We bought ours in the fall of 22 and it was $220 at that time. Now it's half that especially if you get it used off of Amazon.
I would contact Nesco and see if you can get your handle replaced.
I bought another inner pot so that I can do successive batches of canning because it only holds 4 quarts. I've also used it to pressure cook bone broth so I could can it.
Thats a great tip about canning leftovers!

One winter (1969-70) we were dirt poor (I was 10 yrs old) and we lived through a Montana winter on 100 pounds of potatoes we got from a friend. Thank God there are so many ways to cook a potato! LOL!

I LOVE, love, love the RADA peelers and knives - - best on the market. I have the Nesco and have only used it once - (new) taters are next as I got 20 lbs. Don't know how I hadn't seen your channel before -- also have a similar Hoosier in my basement (no room up here) Looking forward to your other videos.

Hi. Thanks for the video. It's Aug. 20, 2024, and I just got my Nesco delivered two days ago. I, only, paid $113.99 for it on Amazon. I think it's a big sale.

Thank you so much for showing how to use the electric canner. I received one for Christmas and I have used it one time because it stifled the water out of my jars. So I have been nervous about using it until I watched you do it. Enjoyed watching you can.

You csn make 'water yeast' from a potato, and the water from boiling potatos does wonders in bread.

This was wonderful to watch. Thanks so much for all the detailed info. Im excited to try potatoes! I’m currently shopping for a Nesco. I can’t physically handle a large canner anymore. Fingers crossed we find a good sale. New subbie. Hello from San Diego California (but not for long…lol).

Ask a question before you put it in the big cooker. Do you tighten up the ring or do you leave it a little bit loose?

    • @wrightfamilyhomestead
      @wrightfamilyhomestead  26 днів тому

The ring on the jars? Finger tight.
I say give it a hug, but not too snug. Thanks for watching!

Regarding the All American canner and the weight-I have put mine on a string (not through my needed 10# spot) and tied to the handle loosely. After all the years I've been using the All American I've only had to replace the string once. Just a suggestion to anyone interested.

Thanks for sharing. My nanny would say save the water for bread. As a kid sometimes I think she would just open a jar of potatoes to make rolls. 😂

And btw, I very recently purchased a Nesco and absolutely love it as a back up to my All American. Empty nesters here so it is nice to can leftovers. We are traveling very soon and I just pressure canned 3 pints of homemade split pea soup in it rather than taking up much needed freezer real estate. Great job Wright Family!

If it goes straight to your time it's because your water in the canner is already hot enough. I just got mine this week on a Black Friday sale (and it's not even Thanksgiving yet) so a good deal. Black Beans today, Black Eyed peas tomorrow, then potatoes, carrots and Vegetable Beef Stew after that. Beats digging out "big Mama" when all you want are a few pints.

What’s your altitude I just bought mine read instructions but watching videos. I’m at 585” so I’ll use the black top but the pressure canning times I’m it sure on and if anyone has tested at 1000 or below pressure canning

My mom and I found 50lbs of potatoes for $18 so we got 300lbs. We are almost done canning them and thinking about getting more. I know that sounds like a lot and it is a lot, but we want to be able to share in case of a potato shortage. We canned potato chunks and French fries. We averaged 7 quarts per 10lbs.

I will shortly have 3 rada peelers! Tried some others and they take so much force and leave weird grooves. Nope they'll be given away and extra rada to come! They're on Amazon too!

If you don't have a pressure cooker can you just do it on the stove with a canner, like starting cold and then heating it up?

What the heck?😦, Ok then let's go a little bit further.
      > If you don't have a stove can you do it under the sun when it's really hot?
      Or
      > If there is no sun light , can you blow dry it ?,🥴

Sorry. I try not to comment multiple times on the same video, but you were talking potato prices. Have you noticed that potatoes always go on sale just before the holidays? It’s a terrible time of year to take on a canning project, but sometimes I can pull them out for family game night and have potato peeling races. We have adult married kids and I can trust them with peelers. Haha. They usually humor me because I usually share the wealth. But anyway. I used to work in a grocery store. It’s a fact. Every year around Thanksgiving, potatoes go on sale. 😃 $$$ ❤
