- Highlighting chord changes in a song is a great way to create excitement, build and release tension, and add your own personal take on blues and jazz standards. In this video I teach you a lick to take you from the I Chord to the IV Chord in a twelve bar blues chord progression using open strings, hammer-ons, and pull-offs.

Killer!!!!
Wow, what a wonderful explanation of this strategy!
I've always loved that lick and how you ornament it. Awesome!!!
Thanks, dude! The open string idea is something I enjoy very much. In part because my alternate picking isn't quite as fast as I'd like. Gotta use what ya got!! ;)
This is great! I would love to see more of this (as a novice player I'm looking for all the help I can get)!
Glad you enjoyed this one Hunter. I've got a Song of the Week video out tomorrow, and then the next lesson will be out Tuesday Nov. 3. This one focuses on what to play over (or during) the four chord so ot syncs nicely with this lesson. Cheers!
Digging these lessons, thank you
The split camera is awesome too
Great stuff as always my friend. Miss seeing you play live. BTW, how did you get Johnny Carson's old curtain as your backdrop? 😄
Thank you Orq, Perfect size lesson that I can use. Can you tell us a bit about the Tele the P90 and it looks like a Joe Barden ?in the bridge maybe. Cheers, Stay well down thereI miss the Fort Worth area hope you’re getting some gigs down there somewhere I’d be up front All eyes and ears. Buddy Whittington usually comes up here once a year or twice a year But he says Pickens are slim
Thanks, Jimmy! Yeah we haven't been doing too much in the way of gigs since March. Crazy world. The Tele is an All Parts frankenstein. And that neck pick up is rad. It's an early 70's Gibson P90. (The one with the embossed logo on the pick up cover.) Same era as my gold top which is a '71. It's maybe a '73 I think. Can't exactly remember. So smooth with that Tele. Really round, but clear and punchy when you give it the gas. Anyhow, thanks so much for watching, and stay tuned form ore. These videos are really fun to make, so I'll definitely be doing a bunch of 'em. Cheers!
