- Chino HIlls CA, Jun 1 2013 - Some people keep on giving.
Famous movie star Steve McQueen was once a troubled youngster. He was taken in by an old local organization with an interest in putting kids that are on the wrong path in life onto the right road to success. The Boys Republic has been helping steer onto that road since 1907. Steve gave back to the Boys Republic when he made it big. A voice gone too soon, his name lends a hand today to fundraising for Boys Republic.
The group's biggest event of the year is the Steve McQueen Car and Motorcycle Show. Now in the 6th year in 2013, the show has become very popular and helps raise hundreds of thousands of dollars that goes straight to the Boys. The Friends of Steve McQueen put on a great show - very well organized and synchronized with the message and Boys new skill sets. It must be a great place to work - many of the staff giving 15 and 30 years, including Chris Burns - Executive Director.
The school track makes a fine pitch for the car display - the baseball field is needed for overflow. This year the theme was "The Great Escape" - complete with a live re-enactment from 1st Composite Group. Anytime you can see 350 of the finest examples of cars money can buy in one spot, it's a great kicker to be giving to a good cause.
There was a lot of giving - from Rock Wall Wine Company sponsoring the tasting event to the wall of vendor tents, everyone was getting for their giving. Supporters such as car show Co-Chairman Ron Harris are truly passionate about their ability and happiness to contribute, and it was a common byline among the group. Guaranteed the same folks will be here again next year - may as well circle June 7 2014 now.
