Cutting-edge hybrid technology might well price the family hatchback you have in mind out of reach. But possibly not if the car you have in mind is a Fiat Tipo. In SUV-style Cross form, this model can offer you a very clever electrified engine indeed. And a bit of a crossover vibe into the bargain.
High technology and lifestyle looks have never previously been things you'd have associated with this sensible Fiat. Tipo history goes all the way back to 1988 and this current version has been on sale since 2015. A far-reaching facelift was introduced in 2020, with the range initially restructured around a single 1.0-litre petrol engine. More recently in early 2022, the line-up's been slimmed down to a five-door hatch body shape. And a 1.5-litre Hybrid 48V petrol engine option has been added to the range for Cross customers.

Don’t see too many formal reviews anymore. Everybody wants to be the next Top Gear by joking around but this review is very well done.👍

A d this 48v should be in the Fiat 500 and Panda hybrids. The mind boggles at these executive decisions

I love FIAT TIPOs with Tipo meaning in Italy their not beautiful but has a crackin' soul - I've had 2 Tipo's and a third hybrid Tipo would be mighty fine

I wonder to know if there is possibility to turn of day lights (because on previous Tipo modeles is not)? There is two reasons for that. Scenario 1: car is parked somewhere, driver is in the car with turned off engine and with open window... and just sitting and waiting/reading/watching something for a longer period of time (almost one hour). Meanwhile rain starts to falling and driver has to raise window. Before raising window driver need to turn on contact to activate switch for rising/lowering window. After rising window, diver continue with reading/watching... and forget to turn off contact! Because "day lights" are lighting (they are light up automaticaly with contact), and sucking battery while driver is occupied with other things (car is on parking, engine is turned off). After certain period of time, when driver try to start engine, nothing will happened. Battery doesn't have enough power and driver need to call and wait for serviceman to start engine. Nothing of that will happened if there is possibility to switch off day lights (knob position '0' on the left lever). Scenario 2: Car is parked and diver is waiting in car. Outside is hot / cold and aircondition is turned on. Of course, engine is turned on. Without any needs, day lights are turned on and driver can not turn off day lights! That is unnecessary waste of power, consumption, heat (ecologicaly unfriended) and unwanted turning attention on himself (etc. on the parking in the shopping mall with hundreds of cars, only your car is with turned on lights and light like lighthouse in hundreds of cars). Nothing of that will happened if there is possibility to turn of day lights (for example, put the knob in '0' position on the left lever). One thing I have not see on any presentation of Tipo hybrid...is there possibility to rise up all windows when you are outside of car (for example if you exit car and notice that some windows are not closed, then you must turn back and give contact...it will be easier if you could press the button on the key and close all windows...or turn the key in lock for few seconds and all windows rise like in some other cars...)

Honestly, this technology should have been the norm in the 90s - 00s. Why now?

Tipo still using the same platform FCA developed with GM. New Tipo will have Stellantis platform in 2026.
