Beware of these extremely vague references to retire on "as little as $2000 a month". I know for a fact that Malaysia requires a significant cash deposit in to one of their banks in addition to the monthly income requirement to get a Visa. So that raises the price to move there significantly and probably should have been at least mentioned. So I'm wondering what other extremely relevant information about the other countries was left out? This video is not much more than clickbait.

I have been in Ecuador since late December. I have enjoyed Quito, Otavalo (day trip to cotacachi), Banos, Cuenca, and now Loja. Every city has been distinct, coupled with the mountain weather, very pleasant for my daily strolls.
@@exploringdimensions4all853 after Loja, I did visit Vilcabamba. It is a beautiful place, but felt too warm relative to the other cities I had explored. I’m now in Mindo which is beautiful as well, and so tiny. Mindo feels like the setting for the film 🎥 Jurassic Park.
I'm a bit frustrated with my IL membership. For the past 2 years I have paid for the membership, but it seems every email article has a run-on of potential places to retire for less, but they do not tell you directly the name of the country or, even better, cities. Then after a lengthy read they redirect you to something else to pay for, such as a workshop or conference. I am not wealthy enough to have a house in the US and have a house in another country. At this point I could watch random UA-cam videos and get more direct information. Please elaborate with more information on Visas and financial requirements for each country and please name them in the email articles. Also, specific regions or towns would help be immensely helpful!

I find it interesting that Americans living in America loves to put an emphasis on safety when it comes to other countries considering where the US ranks in the global peace index.
I am from america and the attitude of the americans is appalling to me to act like we are superior to eveyone else in this world. So I understand you my sensible friend. We have more killings than most nations and the only nations to have mass shottings of churces and schools. :(
Most Americans don't think their home regions are unsafe...even if they are objectively unsafe relative to other regions or countries. Other countries typically don't have the violent crime and gun violence we have, for example.
That's the point - we know it's bad and we want something different. I don't think any of us are naive enough to think anywhere is perfect. I just think safety is a consideration no matter where you come from or where you're going. No one wants to live somewhere where it is the norm to be afraid to go to the market for fear of being murdered.
The safety references people make are often based on a handful of news stories, not statistical data. For example, all the suggestions that Colombia must be dangerous. Any place is dangerous if you put yourself in sketchy situations... Like visiting bars alone, picking up strangers, following them to parts unknown.

I don't think your list takes into account the most important aspects for those who are retired and would like to live long term somewhere other than the US. Hint - taxes are most important for those on a budget (with healthcare and safety coming in 2nd and 3rd). Most normal people can't afford to be taxed in Portugal so that should NOT be rated as high as it is on your list. I would love to move to Portugal but can't afford the taxes.
Ps. If you can't afford to live somewhere, no other considerations matter...not health, not safety, not visa friendliness, not education/schools, not transportation, etc

Some of this is out of date. Especially Spain and Portugal which have killed a lot of the visa options. And bear in mind Spain is one of the highest tax countries in the EU. Whilst Portugal has had an explosion in real estate prices which have created a lot of civil protest. The government has no back tracked on its NHR status etc.

For reference currently you have to deposit over $100,000 USD to get residency. For people looking to spend only $2400 USD/month that is a significant barrier. "MM2H required applicants to have a monthly income of at least 40,000 Malaysian ringgit ($8,662) - up from 10,000 ringgit ($2,165) previously - pricing most applicants, especially retirees, out of consideration. In the two years following the change, the programme saw applications decline by 90 percent. Malaysia has offered foreigners the chance to live in the country under the Malaysia My Second Home programme since 2002 [Fazry Ismail/EPA] The changes announced by Tourism Minister Tiong King Sing on December 13 appear to make MM2H a more realistic option for the average expat. Under the revised programme, the visa will be open to applicants aged at least 30, compared with 35 previously. Whereas MM2H eligibility was previously based on a fixed deposit of 1 million ringgit ($216,567), applicants will now have the choice of opting for a fixed deposit of 500,000 ringgit ($108,283), 2 million ringgit ($433,135) or 5 million ringgit ($1,082,837) based on three tiers - Silver, Gold and Platinum. The Silver and Gold tiers offer five-year and 15-year residency, while the Platinum tier touts eligibility for permanent residency - a difficult status to achieve in Malaysia. MM2H visa holders will be required to spend a minimum of 60 days in the country, compared with 90 previously - a condition that may also be fulfilled by dependents such as a spouse or children. “The objective is to simplify the often-criticised MM2H application procedures by introducing more flexibility and clarity,” Tiong said in a statement, adding that the revisions announced so far were preliminary and the final eligibility requirements would be announced in stages. Tiong’s announcement did not refer to any income or asset requirements or state a precise implementation date for the changes."

