Yeah hot topic nowadays just has various pop culture and anime merch. The website is better to find more goth things, I believe it has a goth section that’s kinda good.
I love Amber, and her enthusiasm for shoes always makes me smiles LOL I think she just took inspiration from whatever 'alternative teens' you see on Instagram these days. The lewk was cute, but not really goth eh?
I think the fact that she loved Hot Topic is evidence enough that it's not a super alternative store. Hell, my great aunt shops there more than I do, granted, I do find some cool stuff there every now and again. I personally love Amber's energy and I'll probably watch more of her videos. I agreed with everything you said during your reaction!
While Hot topic was never a Goth store to begin with, I have to laugh at what you said because it's true. 15 years ago back when Hot Topic had a darker, more alternative look to it (remember when it looked like this? lol - i.pinimg.com/originals/dd/d7/0e/ddd70e509f941e3865bd6fdfa5536f4b.jpg ), you hardly ever saw people who looked like Amber stepping foot in that store, it really was a place meant for Alternative people. Not that "normies" couldn't go inside but it's just that they usually didn't see the need to because it didn't have anything they'd want or be interested in. Then circa 2006-2007 happened and the store started catering more to Pop culture like Anime, cartoons, mainstream music, and internet culture and it was made more digestible for the "normie" crowd while stripping away the layer of Alternative appeal it once had back in the 90s and early 2000s.
I used to shop at Hot Topic in high school and recently went back after years and it’s not the same store at all anymore, it’s like overtaken with Harry Potter, Nightmare before Christmas and mainstream “band” tees
Yeah the hot topics I see are just parasitized by anime and like...idk.....marvel merch??? Star wars????? I don't hate those things AT ALL but like....it feels really watered down and sometimes I admittedly feel uncomfortable in there because some of the people who shop there are very ahem.....stereotypical anime fans. My punk ass got stared at. In a hot topic. By weebs. I do still manage to find some neat stuff there (rlly enjoy some of their patches + pins for my faux leather vest) but. Yeah. I'm sick of weebs staring at me the whole time.
She's so peppy its really cute but also a tad spooky, like how many bodies is she hiding? What's it like getting away with murder? Must be nice bc she's so peppy haha
Yeah Hot Topic exists now mostly to sell Funko pops and Harry Potter merch. That being said they still have some nice gothy pieces and I have quite a few items from them that I wear quite often.
Same. Lol I was just lamenting to my boyfriend the other day about how 20% of my wardrobe is from Hot Topic, effectively making me a fake goth 😂 not to mention I'm 25 now and have zero business in a Hot Topic 😂
@@SeXiMoNkEy95 What? Shopping at Hot Topic doesn't make you a "Fake Goth" . You can shop wherever you want and still be a Goth. The only thing that would make one a fake Goth is someone who claims to be Goth but doesn't listen to Goth music. That's about it really lol. I haven't stepped foot in Hot Topic in like 4 or 5 years now (I'm 29), I used to get my black skinny jeans from there before I found a place that sold them for a cheaper price (seriously, I'm not gonna be spending $35 on a simple pair of skinny jeans LOL).
@@KaiDecadence Idk if you saw my previous comment. I decided that it was needlessly aggressive. What I meant to say is that you're right and I had been joking around when I said I'm not a real goth because I shop at Hot Topic. Thank you for your kindness.
Hot Topic in the 90s was awesome. They had a lot of vinyl clothing as well as romantic vampire gothic type clothing. I got some lovely long velvet dresses there. Now they have a few gothic looking things but not as good.
American about Hot Topic: yes! hot topic used to be more club clothes and t-shirt wall with a small merch section. The merch section was so popular and profitable, they expanded to a second store called 'Boxed Lunch', which I am pretty sure is still associated with HT.
Hot Topic used to be the store my mom turned me away from because it was "too dark and scary" and now I have tons of stuff from there..... So yeah. It has changed.
Honestly I wouldn't blame anyone to call those leather chokers as dog collars... :D It did styled out from a fetish scene, which was a collar, an submissive fetish thing where someone is on the leash, and it merged with choker applications, or so I would guess. And those basic girls still do not know that in shops those are not metal detected to detect weapons, but to scan the bar code of items that didn't got scanned at the checkout.
Oh yeh, I'd love to see a Camden vlog, apparently it's very touristy in comparison to what it was 😭😭😭😭😭 That shop kinda looks like an old hot topic, apparently years ago hot topic was goth, sold Tripp NYC gear ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ OMG, the stuff they bought and tryed on was more pinup / normal, clickbait alert
I hate how much hot topic has changed. Cant even call it goth at the most basic level. All i get there are my gauge earrings. And they are barely good at that.
Oh man this chick again. I will say that it probably was wrong of me to make assumptions about her in the last video you did of hers, I'm sure she's probably a nice girl but anyway, again her video execution (in my opinion) was trash. Hot Topic, even back in the late 90s, early 2000s never really had a section dedicated to Goth, just general Dark Alternative that you could work for any alternative style (including Goth but it was specifically set for it). What Amber was referring to was just "Alternative" section because that's pretty much how Hot Topic is nowadays ever since they put more emphasis on carrying Pop culture things like Anime, comics (DC & MARVEL), and top 40 pop & rap/hip hop music. These people just do not get that Goth has a specific look and it's not just Black clothing with black eyeliner and black eye shadow and occult symbols, it's a very specific look that came from Goth music. Like if I can namedrop someone, there's a person who on social media who goes by the name "Black Widow Sanctuary" (she had an Instagram but seemed to have deleted it) and to me she is a good example of someone who knows the "Goth" look. Compare that to those girls who call themselves Goth on Instagram just for having black dresses and black lipstick on and the difference is very obvious on who is more likely to be into what Goth actually is and that's more or less what I mean by the "Goth" look. It hearkens to the music and that is something "normies" just won't understand unless they look and observe the music that the scene is centered around.
I agree, to a certain extent. I went through a Goth phase in the late 80's to mid 90's and Hot Topics did have a pretty good goth and punk section. If you didn't live in Los Angeles \ NYC or another big city, chances were you didn't have much choices and had to shop at your local mall HT for this lifestyle. Goth in L.A (where I'm from) back then was just a more darker / mysterious side to punk. I remember in 00's people dressing "emo" and calling it Goth or Punk, I was like, no dear.
