Senegal politics: Ousmane Sonko sentenced to two years in prison

- Opposition leader Ousmane Sonko has been acquitted of rape charges.
However, a court has sentenced him to two years in prison for “corrupting youth”.
Sonko, was accused of raping a woman in 2021.
His detention has led to weeks of violent protests and widespread unrest.
His supporters say the trial is politically motivated by his rivals including president Macky Sall.
They insist it's a ploy to prevent Sonko from running for office next year.

You are making a mistake Mr. reporter, Adji Sarr was not under 21 in 2021, she was 26. Furthermore, Medina is not Sonko' strong hold, Ziguinchor which is in the south is. You could have also explained how Sonko has been detained illegally in his house for 3 days prior to the verdict, or how the previous 2 opponents of the president have been eliminated by Macky Sall using the same justice system for which he hand picks the judges. That would have given a better picture to the viewers.

No evidence have been brought by the accuser adji sarr, any clue , any related info that can put even a doubt on the table, however osman sonko and his team brought evidence of conspirancy ( phone calls between them before the accusation, audio, vocals, bribery attempt, procedural defect, death treats on a doctor and police captain and so on ...)

Today as a verdict we are told that O. Sonko is sentenced for "youth corruption" with 2 years in prison (the elections are in 2024 and he loses his civil rights) a first in the judicial history of Senegal. In the face of oppression, resistance is a right, Macky Dirty outside...

There was no evidence provided by Aja sarr and her lawyers it was the other way round instead..
Sonko's team were the ones that has been providing evidence since day one..
I visited Senegal back in 2011. Great country. Smart and resourceful young people. Back then Abdoulaye Wade was planning to either extend his time in power or transfer power to his son. Lots of protests by the youth forced the govt to reconsider. Is it de ja vu again? What a shame.