I think the retirement crisis will get even worse. A lot of people can’t save because of low paying jobs, inflation, and insane rental rates. And now that home ownership is out of reach for middle class Americans, they won’t have a house to retire with either.

I've lived in Mexico for 4 years now and feel very safe here in the village of Ajijic. Please keep in mind that the gangs and kidnappings occur in specific and isolated places and are caused by the demand for narcotics in the US
15 years in Colombia and I have been over every inch and never even had a single argument. Been to 70 countries and Colombia is the best. kilo of Avocado and kilo of tomatoes cost me 3.50 USD.

All very attractive destination - for me with an EU passport the south of Spain near Portugal is my choice. Everybody seems a little more critical about Italy and so am I despite having an Italian passport. Living now in Switzerland and moving to southern Italy I would get a very good flat tax rate of 7% for 9 years. I wonder why Italy didn‘t make it in your top 10 destinations.

Wish there had been a more upfront discussion of safety in some of these locations. Especially, S. America and Mexico. You did not even mention the Mexican cartels and widespread violent crime like robberies, kidnapping, etc. Just look at the US Govt. Travel advisories.
A lot of that is within a hundred miles of the border. Elsewhere like the Mexican riviera and elsewhere is way safer then New York, San Francisco, Chicago etc

With a monthly budget of 2300 USD you should be able to have a pleasant live in 95% of all countries worldwide. Maybe for Switzerland, Monaco, Belgium, UAEs it won't be sufficient.
@@setha360 Thailand also has a more affordable retirement visa. It's around $100 for the visa and you just need $1800 in monthly income from Social Security or a pension. It's renewable every year.
This is the deal for me. I have lived in this Washington DC area for 20 years and have a nice house here: until a couple years ago. The water pipes on all floors burst while I was on a trip. I came home to garbage and mice everywhere so needed a room quickly while still working. Had to let the house go on sale. One of my coworkers, a lovely Filipina, (who makes wonderful pastries) said I should not think about retiring in the PI. She visits her hometown often and mentioned I should call a local hotel: Holiday Inn Express for a room. Stayed in the room for a couple months that became years after retiring, Still there now. I could have bought another house but would have sold the original had I seen this before. The monthly rate is covered by my pension payments and includes lots of benefits plus wireless connection. The staff have been absolutely great and this gives total freedom in making plans and following actions. Regards
Perhaps this is an old list. Ecuador is wrenched in political turmoil. Advised not to even consider driving in Mexico at night. Ecuador and Mexico are now rationing electricity. Would subscribe if countries where life on less than $2100/mo (SSI) are ranked by safety and stability.

Nice video. It is very important people do their research carefully before even thinking going to live on some of these countries. Yes, Colombia is beautiful, full of diversity, nice condo apartments for less than $300K in Medellin, good health system...but....but....it is quite dangerous. And am not talking about some south Chicago neighbors where you Know personal insecurity is high; wherever you go in Medellin, Cartagena or any major city you will face high personal insecurity. Infrastructure also is not up-to-par to retire people, with really bad roads and sidewalks. Anyhow, do your research
Colombia is a no-no. I am appalled that it is even being recommended. Lots of foreigners being murdered there. Same with Ecuador. Just listen to the news and read the history guys. Your life is more valuable than a low cost of living.

