for people who are really good at drawing
Emily: Don't worry about making an exact copy, you are not a copy machine.
Copy machines: Don't worry about getting every single detail, perfected..... you are not Emily Kalia.
But seriously, this is so insanely good, I can't even explain it. My goodness, you're gifted.
i've never liked to draw faces till recently.....i really want to improve so i would definitely try your technique. this is so beautiful

So greatt..
no matter how hard u try, learn, n practice.. u can't compare the result with person who had a talent as a gift from God..
So i found how a printer works ... 😁😁
Love the way u draw with instructions ... 💙
This is a very interesting to watch. 👍🏿
Hello your cat is cute♡
This picture is look live..good job♥️♥️👄
I agree. She did a great job.
Tbh I m so grateful of u for this amazing tutorial♥️♥️♥️
I'm not learning with graphite pencils but colour pencils. I'm actually so much into portraits, I can draw each part of the face partially well but when it comes to the whole face, I screw up! And thats the fear! I just want it to look at least 90% like the original one and the most horrible thing is the right proportion between each part but thanks to u now I know where I was mistakening!
Beautiful ❤️🙌🏻.I always love those beautiful and perfect eyes you draw in your drawings
Thanks so much Rajendra
This actually help thx for making this
I love how she made the face come to life!
Absolutely amazing skill. I will like to learn this.
My problem is---I don't know how to draw.
You gotta practice! I know, it's redundant but it really takes you places!
@@aa-ir6si Thanks! I have actually been practicing and gotten a lot better!
@BeetleBUMxX Cool, I will surely check it out
You don’t know how to draw? You know to draw all you need is a pen and paper if you can’t draw a circle or a dot u can’t draw
