I stupidly forgot one of the most important waifus because I'm secretly salty being unable to pull her: SCARLET! Funny because she might have the most complex name as well. Scarlet is a Pilgrim apart of the Pioneer squad alongside MY BABY GIRL Snow White and Goonette Rapunzel. Like Snow White and Red Hood as well, she was previously a part of the now defunct Goddess squad and is the most modified NIKKE in lore, second being Rapi. Her name also follows the theme of fairy tales in her squad with her name in Korean being 홍련 (Hongryeon) or Red Lotus. Her name comes from a Korean folktale named 'The Story of Janghwa (Rose, Scarlet's older sister) and Hongryeon' which also has a movie adaptation. It's about two humble sisters who grew up alongside each other with their father. Their mother passed away after Hongryeon, the younger of the two sisters, turned 5 years old. After their mother's passing, the father remarried to a devilish, cruel, and uncouth stepmother who is dedicated to making their lives a living hell and they must stick together to overcome their stepmother's wrath. To avoid spoilers, I'll just leave it at that. Just like in the story, Hongryeon (Scarlet) is based on the eponymous sister of the tale and also has a deceased sister of the same name in-game as well, Rose. Her sword 'Fleetly Fading' also follows this concept with it being named after an aphorism in Korean, " "화무십일홍," or in English "no flowers are red (vivid) for ten days," which basically means all great things must come to an end in English and that everything is fleeting. The phrase originally comes from a Song dynasty-era Chinese poet Yang Wanli in which in a poem he states, "It was said, 'flowers lose their redness (vitality) after ten days,' but this flower has no day without spring winds." This can be allegorical to Scarlet's distinct lack of red with the only red seen on her are blood stains and the red on her obi (帯) in her appearance and the loss of "red" in her life (Red Hood and her sister Rose (Janghwa). A red lotus in Buddhism also symbolizes compassion and the original state of the heart. A red lotus indicates a willingness to save lives in Buddhism and is also her duty in the game as a Pioneer and Pilgrim. Interesting enough, her English name Scarlet also adheres to the fairy tale theme (and one that also has a Disney adaptation) in English, as the name Scarlet most likely comes from the Russian folk tale The Little Scarlet Flower which is essentially an adaptation of Beauty and the Beast written by Sergey Aksakov. Her name could've been mistranslated to Scarlet possibly due to the meaning of her name most likely being lost-in-translation to Western audiences, as they would not have known about the story of Janghwa and Hongyeon. I personally find Red Lotus (Hongryeon) a more suiting name than Scarlet given the context. Jeez, I guess that's why I subconsciously avoided adding Scarlet in the video, aint no one tryna hear (or read) allat.
I think I heard in the game somewhere that nikke body is just how you idealy want it to be. So during her transformation from human to nikke alice remember the only book that she love to read. Alice in wonderland.
Alice was a terminal patient who personally chose to make her NIKKE identity Alice in Wonderland as her final plea. In the bunny girl event and a negative answer in advise, Alice has spells of self awareness at times as well. "If you were the main character in a movie, what would you be?" "Alice" "B-but I'm Alice...." - "What are you talking about? We're here because we're winning." - referring to Soda feeling she doesn't "deserve" to win a competition when there's no whimsical spin Alice can use to help her depression. And she refers the Arc to Elysium. That's not a kiddy fairy tale reference, that's referring to the Greek afterlife's equal to Heaven. Referring to a home to the righteous, divinely blessed, and heroic. Where there is no strife or discomfort, and everyone can enjoy a simulation of their better mortal joys. And given positive poise to herself as a NIKKE, a honored soul given a body to freely enjoy things.
Dorothy name followed the Fairy Tale theme because she is a former member of the Goddess Squad. Like how The Wizard of Oz is a story about a girl who when on a magical journey before returning to reality, Dorothy believes in the dream that is the Goddess Squad but the Ark betrayal pulled her back into reality.
Wow, I never really thought of it like that! So, that would mean the surface is Kansas and the Ark is the land of Oz? Actually, now I wonder who would be the wizard and who would the the witch? The Central Government perhaps?

Just some things to add to the video: The squad Triangle is referencing the Crime Triangle, which identifies the 3 factors that create a criminal offense: Desire, Target, and Opportunity. Crown's gacha skin leads her to referencing the folktale "Emperor's New Clothes".
I wonder if each member is correlated to each factor of the crime triangle, like Admi's weapon 'Affection's End' would mean that she's correlates to the Desire part? Also good catch on the Emperor's New Clothes reference!

Moran is the Korean word for peony flower (Molan/모란), fitting in the theme of Sakura and Rose(anna). She's Chinese given her outfit and rifle, so it should be actually be Mudan (牡丹) in Chinese, but they just went with the Korean version since it's a Korean game and it's easier for them to pronounce.
Chime is a the sound a bell makes, which is reflected on the bells on her helmet. Bells typically symbolize stability and order, which she provides to Crown and their kingdom. Also like a bell, she is loud as hell (in the JP dub anyway).
Just looked this up and you're correct! That makes a lot more sense given I thought it odd Moran was the only one with an irl mobster's name. It seems a lot of things with meanings tend to get lost in translation when localizing games from JP/CN/KR and that's why people that learn these languages have a whole different appreciation for that said media.
Chime refers to the harmonious sound of ringing bells. Bells have historically been used for practical purposes (i.e. alarms, telling the passage of time, delivering news of certain events, etc.) which is appropriate for Chime's role as Crown's loyal servant (also correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like Chime was the one who often notified of incoming Rapture attacks in the story). Bells can also symbolize joy and positivity, which is very fitting considering Chime's personality. I think that Chime's name represents both the important role she serves for Crown and the kingdom, and the fact that she is an uplifting presence with her unwavering loyalty and heartfelt dedication to the cause. Interesting things to point out: -She often *chimes* in to correct Crown's miscommunications. -Hanging to the left and right sides of her helmet she has two objects that look like cowbells. I like to imagine you that can tell where she is at all times because those things make noise as she moves around the place.
Thanks for the added information! I just learned that knights (like Chime) carried around clock jacks on their armor to strike chimes and tower bells to mark the hours. She did warn about rapture attacks, so her character is most likely a direct reference to what you said.
Anachiro before turning into a Heretic was a Grimm unit known as Cinderella, her weapon's name is Glass Slippers and during the Ark's evacuation she held the title of the most powerful Nikke, so there you go one more fairy tale for the squad.
Yet actually, she is designed and manufactrued based on far more advanced Rapture techonologies by three hyper enterprises at any costs... which means more noticed by foes. Finally, the wingman shield around her probably made by the renovated crystal from Tyrant class Rapture wreckage or the designated crystal mine, which be used as laser acceleration and 3D combat scattering.
Right, but wasn't it stated that Liliweiss was actually more powerful than her, she just couldn't defeat Anachiro without her squad sustaining casualties due to collateral damage?
With the post-ending scene with Crown's Event, I think Modernia is more in her uncorrupted state, she's become the most heretical of all by being not of malice, but aversion of established beliefs from her wholly subjective perspective. Being the only heretic is not out of selfish desire, but MODERN application. She alone can question the general purpose of slaughtering raptures back, she alone is self aware of her powers not as superiority but her new "genetics", she is the only Heretic to not mutate into a pseudo rapture but a mech suit, she alone evolves not out of rage and desperation but understanding and reflection. And above all, a "Rapture Queen" who wants the best for everyone.
There are a lot of allusions to Bee's in Marian/Modernia's design, especially if you look closely at her rapture form. She's a Princess Bee here to reunite the hive.

