- Acharya Santosh Krishna Biswas Smriti Sansad, under the leadership of Tabla maestro Pandit Swapan Swapan Chaudhuri, had organised a special musical concert in memory of his Guru.
Ustad Ilmas Hussain Khan, one of the most important exponent of the present time Lucknow Gharana of Indian classical music, was invited to perform Tabla in this concert. Sri Pankaj Mishra had accompanied him with Sarengi.
It was a mesmerising musical experience.

The khalifa of locknow played a very very sweet and memoriaing solo
The Khalifa of Lucknow Gharana and the spitting image of what lucknow gharana is expressed by his playing. There are many tabla players but they have forgot their baj and gharana. But ustad ji keeps his style and the dignity by not been fused with modern music and percussions. This is not his climax because I have seen him play far more better. The world now must give this man more chances to perform. He is a walking library and a walking performing stage. Enough of the ones who the world say that they Are famous tablists but now we are tired of hearing the same things from Panjab and farukkhabad now and then. Now its time to change.

Lucknow gharana i.e., style of tabla playing is often called among conneissurers the Poorab ka Darwaza, door of the east as a distinct style from that of the western the Pacchahin style of Punjab gharana
After a long interval I have listen pure Lucknow Gharana. Great Ustad Illmas Bhaia.....You have lot of stock of this Gharana it's few you have produced before us. However , tonal quality of Tabla was very excellent. May God bless you.
Saw Ustadji in Nice, France back in 1994. It was a very intimate set with a wonderful Sarod player. Still remember fondly his stellar command on the Tabla. Thanks for sharing this video.

The dying tradition of Ustad Afaq Hussain Khan sahab....Pandit Anindo-ji used to play it quite often earlier, not anymore. Sad, we wont get to hear such authentic Lucknow gharana fingering anymore. However, it must be honestly opined that Ustad Illmas ji is playing only at his 25%. He is a much much better player than this.

@@insearchofpeace2151 Well How can anyone match his father's talent. Technically Ustad Afaq ji was probably the finest of all times. On that token, even 25% of Afaq-ji's talent would stand out as a remarkable achievement.