Thailand 🇹🇭 is the best. Low cost of living. Good low cost medical care. Beautiful beaches. Top tourist destinations Krabi, Phuket, HuaHin, ChiangMai, Bangkok. Good infrastructure and transportation. Fee, no visa for 60 days then Retirement visa. Good low cost housing. Very safe country, it's Travel hub for Asia. Retirement visa proof income $1800 month/or $22k/year, $100/month full medical insurance. $400 housing, $ 250 food.
I am Canadian and I retired last year. I live on the East Coast and the winters are harsh, summer only lasts about 2 months and the sun is not guaranteed. I have planned on relocating since before covid. My Mother was Italian and I spent a lot of time in Italy. I have been to Greece, and I love it. France not so much. I have looked at Croatia, and it looks nice. I just don't know where I want to be. Last year I was determined to live in Italy. I am Solo and I travel Solo, so I like somewhere safe. Also, a big consideration is the Canadian dollar value to the Euro, I definitely will take a loss. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Colombia should be the top choice. aAlso having spent 3 months in Florianopolis and having been to all the other countries on the list that island should be 1 or 2.
I am interested in preserving Capital. I currently have a pension of just over $3,000 with Full Social Security in 3 years or so. My wife wants grocery with a fair amount of US food but she actually likes tropical fruits too, but she wants a large English Speaking Expat Community and good healthcare with a pool she can use and a place to work out too. I have a fair amount saved too.

What are the income requirements for non EU persons/couples for the Euro countries on the list? Just because it’s affordable doesn’t mean they will let you live there.
2300$ you are rich in Turkiye in the middle east. You get a biiig appartment on the beach like over 120m2 you have safety good products clean and amazing food. Europe is expensive in comparison but in Turkiye you can live a life with european standarda although its in the middle east. With 1500 dollars you pay 500 dollar for rent and with remaining 1000 dollar you can eat everyday in a restaurant for 2 persons lol and still you will have money for shopping
I'm surprised by some of these choices because they are NOT safe! This is the current US State Dept travel advisory for Colombia: "Country Summary: Violent crime, such as homicide, assault, and armed robbery, is widespread. Organized criminal activities, such as extortion, robbery, and kidnapping, are common in some areas. Terrorist groups and criminal organizations continue operating and carrying out attacks in Colombia. Jan 2, 2024" US Embassy for Mexico warnings: "Crime: Crime, including violent crime, can occur anywhere in Mexico, including in popular tourist destinations. Travelers should maintain a high level of situational awareness, avoid areas where illicit activities occur, and promptly depart from potentially dangerous situations. Feb 26, 2024" Similar warnings exist for Malaysia and Ecuador. There's a reason the cost of living is low in these places. IL is a great publication, but I wish that you wouldn't gloss over safety as you often do.
I'd correct these all but the corrections are too numerous to begin to list. I've looked into all the Central and South American options and they are flat out dangerous at best. The vagaries in this are stunning. Nothing about actual costs, limited protections, outright lies about medical care and ZERO mention of Visa Requirements. If you are White, Straight, Married, Upper Middle class and willing to live in the highest priced areas this list is perfect for you.

Lol southamerica is not safe. Turkiye has a high HDI Rate and cheap. Dollar and Euro gain in value more and more. You can live there good with 1000 dollars a month and you live in luxury with 1500 dollars a month comparable to a live with 15000 dollars income in US
France sounds wonderful and I love the various cultures of the different areas, but I don't think my Texas tongue would ever be good at pronouncing French. My wife would be even worse. But I must admit, the thought of living in southern France seems very appealing to me. Perhaps in the Auvergne.
Sure is up to what is important to whoever it is that is deciding ? These choices appear to ignore any language barriers that would obviously exist for many ! As an American I am completely uncomfortable with all of these countries requiring Spanish and would feel like a fish out of water ! This seems to limit my choices for a comfortable desirable relaxed enjoyable and cheap retirement destination. ( ? ) -- My own research reveals Malaysia as an English speaking destination potentially with a somewhat low cost of living. -- The Philippines too potentially in certain areas could provide the comfort and affordable living. -- Then Cambodia is a stunning surprise as a very cheap living English speaking wonderful friendly Khmer culture destination also. -- The choices do appear to be fewer and more searching is likely required.