When tensions were at their breaking point Pinne held them together by telling to stop squabbling. Pinne's "ghost" also holds together a broken Dorothy... Until Oz(wald)'s betrayal

It could also refer to the 'medicine' she gives to the Commander and I know 'aether' is the life essence in Greek mythology which ether is based on. I'm surprised I didn't catch on to Ether and Mana given I've beaten most Final Fantasies lol.
@@pythonkill3r my guess is that you don't use Ether that much in Final Fantasy, given that most of time, we're beating it with limit breaks and skills, and we only use magic for buffs like Haste and Protect anyway unless it's mandatory on a character like the Mages. Anyway, if you played other RPGs other than Final Fantasy and they used Ether as a medicine for restoring skill resources (Mana in general or PP in Pokémon), your RPG neurons are activated when you see Ether and Mana together. And that's one of the reasons why I love both Ether and Mana. I have a maxed Ether, waiting for her SSR variant and I wish Shiftup finally releases Mana soon.
I like to point out that the Nikkes this squad are possibly named after the weapons of the old era with the somewhat fitting of the squad name "Rewind". Bay as in Bayonet, and Clay for Claymore, where both of them named after swords (of the old era).

For Neve though, I just kinda thought her name sounded like "nieve", the spanish word for snow. And Chime, well, someone else already mentioned her. I think it's also worth mentioning that Maiden (as you said being inspired by the Iron Maiden) incorperates her inspiration even further in her dress design. If you look at the inner folds of the dress, you'll see spikes facing inward around a metal frame.
There are a few characters you kinda missed, but since none of them are playable, it's not a big deal. Rian, a personal assistant to Syuen, is a mercenary only working under Boss Bitch for the money. No idea what her name might be taken from, though. Cinderella (the Nikke that later becomes the Heretic Anachiro) is obviously named after the fairy tale character of the same name, with her signature weapon even called "Glass Slipper", possibly referencing the idea that only Cinderella can use it. Papillion, a Nikke of unknown affliation and manufacture, is portrayed as the "personal" Nikke of Deputy Burningum. Since her intended work is unclear, all that can be said, is that she carries very clear butterfly designs, with papillon being french for butterfly. Flora of the Botanic Garden squad is currently its only known member, her purpose being plant and wildlife studies. She's obviously named after the latin word for flowers, and is mild-mannered, but knowledgeable about plant life. The Pathfinder Squad, which currently consists of Liveryn (taken from Delivery, which she's very determined to do, for better or worse), and Fragile (refrencing fragile contents and the cautions such delivers must be handled with, also referencing her cautious and nervous demeanor), were originally couriers for the surface, but the difficulty in holding grounds on the surface left them without work, so they were forced to take odd jobs as "personal couriers" for the Ark's high society. Hamer & Drill has probably the worst names so far, with Hammering (who uses a Hammer and is blunt and direct) and Drilley (who uses a Drill, and is constantly "drilling" people for answers until she's satisfied). They're an excavation squad intended for high-danger mining operations, but the aforementioned difficulty in hold ing ground on the surface, as well as the exhaustion of most known ore mines, has also left them kinda jobless. And in the latest chapters we meet the Pilgrim Grave. Her name is simply improvised on the spot by the Commander, referencing the huge casket she carries on her back. She also looks a lot like an undertaker (or rather THE Undertaker, genderbent), so the name works. Then we have the Heretic Chatterbox, who MIGHT be a reference to one "Grandma Chatterbox", a (possibly made-up) woman who took it upon herself to find the oldest recorded versions of all fairy tales across the world. Which fits with Chatterbox's obsession with Marian and the Pilgrims (severaö of which are named after fairly tale characters), as well as the knowledge he already seems to have.

She herself is also calling it Seven's Dwarves II, meaning it was originally meant to be a Snow White weapon. That opens a whole cavalcade of possible theories as to what Grave's intended purpose and identity could be.

Also, I don't know if you have played Red Ash, but the name "Freesia" (which is also the titular song for the character in Red Ash) might have some meaning for Rapi. Its name comes from a flower that symbolizes innocence, trust and friendship.

Crown is actually reference to the opposite version of The King from "Emeperor's New Clothes", which Crown goes naked on her gacha outfit from Last Stand event recently.

Idk if anyone else has said it, but I’m fairly certain Elegg’s gun is more a nod to Doom than Army of Darkness, as it’s very similar to the BFG9000. In the game it’s a large energy blast weapon, but in the comics, it was shown more akin to a heavy machine gun firing small bullet-like energy projectiles
Ether and Mana are alchemical concepts. So Ether was not named after the chemical compound, but the Alchemic concept of Ether. Therefore, her squad is named after alchemic ideas. This makes more sense, as they are researchers who, effectively, look for a "Philosopher's Stone" ; solutions to everything

Great job on the video! It opened up my eyes to how detailed they went with the naming of the Nikkes and it gave me more to look into :DD I would suggest taking a deeper look into the visual design as well. Pinpointing which culture or imagery they are trying to pull from/invoke can be of great help to figure out what they were trying to convey with each character. For example, you've concluded that Moran came from a irl gangster from the US, but looking at her design its clearly inspired from Chinese culture (and most likely the Triad, which is an influential chinese gang). It's good @JundRaptor in the comments was able to pinpoint that she was named after a peony! Overall though you've done an exellent job and I love the video! If there's a future video you need help on pinpointing fashion history or a design breakdown, I can help as I went to school for it :) I'm sure a lot of other ppl here would be down to help as well!

