Making My Mexican Rice- Updated and Easy to follow recipe

- Hello Everyone! Welcome Into Deb's Kitchen where I am remaking my most viewed video of my Mexican Rice recipe. It was one of my first videos I made and I realized some of my instructions could be a little hard to follow so I remade it with easier and clearer instructions. Mexican Rice ( revamped recipe)
Ingredients
2 C long grain rice
1 8 oz. Can tomato sauce
3 Tbsp. Powder Knorr Chicken bouillon
2 Tbsp dehydrated onion
1/2tsp. Cumin ( optional)
5 C. Water ( liquid measure )
1/4 C Canola or vegetable oil
Instructions
In a Deep frying pan or pot set stove to med high heat add oil until hot a minute or two ,add rice and toast lightly, continually moving with a spoon so as not to burn. Rice should go from translucent appearance to white, then start to toast and start to appear golden, this should take no more than 5 minutes. Once rice is toasted pour in tomato sauce, followed immediately with water mixed with granulated boullion. Be careful of splatter. Add in cumin& onion making sure to stir very well, to incorporate, and to ensure there are no clumps of powder spices. Once water starts to boil vigerously cover with lid turn down heat to gently boil, must still see light bubbles action, cook exactly 20 minutes. Do not remove lid or stir, however you can giggle handle at 10 minute mark, to redistribute liquid and prevent sticking. After 20 minutes remove from heat and leave covered 5 minutes.
( Stove top still hot so moving pot prevents further cooking)
Uncover and enjoy.
Other options because you asked:
*You may substitute Jasmine rice
You may substitute 5 C.boxed or canned bouillon, and omit powder bouillon and liquid.
You can substitute or add fresh onion if desired
You can add 1 Cup corn or mixed vegetables before you cover sprinkle over top don't stir. I use frozen vegetables thawed in microwave.

I am SO thankful to have found a channel like this. I'm biracial and was kept from my Hispanic side until I sought them out in my 30s. I asked my grandma to teach me to cook. She only had a chance to show me a couple things before she passed. And.... she also was not about using measurements. But I need it since I don't have that exposure and practice with the women in my family.
I have made so many attempts and it never comes out right. I've developed s reputation for not being able to cook with my in laws who are mexican (but I can cook southern food real good learned that from my white side).
This channel is a god send!!! I cannot thank you enough for making this content 😊❤

I could never make this rice right until I tried your recipe!! Thank you so much ! My family loved it . I used fresh onions, enchilada sauce instead of tomato sauce , I also added a couple spoonfuls of salsa . I used the broth left from cooking my chicken in the insta pot. I always did the one cup of rice to two cups of liquid . I never tried two cups of rice to five cups of liquid . It came out perfect ! I’m so excited ! I will be making this a lot ! I subscribed to your channel and look forward to watching more of your recipes.

I made this using your recipe - it was delicious! Truly ...so good. I followed your directions exactly! I highly recommend it....after it was done, I spooned it out, added cheese on top and... oh my...it was SO good. thank you Deb's Kitchen.
You can customize it! I sometimes as various frozen veggies, sometime peas, sometimes kernel corn and sometimes mixed veggies with or without shredded chicken!

I made this rice for the first time a few weeks ago.. My Mexican rice used to always turn out gummy/crunchy, but not with your "shake the pot" and use a steam hole method.. Plus I used to always wash the rice. I didn't think about that excess water in there. Your and your dad's rice is now my go to Mexican style rice.. We love it! Thanks :)

I just wanna say thank you I have always struggled with rice mine always comes out a little mushy but always flavorful my kids grew up with it like that and they love it but I always want the fluffy rice that they serve in the restaurants And I’ve tried several recipes with no luck … yours is a happy mixture of both and now I can make it ! @@In_DebsKitchen I’m just learning to cook Mexican. I’m from Appalachia originally. Do well with flour tortillas. Corn tortilla not so well. I get the dough stirred up ok, it doesn’t crack, sometimes they puff a little bit most times not. Also have trouble getting them crispy. Would enjoy a corn tortilla 101 if you ever feel like doing that or maybe even as part of a recipe you already doing with crispy corn tortillas. Thank you

Your rice recipe is very delicious. As a matter of fact I’m making it a second time right now because my husband liked it so much that he requested it again. By far the most accurate and best recipe I’ve used for soft fluffy Spanish rice. Perfect every time. However, I have a question? If I double the portion, do I need to double the cooking time?

We're Mexican and call it Spanish rice. Mom never rinsed her rice and we all lived! I use two ingredients only, rice and tomato flavored caldo de pollo.i also like to overcook the bottom to make a crunchy socarrant like the Spanish do with paella. 😋

Yay, I'm so glad you found it to your liking, and your own skills made it perfect! Some still comment that it did not come out for them, I suggested to keep trying by adjusting the heat temperature. Practice makes perfect.

Hi Ms Deb, Thank You for the great receipt ♥️ I wanted to tell you that you have a great quality pan there.....if you put Baking Soda on the bottom of it with a spray of water to make a paste and then let it set for 20 mins all that black stuff at the bottom of your pan will clean off Andy your pan will cook like it is brand New....just thought I share with you....have a beautiful day...thanks again 🌹
Thank you for the tip, I've tried a couple of other things on my well worn pan! I know it's taken a beating over the years, it's my go to for my rice and daily cooking although I have a new 13 piece iron clad set from Viking still packed away! I also have a new anodized Teflon set but I go back to old faithful! I'll try the baking soda!🤪

This looks sooo good! Thank you for using a "liquids" measuring cup for the water. On most of the cooking viideos that I watch, they use the "dry" measures for everything, and it makes me crazy! 😊

This looks great! Going to try it tonight to serve with my fajitas. 5 c's of liquid for 2 c's of rice seemed high. I usually use a 1:1.5 ratio.
Feel free to use the traditional 2 to 1 ratio. This is how my Mama taught me and while it may be a tad moist it is delicious...or so I've been told.😁