You clearly haven’t really done your research if you think that Penang is a good beach destination. It may have beaches but you can’t swim on them because of toxic jellyfish.
Don't know about other Latin American countries, but there is an issue with crime in Colombia even in the best areas. As for Mexico, I've never had a problem, but the citizens don't trust the police force related to corruption so what does that tell you? As a tourist, you will seldom have a problem with crime, but when you do, it can be a PROBLEM.

Nobody really speaks English there and it's hard to find an English speaking doctor (as an example). That's my experience at least. In Portugal a lot of people speak English, which really helps.

Please do your homework and do not rely on any vlog. Safety is the most important factor. I am wary of almost all Latin American countries like Columbia.
We agree that safety is a very important factor. Our index is informed by hundreds of opinions and real-life experiences. Our sources are living in the places where they’re gathering their intelligence. And we trust their judgment. Our focus is on the destinations within those countries that make sense. For instance, Roatán is the only place in Honduras we would consider, while in Mexico, there are easily a half-a-dozen hotspots we’ve homed in on.
Colombia. I have been traveling to Colombia for about 30 yrs without so much as having an argument with anyone, let alone feeling unsafe. Don’t rely on the news and hearsay to formulate your opinions of foreign countries. Costa Rica is a nice destination but not affordable. Lots of foreigners have moved there pushing the cost of living almost as high as many high-priced US cities like Miami where I live. I have also lived in 9 different European countries. My pick would be France or Spain and that is because I love great food.
The images are great. The video should have had more info on each country, its way too short for 10 places. Should have been 30 mins long at least. The voiceover needs to be improved a lot. While place on the list is validated for these top 10 as many are on other lists, there is a pretty strong Western bias. 9/10 of these countries are fundamentally part of "Western (Judeo / Christian) Civilisation" and the remaining one (only one in Asia) is Malaysia where it's long history as a British colony makes it pretty comfortable for Western people. Folks, nothing wrong with Western Civ or any of these countries but I cannot imagine a top ten retirement list without Thailand ! One other knock on this vid is it talks about 8 assessment categories, but then goes very lite on linking assessment methodology with results. A BIG consideration for retirees after obvious things like CoL, safety, health care / infrastructure is ease / cost of retiree visa options. Lots of innovation in this category as the approach of the SEAsian countries is to attract long-term residents / retirees but not offer CBI (which is very diff than a Portugal, Panama, etc)

I feel your pain mate, as a fellow retiree, I’d suggest you look into passive index fund investing and learn some more. Beware of these extremely vague references to retire on "as little as $2000 a month". I know for a fact that Malaysia requires a significant cash deposit in to one of their banks in addition to the monthly income requirement to get a Visa. So that raises the price to move there significantly and probably should have been at least mentioned. So I'm wondering what other extremely relevant information about the other countries was left out? This video is not much more than clickbait.

I'm a bit frustrated with my IL membership. For the past 2 years I have paid for the membership, but it seems every email article has a run-on of potential places to retire for less, but they do not tell you directly the name of the country or, even better, cities. Then after a lengthy read they redirect you to something else to pay for, such as a workshop or conference. I am not wealthy enough to have a house in the US and have a house in another country. At this point I could watch random UA-cam videos and get more direct information. Please elaborate with more information on Visas and financial requirements for each country and please name them in the email articles. Also, specific regions or towns would help be immensely helpful!