I'm suspecting Ludmilla to be based on Hans Christian Andersen's "The Snow Queen". Or the White Queen from the second book of Alice in Wonderland: through the looking glass. Might be a mix of both, but because she is close to Alice and Alice refers to her as a queen that's what I'm suspecting. The White Queen is a chess piece, and Alice helps her in the story

Most of the girls in Nikke have named weapons, and the names are always connected to them (Dorothy has the Ungrateful OZ, for example). Interestingly Blanc and Noir have the Black Castor and White Pollux, so their weapons are named for brothers from Greco-Roman myth.

There’s also the mass production Nikkes. Nothing too special about their names other than summarising what each company’s main focus is. Elysion has “Soldiers”, Missilis has “Products” and Tetra Line has “iDolls (idols)”.
Dunno how far you are in the story, but the reason Dorothy follows the naming convention of Goddess Squad is because she used to be part of it. Second-in-command in fact. Her weapon is named Ungrateful Oz, because during the events of OverZone (OZ) she and Goddess squad were barred entry into the Ark after suffering so much in defending it as it was being sealed. The mouthpiece of the Central Government who denied them entry? Oswald. After those events she was too distraught and splintered off the surviving members of Goddess Squad (Snow White, Scarlett and Rapunzel who became Squad Pioneer), to form her own paradise (Eden) to spite the Ark, despite her unconsciously desperately wanting to be accepted into the Ark.
I love the detail into the names and where each Nikke is assigned and how. It reminds me of an old gacha game called Phantom of the Kill, where all the units' names are derived from gear from myths and legends. Each unit would adopt some aspect of the original wielder that would resonate with an aspect of the unit.
Now this might just be me but i also thought k and d's names could relate to a k/d or kill death ratio given their line of work. Also eleggs gun happens to be a direct riff on the bfg from the doom movie

The name "Mephisto" doesn't originate from Marvel: it's short for Mephistopheles, a demon who was firstly mentioned in the legend of "Faust", from German Folklore. Fun fact about the Carronades: in the original version, their squad's name is "Little Cannon", in English. Unlimited may have all their names derived from fairy tales too. Ludmilla may come from "Ruslan and Ludmilla", a Russian Fairy Tale. Neve's name may be from the Italian name of Snow White: Biancaneve. I have no idea about Tove's though. There are two other members from 777: Rouge (red) and Jaune (yellow); the later one has only been mentioned in the story and we don't even know how she looks like. Dorothy's name comes from a fairy tale because she's a Fairy Tale model too. Also, she's best girl. And she's the main reason I consider the localization of "Fairy Tale model" to "Grimms model" stupid, since Wizard of Oz is not a tale written by the Grimm brothers. Also, Crown's armor, the Naked King, is a reference to another fairy tale: the Emperor's New Clothes.

