    Good bye pine beetle... lol

      lol! Sadly they still survive in areas and we hear them chewing away in the burnt trees while were harvesting. All the dead standing timber from the beetle kill is definitely a big contributor to some of the huge wildfires we've been seeing in BC!

    The thing about those hard burns is the ash that get on the morels….

      @northernwildharvest  Рік тому +1

      Yeah definitely. That’s the exact reason we don’t focus in those areas longer term. Sometimes the first flush can be clean but then if heavy rain hits the ash splash can ruin the crop.

    Awesome drone footage, hope the bear stayed away!

      It stayed away for a few weeks until it got curious again and we had to ward it off. Happens every season so we're used to it! love seeing them...just not around our camp!

    Couldn’t help but notice you put store bought mushrooms with that pork loin in the Dutch oven…….why?……looks delicious anyways lol….love your station 👍

      I think we still had the creminis from when we left home, trying to use them up - also don't want to eat too many morels. Dutch oven is handy because we can load it up and walk away while we do other work around camp. Glad you like it! :)

      @@northernwildharvest I first tried morels when I lived in Yellowknife…..my buddies kids we’re working picking them at Tibet lake….we live in grande cache now and are avid natural morel hunters…..someday we hope to pick in a burned site…..thanks for sharing your adventures 👍

      @@proy2241 Awesome! We have harvested in NWT quite a few times, and we spend lots of time in the Yukon harvesting. Picking in the burn can be hot and dry but there's less underbrush to worry about when hiking which is nice. Happy to share our adventures!

    At these forests you guys are working in, are you allowed to take any of that burnt out timber for firewood at your camp?
    Those giant dead standing Doug firs had me wondering in the last episode as well as your firewood haul this episode!

    • @northernwildharvest
      @northernwildharvest  Рік тому +1

      Our camp was on private property so we could take all we need but if we were harvesting from crown land we are only allowed a certain number if cords and it has to be for personal use. Unfortunately fire hardened wood doesn’t make for very good firewood.
      A lot of the larger doug firs will end up being salvaged logged by logging companies.

      Ah! Makes sense! Those Doug firs were so big I hopped they could be salvaged.
      Thanks for the reply! Keep up the great work man!