I am from america and the attitude of the americans is appalling to me to act like we are superior to eveyone else in this world. So I understand you my sensible friend. We have more killings than most nations and the only nations to have mass shottings of churces and schools. :(
Most Americans don't think their home regions are unsafe...even if they are objectively unsafe relative to other regions or countries. Other countries typically don't have the violent crime and gun violence we have, for example.
That's the point - we know it's bad and we want something different. I don't think any of us are naive enough to think anywhere is perfect. I just think safety is a consideration no matter where you come from or where you're going. No one wants to live somewhere where it is the norm to be afraid to go to the market for fear of being murdered.
The safety references people make are often based on a handful of news stories, not statistical data. For example, all the suggestions that Colombia must be dangerous. Any place is dangerous if you put yourself in sketchy situations... Like visiting bars alone, picking up strangers, following them to parts unknown.

I don't think your list takes into account the most important aspects for those who are retired and would like to live long term somewhere other than the US. Hint - taxes are most important for those on a budget (with healthcare and safety coming in 2nd and 3rd). Most normal people can't afford to be taxed in Portugal so that should NOT be rated as high as it is on your list. I would love to move to Portugal but can't afford the taxes.
Ps. If you can't afford to live somewhere, no other considerations matter...not health, not safety, not visa friendliness, not education/schools, not transportation, etc

The big problem here is the requirements on each of these countries to qualify for either a temp or permanent residencia card.
The cost for Residency visa, Thailand elite visa 20k. Philippines if US veteran 1200$ in bank, 1800$ for retirement visa, you can also extend tourist visa up to 3 years.

Some of this is out of date. Especially Spain and Portugal which have killed a lot of the visa options. And bear in mind Spain is one of the highest tax countries in the EU. Whilst Portugal has had an explosion in real estate prices which have created a lot of civil protest. The government has no back tracked on its NHR status etc.

For reference currently you have to deposit over $100,000 USD to get residency. For people looking to spend only $2400 USD/month that is a significant barrier. "MM2H required applicants to have a monthly income of at least 40,000 Malaysian ringgit ($8,662) - up from 10,000 ringgit ($2,165) previously - pricing most applicants, especially retirees, out of consideration.
In the two years following the change, the programme saw applications decline by 90 percent.

The changes announced by Tourism Minister Tiong King Sing on December 13 appear to make MM2H a more realistic option for the average expat.
Under the revised programme, the visa will be open to applicants aged at least 30, compared with 35 previously.
Whereas MM2H eligibility was previously based on a fixed deposit of 1 million ringgit ($216,567), applicants will now have the choice of opting for a fixed deposit of 500,000 ringgit ($108,283), 2 million ringgit ($433,135) or 5 million ringgit ($1,082,837) based on three tiers - Silver, Gold and Platinum.
The Silver and Gold tiers offer five-year and 15-year residency, while the Platinum tier touts eligibility for permanent residency - a difficult status to achieve in Malaysia.
MM2H visa holders will be required to spend a minimum of 60 days in the country, compared with 90 previously - a condition that may also be fulfilled by dependents such as a spouse or children.
“The objective is to simplify the often-criticised MM2H application procedures by introducing more flexibility and clarity,” Tiong said in a statement, adding that the revisions announced so far were preliminary and the final eligibility requirements would be announced in stages.
Tiong’s announcement did not refer to any income or asset requirements or state a precise implementation date for the changes."

I've lived in Mexico for 4 years now and feel very safe here in the village of Ajijic. Please keep in mind that the gangs and kidnappings occur in specific and isolated places and are caused by the demand for narcotics in the US

Ecuador is run by the cartel gangs reason why I left. The safest city is Cuenca up in the mountains and it’s not warm at all.
All very attractive destination - for me with an EU passport the south of Spain near Portugal is my choice. Everybody seems a little more critical about Italy and so am I despite having an Italian passport. Living now in Switzerland and moving to southern Italy I would get a very good flat tax rate of 7% for 9 years. I wonder why Italy didn‘t make it in your top 10 destinations.