You got me really curious about this, as I hadn't really thought about it much past the obvious until now. I want to add a bit from experience and some light surface level reading online: part 1: Anne: Hebrew origins for the name(from Hannah), meaning merciful and often the people with this name in history and religious texts are described as notably kind people. In Christianity there is the saint Anne, mother of virgin Mary, though connection is disputed by several sources. Hannah also became the Latin version Anna which has the meaning "favor" or "grace.". The name Anne is mostly French in nature, whereas Ann was used in English countries. Some notable people with the name include: Anne Frank who wrote a certain very well known diary. This does have some connection, as Anne's Diary in the game is probably the most important object to her. Then there is Anne McLaren who "was a British scientist who was a leading figure in developmental biology. She paved the way for women in science and her work helped lead to human in vitro fertilization (IVF)." The science part can hold some form of connection I think, but mostly I believe there is a strong possibility of there being a connection between Anne from Nikke and Anne Frank. Yuni: In Korean it's meaning is related to tropes of sweet and happy/clever aspects.(Cute, happy, giggly, and smart.) In Sanskrit it means connection, joining, union and combining. This has implications for her character with Korean being her outward appearance and the Sanskrit terms for her personality; dependent, symbiotic and her extreme connection to Mihara. In Japanese it has similar meanings to the Sanskrit word, though it adds a myriad of other meanings, including abundance, relaxation and open-mindedness. I see less of a correlation here. Here in Scandinavia we have the month of Juni(June) coming from the goddess Juno who is equated to the goddess Hera; Goddess of marriage and love. I think this forms an intended connection with both the Sanskrit word and the goddess and the Nikke characters themes. Juno is also the Goddess of marriage and childbirth so ehrm, huge W for the Yuni lovers if the connection is right? Mihara: Japanese meaning that has relevance is "beautiful" and "look"(also 3 plains, but she has no relation to plains as she is not flat). Say Mihara in English a few times and it might sound a bit like mire, which would be a bog you sink into (she got bogged good in the story frfr), or could be short for admire which would again correlate it to looking. This is definitely a stretch though. Also I found a Japanese Idol named Yuki Mihara which probably isn't related in any way but the names aren't too far apart from Yuni and Mihara. Some other meanings in Japanese related to Mihara are: forgiveness, Origin, Sight, three (number) and to meet. I can see some correlation to these and her story. "Mihar is a Muslim boy name and it is an Arabic originated name with multiple meanings. Mihar name meaning is Name of Lord Krishna; Light of and the associated lucky number is 3" - and In Urdu the word Mihar can mean love, affection, friendship, kindness, mercy, pity and sympathy. In Rome during the 4th century they had a cult faithful to Mithras. Possible connections but all of this is honestly not too relevant to the character herself, though there might be points of inspiration there. D: "In ancient Roman religion, Lucina was a title or epithet given to the goddess Juno,[1] and sometimes to Diana,[2] in their roles as goddesses of childbirth who safeguarded the lives of women in labor." Specifically Diana, her alter might have a connection to the last part here; Diana > safeguarding lives of women. Though a stretch; Michael Jackson has a song called dirty Diana and I hope there is a connection there. Princess Diana might have some symbolic connections too if looked into. Crow: In Nordic mythology crows are symbols of death, and often compared to ravens who represent wisdom owing to Odin having appeared often as a Raven or an old man surrounded by ravens in the mortal realm. She always struck me as clever in her reasoning despite being batshit. Crows are also seen as jealous, and while I'm no expert on this; I remember being told of the crows stealing silverware and jewelry to put in their nest since they are drawn to shiny objects. Probably due to the ancient mythology aspect the hereditary folklore surrounding crows are as I said related to death for the most part, and this has persisted until recently, with some even believing in it till this day. Seeing a crow land on a house or around a person is a sort of sign of their impending death. I've not researched this, it's just based on experience growing up in Norway, so feel free to correct me. Tove: Is also a pretty normal name in Scandinavia for women. The Finnish author who wrote the Moomins was also named Tove. The meanings are likely attributed to thunder, beauty and Thor from Nordic mythos. Yulha: "In Korean, Yul (율) can mean "law" or "regulation" (often related to justice or order)" Mary: With a squad name like Seraphim, the connection to virgin Mary also becomes an important connection I think. (Mother of Jesus) Especially with her maternal qualities. There is also "bloody Mary"; an urban legend about a sort of spirit you summon by saying her name three times in front of the mirror at night only to then get killed or spooked. This could make for a funny little event. Mary, Mary, Mary and then she comes to give you a shot of medicine or some shit. Then there is the queen in England who burned hundreds of people, which is most likely the origin of the bloody Mary spirit to begin with. The Nikke def has a spooky side to her, so the connection is somewhat solid. Rosemary gets its name from Latin and means "dew of the sea" literally. Her summer alt could have some references to this, but I'm not sure. Lastly there is the "Mary Celeste" ship mystery. It was a ship that was found adrift without anyone on it (like how Brook was found pretty much) about a century ago. They could definitely have sprinkled some references to this during the summer event but I can't recall any. Lilyweiss: There are also a lot of texts that depict Lilith as a demon, or someone who consorts with demons like; in some Jewish texts she is often depicted as a danger to newborn children and women in childbirth, which is why certain amulets would be used to ward her off. This is found in the "Alphabet of Ben-Sira" which also says that she mingled with demons after being banished from Eden, and that she gave birth to a lot of demons herself. In Christianity Lilith is sometimes portrayed and viewed as a demonic entity, or a succubus. I remember "Vampire the Masquerade" lore using her as the sort of mother of demons, and I think she led Cane to becoming the first Vampire IIRC. In modern fiction and occultism she if usually portrayed as a strong female figure representing the anthesis's to patriarchy and a sort of mysterious rebel with a lot of power. I don't think Nikke is far off with that, in taking some inspiration from Lilith apart from the feminism aspects lol. Harran: Was also a city in what is now Turkey where according to the Bible, it was one of the places where Abraham and his family settled, and it was the place that God called Abraham to continue his journey to Canaan.
Part 2: Noah: I think the name is wasted on the character lol. In religious texts, personality-wise Noah is almost always depicted as being the model faithful religious person. An interesting exception is that he became a major drunk after the flood in Genesis (very understandable tbf). The only part of his character I could correlate with the Nikke is how steadfast, loyal, faithful and enduring he and the Nikke are in terms of personality. She is the ultimate shield, and thematically this could correlate to Noah being the shield of life on Earth during the flood. There might be more info in her backstory related to this but I can't remember much of it. Ultimately I think the name Noah would be better suited towards someone like Oswald or any of the Nikkes responsible for the defense of the Arc during it's creation. Maybe even Enikk.. Funnily enough "Enoch is described as the great-grandfather of Noah." so Enikk's name is not far off in relations haha. More on that soon. Oswald, Enikk and Einkk and Gilgamesh(?): After shit talking Noah for a bit for stealing the name of someone who could use it better, I wanted to find out a bit about these side characters names and correlations, so let's see: Oswald, one of my favorite characters after the Red Ash event, who seems to be a really complex character with a lot of importance during the creation of the arc. Not at the top of the ladder but still important. In regards to the events of the Over zone event maybe a fitting name would be something relating to Hermes, being a "conductor of souls into the afterlife." and a "messenger of the gods". Regardless, the name Oswald is seemingly old English and means "divine power/God's power". There was a Oswald of Worcester who worked to fix the corruption with the church and this definitely rings a bell. There was also a Saint Oswald who got martyred into sainthood. Lastly penguin from the batman comics is named Oswald. As for Einkk and Enikk, they are probably related to the Sumerian god Enki (Ea in Akkadian); God of wisdom, creation and water. Being that is Sumerian is interesting as that is regarded as one of the most ancient cultures, and a lot of the religions of the west seem to stem from these pantheons. Enki also warned Atrahasis who was like their version of Noah (the latter iteration if you will) of a flood that would destroy man-kind. Once again Noah as a name is wasted on that Nikke lol. "Enki’s lore reflects his importance in maintaining both cosmic and human order". Enoch is a name which roughly means dedicated or consecrated, and the person in the old testament with this name was the son of Cain (probably gonna be a name in the future of Nikke huh..) and grandfather of Noah. The book of Enoch is for the most part not regarded as "canon" but holds significance within Christianity and Judaism; describing visions of heaven, conversations with angels and about the "coming judgement". Enoch is considered the same person/prophet they call Idris in Islam, who was also considered to be very wise. Einkk also sounds somewhat similar to the word "enke" which in Norwegian means widow, though there is probably no intended correlation. Enrick is a name in Spanish and Catalan meaning "ruler of the estate" or ruler of an area at least. This does make sense in regards to both Einkk and Enikk. There is also the eunuchs who ehrm... Lost their balls to serve better. Essentially castrated men. I don't see much of a connection between eunuchs and Einkk/Enikk apart from the similar word, but in many cultures they were important figures who "would serve loyally, without the possibility of creating their own legacy" and with a lot of them operating in administrative positions in the background it does draw a connection regardless.. Also there is the character in game of thrones who does have kind of a similar role to Enikk. Also I remember hearing that many boys would be castrated so they would not reach full puberty, allowing them to sing in their "angelic" choir forever.. Though sad, we could force a connection here if my theories about what Enikk and Einkk are is correct, though I'm not caught up with the story and don't think it's fully expanded upon yet anyways. Eni in some Nigerian languages means one or references Yoruba (God) and Ein in German means one. There are a lot of connections to these girls name wise, but I'll drop one last one. Enkidu was a warrior created by gods in the Epic of Gilgamesh who was supposed to oppose Gilgamesh in his tyrannical rule, but later they became great friends. Due to him abandoning his "divine command" he gets cursed by the gods and gets a slow, painful death through illness. Some connotations here include the creation being intentional, learning about humanity, and a theory I have is that Gilgamesh represents either the commander at some point in the story, or a different character we don't know about yet, probably related to the creation of the Ark or Nikkes. I truly think there is a connection to this character and story, especially given how Gilgamesh from the Fate series popularized him and the story within pop-culture, anime and games. Struck by grief due to the death of Enkidu, and then realizing his own mortality, Gilgamesh gets scared and sets out on a journey to acquire immortality; he travels to the edge of the world and meets Utnapishtim, "who recounts the story of the Great Flood, similar to the biblical Noah." Again with the Noah connection.. Shift-up arghh!!! So after getting that piece of info, he also learns of a plant that can grant eternal youth(Nikke connection), which he manages to acquire and lose and has to accept his mortality. This could become a story related to the creation of the ark/Nikke's but like I also mentioned; The commander, who might possibly in his need for strength seek out a way to modify his mortal body so he can better serve the Ark. Or maybe a different character like Rapi or Enikk in her theoretical passing could try to force it on the commander? After accepting his mortality, Gilgamesh dedicates himself and his remaining time to the betterment of his home, Uruk and while now knows his limitations, he also learns to value life and the importance of legacy, in a sense granting him indirect immortality through what he built and the people he had an impact on. If Nikke chooses a direction similar to this I see greatness ahead. Maybe a perfect way to end the inevitable story of the game, and the commander; leading up to a possible sequel?? honestly while writing all the previous paragraphs I forgot how significant the Ark being named what it is could be in regards to important characters, though once again the name Noah is wasted on the Nikke. Unless there is some lore which could be significant related to her? Please tell me there is. Squad names have a lot of cool meanings too like Aegis squad referencing the Iliad's named shield from ancient Greek mythology, or like you mentioned; Seraph. Also I'm surprised by the amount of connections to Arabic and middle eastern centered lore, mythos an religion. It's often used in media but perhaps a bit rarer than others. Also fuck me I just spent the entire day researching this shit when I should've been cleaning my room.

