I have been researching the Purdue Cheerleading program. During that effort I found a photo of a Pete in ~ 1945 with the cheerleaders at a game.- WELL before the current official Pete history.

He is the official mascot of the athletic department.
Purdue's football team unfortunately hasn't won a national championship, ever. Not since they began playoff games in 1936. Time to "Boiler up!!"
