Hey there my friend ,just wanted to say love the video you good sir are talented and a joy to watch hope in the coming year you do more videos because I would love to see them ,may you your family and all of your loved ones stay blessed stay safe and happy new year may this year bring more happiness succses love and health from the heart of all loving God to you and your family friend 💯🙌🙏🌹‼️
The good news is I've repaired dozens of these RQ-SX models now. I think for the next repair I'll do one of the later single belt units as the tear down is the same but repair is similar but sufficiently different to warrant another video. I've also got a few Sony units winging their way from Japan as we speak.
@SpoolsOfSound sounds great friend I know that i will love them very much, Happy New Year may God's love bless you and your family with health and blessings and success 🙌 Praise be to God my friend Praise be to God 🙏💯💪😇🙌‼️
Cheers. I've been refurbishing these RQ-SX models for a few weeks now and I think I've mostly got it down to a fine art. Although there is always a chance something weird might happen. Was fixing one unit last night and the speed adjuster literally fell apart, the plastic that makes up the pot literally crumbled. So that will require a very precise and very small part replacing now.
Good idea to avoid these models as they have rubber rings on the capstans which all fail. Some RQ-SX models have this and some do not. Also usually the A side capstan brass bearing has worn which causes wow flutter so its luck of the draw.
The rubber rings can be ok, but they need the correct treatment to ensure long life. If they've been cleaned with IPA they're probably toast though. It's possibly to use the solid capstans from a trashed model on a Capstan ring model too. Usually I find it's corrosion on the capstans that's the big issue.