Perilous Siege members names actually make up the acronym MDK(one member has not made an appearance, but has been referenced to), a nod to the movie Demolition Man, and it means Murder Death Kill, like Extrinsic, they are a black ops squad and work as government assassins, thus they Murder, cause Death and Kill. Liliweiss is also based off Sleeping Beauty, since as of right now in the story she is a sleeping beauty...go figure. Another thing could be that Sleeping Beauty's name in the fairy tale is Aurora, meaning Dawn, like Liliweiss being the first Nikke was a new Dawn for humanity, but that's just my speculation.
I think there's also chance that Moran could be named after Colonel Sebastian Moran from the Sherlock Holmes novels, if you don't remember who that is he used to be in the military and was considered to be the best marksman, he worked under Moriarty. The only counter to it is that she uses an AR. Oh and additionally, her name is also derived from a flower much like Sakura and Rosanna (aka Rose). Moran is the short-term for Peony in Korean.
Crown is a Pilgrim based on the Danish folktale *"The Emperor's New Clothes"* She activated her *"Naked King/Ruler"* ability at the near end of the story to defeat Indivilia's & Chatterbox's army.
a fun fact is that Viper could also be named after Viper, the antagonist from Titanfall 2. If you give it some thought, Viper's objective is to kill the protagonist, Jack Cooper, kinda like how Viper tries to kill the Commander by betraying him and Counters in Chapter 16

I stupidly forgot one of the most important waifus because I'm secretly salty being unable to pull her: SCARLET! Funny because she might have the most complex name as well.
Scarlet is a Pilgrim apart of the Pioneer squad alongside MY BABY GIRL Snow White and Goonette Rapunzel. Like Snow White and Red Hood as well, she was previously a part of the now defunct Goddess squad and is the most modified NIKKE in lore, second being Rapi. Her name also follows the theme of fairy tales in her squad with her name in Korean being 홍련 (Hongryeon) or Red Lotus. Her name comes from a Korean folktale named 'The Story of Janghwa (Rose, Scarlet's older sister) and Hongryeon' which also has a movie adaptation. It's about two humble sisters who grew up alongside each other with their father. Their mother passed away after Hongryeon, the younger of the two sisters, turned 5 years old. After their mother's passing, the father remarried to a devilish, cruel, and uncouth stepmother who is dedicated to making their lives a living hell and they must stick together to overcome their stepmother's wrath. To avoid spoilers, I'll just leave it at that.
Just like in the story, Hongryeon (Scarlet) is based on the eponymous sister of the tale and also has a deceased sister of the same name in-game as well, Rose. Her sword 'Fleetly Fading' also follows this concept with it being named after an aphorism in Korean, " "화무십일홍," or in English "no flowers are red (vivid) for ten days," which basically means all great things must come to an end in English and that everything is fleeting. The phrase originally comes from a Song dynasty-era Chinese poet Yang Wanli in which in a poem he states, "It was said, 'flowers lose their redness (vitality) after ten days,' but this flower has no day without spring winds." This can be allegorical to Scarlet's distinct lack of red with the only red seen on her are blood stains and the red on her obi (帯) in her appearance and the loss of "red" in her life (Red Hood and her sister Rose (Janghwa). A red lotus in Buddhism also symbolizes compassion and the original state of the heart. A red lotus indicates a willingness to save lives in Buddhism and is also her duty in the game as a Pioneer and Pilgrim. Interesting enough, her English name Scarlet also adheres to the fairy tale theme (and one that also has a Disney adaptation) in English, as the name Scarlet most likely comes from the Russian folk tale The Little Scarlet Flower which is essentially an adaptation of Beauty and the Beast written by Sergey Aksakov.
Her name could've been mistranslated to Scarlet possibly due to the meaning of her name most likely being lost-in-translation to Western audiences, as they would not have known about the story of Janghwa and Hongyeon. I personally find Red Lotus (Hongryeon) a more suiting name than Scarlet given the context. Jeez, I guess that's why I subconsciously avoided adding Scarlet in the video, aint no one tryna hear (or read) allat.

Dorothy name followed the Fairy Tale theme because she is a former member of the Goddess Squad. Like how The Wizard of Oz is a story about a girl who when on a magical journey before returning to reality, Dorothy believes in the dream that is the Goddess Squad but the Ark betrayal pulled her back into reality.

Moran is the Korean word for peony flower (Molan/모란), fitting in the theme of Sakura and Rose(anna). She's Chinese given her outfit and rifle, so it should be actually be Mudan (牡丹) in Chinese, but they just went with the Korean version since it's a Korean game and it's easier for them to pronounce.
Chime is a the sound a bell makes, which is reflected on the bells on her helmet. Bells typically symbolize stability and order, which she provides to Crown and their kingdom.
Also like a bell, she is loud as hell (in the JP dub anyway).
Just looked this up and you're correct! That makes a lot more sense given I thought it odd Moran was the only one with an irl mobster's name. It seems a lot of things with meanings tend to get lost in translation when localizing games from JP/CN/KR and that's why people that learn these languages have a whole different appreciation for that said media.
Also Moran represents the Chinese Triads if you played the Dirty Backyard event and cross reference with the real life gangs from Hong Kong.

Chime refers to the harmonious sound of ringing bells. Bells have historically been used for practical purposes (i.e. alarms, telling the passage of time, delivering news of certain events, etc.) which is appropriate for Chime's role as Crown's loyal servant (also correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like Chime was the one who often notified of incoming Rapture attacks in the story). Bells can also symbolize joy and positivity, which is very fitting considering Chime's personality. I think that Chime's name represents both the important role she serves for Crown and the kingdom, and the fact that she is an uplifting presence with her unwavering loyalty and heartfelt dedication to the cause.
Interesting things to point out:
-She often *chimes* in to correct Crown's miscommunications.
-Hanging to the left and right sides of her helmet she has two objects that look like cowbells. I like to imagine you that can tell where she is at all times because those things make noise as she moves around the place.

