  • Nvidia (NVDA) CEO Jensen Huang praised electric vehicle maker Tesla (TSLA) during an interview with Yahoo Finance following the chip giant's quarterly earnings release. Huang pointed to Tesla's autonomous vehicle technology, claiming the company is "far ahead" of its competition.
Autoblog Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore joins Morning Brief to discuss Huang's bullish sentiment on Tesla and the challenges with autonomous driving's adoption.
Migliore outlines his timeline before autonomous vehicles will be deployed en masse: "I look at it more of like a five to ten-year time frame where we'll see these chips and then the technologies that they can power phased into different vehicles. And I think you'll see existing autonomous driving systems like Tesla's Full Self-driving, as well as other programs like General Motors (GM) has a feature called Super Cruise. I think you'll see those systems get increasingly more powerful, and then you'll see some of the features that are a little more basic...those features that are a little more like tertiary but still important, get more powerful and more helpful to the consumer. And I think it'll be a longer runway."

It’s natural to be skeptical, FSD without human monitoring is still a pipe dream.

@@madsam0320 They have nVidia chips and their own chips, and they plan to add AMD chips. Much like in batteries, they are swallowing up every source of compute available to them.
Tesla are spending $10B per year on growing and enhancing one of the world's largest computing facilities for this project, no one, even massive Apple, can touch it, which is why even they dropped out.
We got experts telling these Yahoos to watch for Tesla as the leader by far, and then we got the Yahoos playing armchair experts.

We are at the point where the is really nothing that artificial intelligence cannot do. They can perfectly imitate humans, act as virtual companions or teachers, and drive cars Self-driving is only a matter of the vehicles being able to account for more scenarios. Tesla is about 85 percent of the way there.

That guy at the end is spot on. There’s no compelling reason autonomous driving will take over the world any time soon. A cheap EV will fly off the shelves. Musk is making a huge strategic mistake.

Public transport has the disadvantage of no privacy and owning a car is relatively expensive. Robot vehicles will make transportation a lot cheaper as it removes the cost of buying and maintaining your own vehicle while achieving the same level of privacy.

"Skepticism" like my coworker had before he crashed his truck. Now Im giving him rides every day and he sees FSD supervised every day.
It takes 1 or 2 ride alongs to change someone's mind.
Also, comparing super cruise or Blue cruise to Tesla FSD is laughable. Those are at best comparable to Tesla's free autopilot in the 2016 Model S. Its adaptive cruise control that cant even do basic navigation. Comma AI is closer than GM and they admit, they are years behind Tesla.

I think a FSD car will cost a lot less than owning a cheap EV, that’s the power of FSD, public transit cost me around 10 a day plus parking plus car cost, insurance…….. cost per mile of a FSD car will be much lower than owning I hope
