I believe the retirement crisis will get even worse. Many struggle to save due to low wages, rising prices, and exorbitant rents. With homeownership becoming unattainable for middle-class Americans, they may not have a home to rely on for retirement either.

Consider buying stocks when the economy is not doing well, like during a recession. It could be a chance to buy them at a lower price and sell later when prices go up. Just keep in mind, this isn't financial advice, but sometimes it's better than keeping a lot of cash.

Accurate asset allocation is crucial. Some use hedging or defensive assets in their portfolio for market downturns. Seeking financial advice is vital. This approach has kept me financially secure for over five years, with a return on investment of nearly $1 million.

SS is in the $1300-$1500 range if historical annual income was modest & you plan on retiring at 62. It’s well over $2K if you wait until 70.

@@EnlightenedRogue I waited till I was 67. I had a great job where I worked weekends alone in a large communications facility. Heck I even used to bring my dog to work sometimes. We had a huge fenced gated yard he could run in. I started maxing out in 1981 when the cut off was about $32,000. I worked in the Alaska Oil Fields then and it was pretty lucrative. We usually hit the max around the middle of the year. We only worked half a year but worked 12+ hours a day at work.

Many wealthy individuals maintain their wealth by adopting frugal spending habits similar to those of the less affluent. They also prioritize continuous investment, whereas some poorer individuals tend to spend extravagantly without focusing on long-term investments, often attempting to impress those who are already wealthy°

Cost of living in any state is strongly dependent on your housing situation. If you own your house free and clear the cost of living is substantially less than if you have a mortgage or rent. How much savings you need is also dependent on your income sources.

So much is wrongfully assumed with these lists. High cost of housing means much less if you have no mortgage. I had an old farmhouse on 80 acresin upstate NY, taxes were about $5K annually. Food costs are no lower here in the South. And remember, if you can't afford to live in Mississippi you can always move to Mexico or Vietnam. And why do I need half a million if my SS Is greater than my annual expenditures?

I guess I planned better than the assumptions in this video. I can live on just my Social Security check. My SS check is above the national average, but not at the maximum. I've been retired for about 5 years, and I've only taken money out of my retirement savings for emergencies, like when the refrigerator died. Dividends and increases in value have kept my savings balance close to what I started with. I don't have any credit card debt or a car payment. My mortgage is mostly taxes and insurance, and the principal is from a remodel we did in 2010. Hubby died 10 years ago, so it's just me. Might have been harder if he was still alive, because he was the spender in our marriage.

My gosh ! You have to be really frugal in your younger years to save that money …no wonder a lot of Americans moved to Asian countries where they can live comfortably with only their SS pension..

This is skewed. It assumes you get less that 20k of social security a year. My wife is already retired and collects more than that. Also with a spouse, it’s easy to see collecting 50-60k a year in social security.

What is the life expectancy you are basing these numbers on? If someone lives to 95 they’re going to need a whole lot more money than someone who dies at 72.

This is extremely simplistic and deceptive because it is based on living on social security and savings.
We have about 1 million in savings and about $850,000 in home equity as well as stock accounts and cash accounts of about $75,000. However, that’s not relevant because we earn enough in retirement through pension and social security in an amount above that needed for our home state with retirement income of $240,000 for this year. As such, why would I need that much in my savings???? We do not. This post assumes living off nothing but savings and that’s incredibly deceptive. What should be said is you need an income if--- PLUS savings of --- with the savings needed going down as income goes up. Otherwise this video is meaningless. I’ve been a banking lawyer for 35 years and this video needs to take ALL factors in account.

Does not give the age of retirement, 62? 67? 70? There’s a big difference between needing $1 mil in your 60’s as opposed to the same net worth in your 70’s.