With the post-ending scene with Crown's Event, I think Modernia is more in her uncorrupted state, she's become the most heretical of all by being not of malice, but aversion of established beliefs from her wholly subjective perspective. Being the only heretic is not out of selfish desire, but MODERN application.
She alone can question the general purpose of slaughtering raptures back, she alone is self aware of her powers not as superiority but her new "genetics", she is the only Heretic to not mutate into a pseudo rapture but a mech suit, she alone evolves not out of rage and desperation but understanding and reflection. And above all, a "Rapture Queen" who wants the best for everyone.
She really plays into the philosophy of Modernism and the concept of it being the "root of all heresy". I appreciate the added insights!

@@pythonkill3r my guess is that you don't use Ether that much in Final Fantasy, given that most of time, we're beating it with limit breaks and skills, and we only use magic for buffs like Haste and Protect anyway unless it's mandatory on a character like the Mages.
Anyway, if you played other RPGs other than Final Fantasy and they used Ether as a medicine for restoring skill resources (Mana in general or PP in Pokémon), your RPG neurons are activated when you see Ether and Mana together. And that's one of the reasons why I love both Ether and Mana. I have a maxed Ether, waiting for her SSR variant and I wish Shiftup finally releases Mana soon.

For Neve though, I just kinda thought her name sounded like "nieve", the spanish word for snow. And Chime, well, someone else already mentioned her. There are a few characters you kinda missed, but since none of them are playable, it's not a big deal.
Rian, a personal assistant to Syuen, is a mercenary only working under Boss Bitch for the money. No idea what her name might be taken from, though.
Cinderella (the Nikke that later becomes the Heretic Anachiro) is obviously named after the fairy tale character of the same name, with her signature weapon even called "Glass Slipper", possibly referencing the idea that only Cinderella can use it.
Papillion, a Nikke of unknown affliation and manufacture, is portrayed as the "personal" Nikke of Deputy Burningum. Since her intended work is unclear, all that can be said, is that she carries very clear butterfly designs, with papillon being french for butterfly.
Flora of the Botanic Garden squad is currently its only known member, her purpose being plant and wildlife studies. She's obviously named after the latin word for flowers, and is mild-mannered, but knowledgeable about plant life.
The Pathfinder Squad, which currently consists of Liveryn (taken from Delivery, which she's very determined to do, for better or worse), and Fragile (refrencing fragile contents and the cautions such delivers must be handled with, also referencing her cautious and nervous demeanor), were originally couriers for the surface, but the difficulty in holding grounds on the surface left them without work, so they were forced to take odd jobs as "personal couriers" for the Ark's high society.
Hamer & Drill has probably the worst names so far, with Hammering (who uses a Hammer and is blunt and direct) and Drilley (who uses a Drill, and is constantly "drilling" people for answers until she's satisfied). They're an excavation squad intended for high-danger mining operations, but the aforementioned difficulty in hold ing ground on the surface, as well as the exhaustion of most known ore mines, has also left them kinda jobless.
And in the latest chapters we meet the Pilgrim Grave. Her name is simply improvised on the spot by the Commander, referencing the huge casket she carries on her back. She also looks a lot like an undertaker (or rather THE Undertaker, genderbent), so the name works.
Then we have the Heretic Chatterbox, who MIGHT be a reference to one "Grandma Chatterbox", a (possibly made-up) woman who took it upon herself to find the oldest recorded versions of all fairy tales across the world. Which fits with Chatterbox's obsession with Marian and the Pilgrims (severaö of which are named after fairly tale characters), as well as the knowledge he already seems to have.

She herself is also calling it Seven's Dwarves II, meaning it was originally meant to be a Snow White weapon. That opens a whole cavalcade of possible theories as to what Grave's intended purpose and identity could be.
Chatterbox might also be just the localization for his other codename, Talkative, which fits cuz he's a Rapture that talks.
A neat detail I'd like to point out about Julia, the name Locatelli on her skirt thingy is a reference to the Italian baroque violinist and composer Pietro Locatelli
From Stellar Blade, we know Shift Up knows what they are doing with their religion references. Also, I don't know if you have played Red Ash, but the name "Freesia" (which is also the titular song for the character in Red Ash) might have some meaning for Rapi. Its name comes from a flower that symbolizes innocence, trust and friendship.
I also remember the event Red Ash last year that had a lot to do with the themes you mentioned as well.

In the game it’s a large energy blast weapon, but in the comics, it was shown more akin to a heavy machine gun firing small bullet-like energy projectiles
Ether and Mana are alchemical concepts. So Ether was not named after the chemical compound, but the Alchemic concept of Ether.
Therefore, her squad is named after alchemic ideas.
This makes more sense, as they are researchers who, effectively, look for a "Philosopher's Stone" ; solutions to everything

I would suggest taking a deeper look into the visual design as well. Pinpointing which culture or imagery they are trying to pull from/invoke can be of great help to figure out what they were trying to convey with each character.
For example, you've concluded that Moran came from a irl gangster from the US, but looking at her design its clearly inspired from Chinese culture (and most likely the Triad, which is an influential chinese gang). It's good @JundRaptor in the comments was able to pinpoint that she was named after a peony!
Overall though you've done an exellent job and I love the video! If there's a future video you need help on pinpointing fashion history or a design breakdown, I can help as I went to school for it :) I'm sure a lot of other ppl here would be down to help as well!

Dunno how far you are in the story, but the reason Dorothy follows the naming convention of Goddess Squad is because she used to be part of it. Second-in-command in fact.
Her weapon is named Ungrateful Oz, because during the events of OverZone (OZ) she and Goddess squad were barred entry into the Ark after suffering so much in defending it as it was being sealed.
The mouthpiece of the Central Government who denied them entry? Oswald.
After those events she was too distraught and splintered off the surviving members of Goddess Squad (Snow White, Scarlett and Rapunzel who became Squad Pioneer), to form her own paradise (Eden) to spite the Ark, despite her unconsciously desperately wanting to be accepted into the Ark.

It reminds me of an old gacha game called Phantom of the Kill, where all the units' names are derived from gear from myths and legends. Each unit would adopt some aspect of the original wielder that would resonate with an aspect of the unit.