@@setha360 Thailand also has a more affordable retirement visa. It's around $100 for the visa and you just need $1800 in monthly income from Social Security or a pension. It's renewable every year.
This is the deal for me. I have lived in this Washington DC area for 20 years and have a nice house here: until a couple years ago. The water pipes on all floors burst while I was on a trip. I came home to garbage and mice everywhere so needed a room quickly while still working. Had to let the house go on sale.
One of my coworkers, a lovely Filipina, (who makes wonderful pastries) said I should not think about retiring in the PI. She visits her hometown often and mentioned I should call a local hotel: Holiday Inn Express for a room. Stayed in the room for a couple months that became years after retiring, Still there now. I could have bought another house but would have sold the original had I seen this before. The monthly rate is covered by my pension payments and includes lots of benefits plus wireless connection.
The staff have been absolutely great and this gives total freedom in making plans and following actions.

Perhaps this is an old list. Ecuador is wrenched in political turmoil. Advised not to even consider driving in Mexico at night. Ecuador and Mexico are now rationing electricity. Would subscribe if countries where life on less than $2100/mo (SSI) are ranked by safety and stability.

It is very important people do their research carefully before even thinking going to live on some of these countries. Yes, Colombia is beautiful, full of diversity, nice condo apartments for less than $300K in Medellin, good health system...but....but....it is quite dangerous. And am not talking about some south Chicago neighbors where you Know personal insecurity is high; wherever you go in Medellin, Cartagena or any major city you will face high personal insecurity. Infrastructure also is not up-to-par to retire people, with really bad roads and sidewalks. Anyhow, do your research

Thailand 🇹🇭 is the best. Low cost of living. Good low cost medical care. Beautiful beaches. Top tourist destinations Krabi, Phuket, HuaHin, ChiangMai, Bangkok. Good infrastructure and transportation. Fee, no visa for 60 days then Retirement visa. Good low cost housing. Very safe country, it's Travel hub for Asia.

I am Canadian and I retired last year. I live on the East Coast and the winters are harsh, summer only lasts about 2 months and the sun is not guaranteed. I have planned on relocating since before covid. My Mother was Italian and I spent a lot of time in Italy. I have been to Greece, and I love it. France not so much. I have looked at Croatia, and it looks nice. I just don't know where I want to be. Last year I was determined to live in Italy. I am Solo and I travel Solo, so I like somewhere safe. Also, a big consideration is the Canadian dollar value to the Euro, I definitely will take a loss. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I am interested in preserving Capital. I currently have a pension of just over $3,000 with Full Social Security in 3 years or so. My wife wants grocery with a fair amount of US food but she actually likes tropical fruits too, but she wants a large English Speaking Expat Community and good healthcare with a pool she can use and a place to work out too. 2300$ you are rich in Turkiye in the middle east. You get a biiig appartment on the beach like over 120m2 you have safety good products clean and amazing food. Europe is expensive in comparison but in Turkiye you can live a life with european standarda although its in the middle east. With 1500 dollars you pay 500 dollar for rent and with remaining 1000 dollar you can eat everyday in a restaurant for 2 persons lol and still you will have money for shopping
I'm surprised by some of these choices because they are NOT safe! This is the current US State Dept travel advisory for Colombia: "Country Summary: Violent crime, such as homicide, assault, and armed robbery, is widespread. Organized criminal activities, such as extortion, robbery, and kidnapping, are common in some areas. Terrorist groups and criminal organizations continue operating and carrying out attacks in Colombia. Jan 2, 2024" US Embassy for Mexico warnings: "Crime: Crime, including violent crime, can occur anywhere in Mexico, including in popular tourist destinations. Travelers should maintain a high level of situational awareness, avoid areas where illicit activities occur, and promptly depart from potentially dangerous situations. Feb 26, 2024" Similar warnings exist for Malaysia and Ecuador. There's a reason the cost of living is low in these places. IL is a great publication, but I wish that you wouldn't gloss over safety as you often do.