You got me really curious about this, as I hadn't really thought about it much past the obvious until now. I want to add a bit from experience and some light surface level reading online:
part 1:
Anne: Hebrew origins for the name(from Hannah), meaning merciful and often the people with this name in history and religious texts are described as notably kind people. In Christianity there is the saint Anne, mother of virgin Mary, though connection is disputed by several sources. Hannah also became the Latin version Anna which has the meaning "favor" or "grace.". The name Anne is mostly French in nature, whereas Ann was used in English countries. Some notable people with the name include: Anne Frank who wrote a certain very well known diary. This does have some connection, as Anne's Diary in the game is probably the most important object to her. Then there is Anne McLaren who "was a British scientist who was a leading figure in developmental biology. She paved the way for women in science and her work helped lead to human in vitro fertilization (IVF)." The science part can hold some form of connection I think, but mostly I believe there is a strong possibility of there being a connection between Anne from Nikke and Anne Frank.
Yuni: In Korean it's meaning is related to tropes of sweet and happy/clever aspects.(Cute, happy, giggly, and smart.) In Sanskrit it means connection, joining, union and combining. This has implications for her character with Korean being her outward appearance and the Sanskrit terms for her personality; dependent, symbiotic and her extreme connection to Mihara. In Japanese it has similar meanings to the Sanskrit word, though it adds a myriad of other meanings, including abundance, relaxation and open-mindedness. I see less of a correlation here. Here in Scandinavia we have the month of Juni(June) coming from the goddess Juno who is equated to the goddess Hera; Goddess of marriage and love. I think this forms an intended connection with both the Sanskrit word and the goddess and the Nikke characters themes. Juno is also the Goddess of marriage and childbirth so ehrm, huge W for the Yuni lovers if the connection is right?
Mihara: Japanese meaning that has relevance is "beautiful" and "look"(also 3 plains, but she has no relation to plains as she is not flat). Say Mihara in English a few times and it might sound a bit like mire, which would be a bog you sink into (she got bogged good in the story frfr), or could be short for admire which would again correlate it to looking. This is definitely a stretch though.
Also I found a Japanese Idol named Yuki Mihara which probably isn't related in any way but the names aren't too far apart from Yuni and Mihara. Some other meanings in Japanese related to Mihara are: forgiveness, Origin, Sight, three (number) and to meet. I can see some correlation to these and her story. "Mihar is a Muslim boy name and it is an Arabic originated name with multiple meanings. Mihar name meaning is Name of Lord Krishna; Light of and the associated lucky number is 3" - and In Urdu the word Mihar can mean love, affection, friendship, kindness, mercy, pity and sympathy. Mihra is also a girl name in Arabic meaning "light of god". Similarly there is the God in Iran named Mithra (Mehr or Mithras in Roman) who was a of God of justice, light, oaths and the sun. In Rome during the 4th century they had a cult faithful to Mithras. Possible connections but all of this is honestly not too relevant to the character herself, though there might be points of inspiration there.
D: "In ancient Roman religion, Lucina was a title or epithet given to the goddess Juno,[1] and sometimes to Diana,[2] in their roles as goddesses of childbirth who safeguarded the lives of women in labor." Specifically Diana, her alter might have a connection to the last part here; Diana > safeguarding lives of women. Though a stretch; Michael Jackson has a song called dirty Diana and I hope there is a connection there. Princess Diana might have some symbolic connections too if looked into.
Crow: In Nordic mythology crows are symbols of death, and often compared to ravens who represent wisdom owing to Odin having appeared often as a Raven or an old man surrounded by ravens in the mortal realm. She always struck me as clever in her reasoning despite being batshit. Crows are also seen as jealous, and while I'm no expert on this; I remember being told of the crows stealing silverware and jewelry to put in their nest since they are drawn to shiny objects. Probably due to the ancient mythology aspect the hereditary folklore surrounding crows are as I said related to death for the most part, and this has persisted until recently, with some even believing in it till this day. Seeing a crow land on a house or around a person is a sort of sign of their impending death. I've not researched this, it's just based on experience growing up in Norway, so feel free to correct me.
Tove: Is also a pretty normal name in Scandinavia for women. The Finnish author who wrote the Moomins was also named Tove. The meanings are likely attributed to thunder, beauty and Thor from Nordic mythos.
Yulha: "In Korean, Yul (율) can mean "law" or "regulation" (often related to justice or order)"
Mary: With a squad name like Seraphim, the connection to virgin Mary also becomes an important connection I think. (Mother of Jesus) Especially with her maternal qualities. There is also "bloody Mary"; an urban legend about a sort of spirit you summon by saying her name three times in front of the mirror at night only to then get killed or spooked. This could make for a funny little event. Mary, Mary, Mary and then she comes to give you a shot of medicine or some shit. Then there is the queen in England who burned hundreds of people, which is most likely the origin of the bloody Mary spirit to begin with. The Nikke def has a spooky side to her, so the connection is somewhat solid. Rosemary gets its name from Latin and means "dew of the sea" literally. Her summer alt could have some references to this, but I'm not sure. Lastly there is the "Mary Celeste" ship mystery. It was a ship that was found adrift without anyone on it (like how Brook was found pretty much) about a century ago. They could definitely have sprinkled some references to this during the summer event but I can't recall any.
Lilyweiss: There are also a lot of texts that depict Lilith as a demon, or someone who consorts with demons like; in some Jewish texts she is often depicted as a danger to newborn children and women in childbirth, which is why certain amulets would be used to ward her off. This is found in the "Alphabet of Ben-Sira" which also says that she mingled with demons after being banished from Eden, and that she gave birth to a lot of demons herself. In Christianity Lilith is sometimes portrayed and viewed as a demonic entity, or a succubus. I remember "Vampire the Masquerade" lore using her as the sort of mother of demons, and I think she led Cane to becoming the first Vampire IIRC. In modern fiction and occultism she if usually portrayed as a strong female figure representing the anthesis's to patriarchy and a sort of mysterious rebel with a lot of power. I don't think Nikke is far off with that, in taking some inspiration from Lilith apart from the feminism aspects lol.
Harran: Was also a city in what is now Turkey where according to the Bible, it was one of the places where Abraham and his family settled, and it was the place that God called Abraham to continue his journey to Canaan.
Part 2:
Noah: I think the name is wasted on the character lol. In religious texts, personality-wise Noah is almost always depicted as being the model faithful religious person. An interesting exception is that he became a major drunk after the flood in Genesis (very understandable tbf). The only part of his character I could correlate with the Nikke is how steadfast, loyal, faithful and enduring he and the Nikke are in terms of personality. She is the ultimate shield, and thematically this could correlate to Noah being the shield of life on Earth during the flood. There might be more info in her backstory related to this but I can't remember much of it. Ultimately I think the name Noah would be better suited towards someone like Oswald or any of the Nikkes responsible for the defense of the Arc during it's creation. Maybe even Enikk.. Funnily enough "Enoch is described as the great-grandfather of Noah." so Enikk's name is not far off in relations haha. More on that soon.
Oswald, Enikk and Einkk and Gilgamesh(?): After shit talking Noah for a bit for stealing the name of someone who could use it better, I wanted to find out a bit about these side characters names and correlations, so let's see: Oswald, one of my favorite characters after the Red Ash event, who seems to be a really complex character with a lot of importance during the creation of the arc. Not at the top of the ladder but still important. In regards to the events of the Over zone event maybe a fitting name would be something relating to Hermes, being a "conductor of souls into the afterlife." and a "messenger of the gods". Regardless, the name Oswald is seemingly old English and means "divine power/God's power". There was a Oswald of Worcester who worked to fix the corruption with the church and this definitely rings a bell. There was also a Saint Oswald who got martyred into sainthood. Lastly penguin from the batman comics is named Oswald.
As for Einkk and Enikk, they are probably related to the Sumerian god Enki (Ea in Akkadian); God of wisdom, creation and water. Being that is Sumerian is interesting as that is regarded as one of the most ancient cultures, and a lot of the religions of the west seem to stem from these pantheons. Enki also warned Atrahasis who was like their version of Noah (the latter iteration if you will) of a flood that would destroy man-kind. Once again Noah as a name is wasted on that Nikke lol. "Enki’s lore reflects his importance in maintaining both cosmic and human order". Enoch is a name which roughly means dedicated or consecrated, and the person in the old testament with this name was the son of Cain (probably gonna be a name in the future of Nikke huh..) and grandfather of Noah. The book of Enoch is for the most part not regarded as "canon" but holds significance within Christianity and Judaism; describing visions of heaven, conversations with angels and about the "coming judgement". Enoch is considered the same person/prophet they call Idris in Islam, who was also considered to be very wise. Einkk also sounds somewhat similar to the word "enke" which in Norwegian means widow, though there is probably no intended correlation. Enrick is a name in Spanish and Catalan meaning "ruler of the estate" or ruler of an area at least. This does make sense in regards to both Einkk and Enikk. There is also the eunuchs who ehrm... Lost their balls to serve better. Essentially castrated men. I don't see much of a connection between eunuchs and Einkk/Enikk apart from the similar word, but in many cultures they were important figures who "would serve loyally, without the possibility of creating their own legacy" and with a lot of them operating in administrative positions in the background it does draw a connection regardless.. Also there is the character in game of thrones who does have kind of a similar role to Enikk. Also I remember hearing that many boys would be castrated so they would not reach full puberty, allowing them to sing in their "angelic" choir forever.. Though sad, we could force a connection here if my theories about what Enikk and Einkk are is correct, though I'm not caught up with the story and don't think it's fully expanded upon yet anyways. Eni in some Nigerian languages means one or references Yoruba (God) and Ein in German means one. There are a lot of connections to these girls name wise, but I'll drop one last one. Enkidu was a warrior created by gods in the Epic of Gilgamesh who was supposed to oppose Gilgamesh in his tyrannical rule, but later they became great friends. Due to him abandoning his "divine command" he gets cursed by the gods and gets a slow, painful death through illness. Some connotations here include the creation being intentional, learning about humanity, and a theory I have is that Gilgamesh represents either the commander at some point in the story, or a different character we don't know about yet, probably related to the creation of the Ark or Nikkes. I truly think there is a connection to this character and story, especially given how Gilgamesh from the Fate series popularized him and the story within pop-culture, anime and games. Struck by grief due to the death of Enkidu, and then realizing his own mortality, Gilgamesh gets scared and sets out on a journey to acquire immortality; he travels to the edge of the world and meets Utnapishtim, "who recounts the story of the Great Flood, similar to the biblical Noah." Again with the Noah connection.. Shift-up arghh!!! So after getting that piece of info, he also learns of a plant that can grant eternal youth(Nikke connection), which he manages to acquire and lose and has to accept his mortality. This could become a story related to the creation of the ark/Nikke's but like I also mentioned; The commander, who might possibly in his need for strength seek out a way to modify his mortal body so he can better serve the Ark. Or maybe a different character like Rapi or Enikk in her theoretical passing could try to force it on the commander? After accepting his mortality, Gilgamesh dedicates himself and his remaining time to the betterment of his home, Uruk and while now knows his limitations, he also learns to value life and the importance of legacy, in a sense granting him indirect immortality through what he built and the people he had an impact on. If Nikke chooses a direction similar to this I see greatness ahead. Maybe a perfect way to end the inevitable story of the game, and the commander; leading up to a possible sequel??
honestly while writing all the previous paragraphs I forgot how significant the Ark being named what it is could be in regards to important characters, though once again the name Noah is wasted on the Nikke. Unless there is some lore which could be significant related to her? Please tell me there is.
Squad names have a lot of cool meanings too like Aegis squad referencing the Iliad's named shield from ancient Greek mythology, or like you mentioned; Seraph.
Also I'm surprised by the amount of connections to Arabic and middle eastern centered lore, mythos an religion. It's often used in media but perhaps a bit rarer than others.

Perilous Siege members names actually make up the acronym MDK(one member has not made an appearance, but has been referenced to), a nod to the movie Demolition Man, and it means Murder Death Kill, like Extrinsic, they are a black ops squad and work as government assassins, thus they Murder, cause Death and Kill.
Liliweiss is also based off Sleeping Beauty, since as of right now in the story she is a sleeping beauty...go figure. Another thing could be that Sleeping Beauty's name in the fairy tale is Aurora, meaning Dawn, like Liliweiss being the first Nikke was a new Dawn for humanity, but that's just my speculation.
I think there's also chance that Moran could be named after Colonel Sebastian Moran from the Sherlock Holmes novels, if you don't remember who that is he used to be in the military and was considered to be the best marksman, he worked under Moriarty. The only counter to it is that she uses an AR.
Oh and additionally, her name is also derived from a flower much like Sakura and Rosanna (aka Rose). Moran is the short-term for Peony in Korean.

Exia- to be a suffix meaning possession. Irony again as she is a hacker.
Shifty- to move. Her screen is always moving from one scene to the next.
Enikke and einkk- anagrams for. Nikke
Ether & Mana- potential link to potions which heal and regenerate and solve problems. They work for mmr abd solve problems
Mihara- derrives from sanskrit meaning not complete goddess. Irony as her memory gets wiped.
Yuni- to mean tie or bond sadism obviously.
Novel- obvious nod to sherlock.
Rose (scarlet's sister)- a nod to korean tale about two sisters.