I'd correct these all but the corrections are too numerous to begin to list. I've looked into all the Central and South American options and they are flat out dangerous at best. The vagaries in this are stunning. Nothing about actual costs, limited protections, outright lies about medical care and ZERO mention of Visa Requirements.
If you are White, Straight, Married, Upper Middle class and willing to live in the highest priced areas this list is perfect for you.
Have you not done your homework on the safety issues going on in Ecuador in the last couple of years? Makes it hard to watch the whole video knowing you haven't taken this into consideration or even mentioned it.

Lol southamerica is not safe. Turkiye has a high HDI Rate and cheap. Dollar and Euro gain in value more and more. You can live there good with 1000 dollars a month and you live in luxury with 1500 dollars a month comparable to a live with 15000 dollars income in US
France sounds wonderful and I love the various cultures of the different areas, but I don't think my Texas tongue would ever be good at pronouncing French. My wife would be even worse. But I must admit, the thought of living in southern France seems very appealing to me. Perhaps in the Auvergne.

Sure is up to what is important to whoever it is that is deciding ? These choices appear to ignore any language barriers that would obviously exist for many ! As an American I am completely uncomfortable with all of these countries requiring Spanish and would feel like a fish out of water ! This seems to limit my choices for a comfortable desirable relaxed enjoyable and cheap retirement destination. ( ? ) -- My own research reveals Malaysia as an English speaking destination potentially with a somewhat low cost of living. -- The Philippines too potentially in certain areas could provide the comfort and affordable living. -- Then Cambodia is a stunning surprise as a very cheap living English speaking wonderful friendly Khmer culture destination also. -- The choices do appear to be fewer and more searching is likely required.
There is usually a fair amount of English in the larger cities/tourist spots.
Learn Spanish. It's not that hard.

Don't know about other Latin American countries, but there is an issue with crime in Colombia even in the best areas. As for Mexico, I've never had a problem, but the citizens don't trust the police force related to corruption so what does that tell you? As a tourist, you will seldom have a problem with crime, but when you do, it can be a PROBLEM.
You have to research that information on your own. They are avoiding the facts.

Visited Porto and Lisbon (Lisboa) and I'll take France, Italy, and Spain over Portugal, but it all depends on what you are looking for in retirement.

Nobody really speaks English there and it's hard to find an English speaking doctor (as an example). That's my experience at least. In Portugal a lot of people speak English, which really helps.

Please do your homework and do not rely on any vlog. Safety is the most important factor. I am wary of almost all Latin American countries like Columbia.

Our sources are living in the places where they’re gathering their intelligence. And we trust their judgment. Our focus is on the destinations within those countries that make sense. For instance, Roatán is the only place in Honduras we would consider, while in Mexico, there are easily a half-a-dozen hotspots we’ve homed in on.
Colombia. I have been traveling to Colombia for about 30 yrs without so much as having an argument with anyone, let alone feeling unsafe. Don’t rely on the news and hearsay to formulate your opinions of foreign countries. Costa Rica is a nice destination but not affordable. Lots of foreigners have moved there pushing the cost of living almost as high as many high-priced US cities like Miami where I live. I have also lived in 9 different European countries. My pick would be France or Spain and that is because I love great food.

You’re not safe anywhere, spend all you want at home, you can’t take it with you.
While place on the list is validated for these top 10 as many are on other lists, there is a pretty strong Western bias. 9/10 of these countries are fundamentally part of "Western (Judeo / Christian) Civilisation" and the remaining one (only one in Asia) is Malaysia where it's long history as a British colony makes it pretty comfortable for Western people. Folks, nothing wrong with Western Civ or any of these countries but I cannot imagine a top ten retirement list without Thailand !
One other knock on this vid is it talks about 8 assessment categories, but then goes very lite on linking assessment methodology with results. A BIG consideration for retirees after obvious things like CoL, safety, health care / infrastructure is ease / cost of retiree visa options. Lots of innovation in this category as the approach of the SEAsian countries is to attract long-term residents / retirees but not offer CBI (which is very diff than a Portugal, Panama, etc)
